Re: OT: Jason Taylor expected to demand a trade @ 11:30am Press conference (6/1)

Parcells is not as stupid as his predecessor. Taylor to the Chargers.

Actually, it's quite the opposite: it would be a brilliant move by Parcells to trade Taylor to the Pats. It hurts us more in the longrun to give up a 2009 2nd for a guy who we would only get 2008 production out of (assuming he actually does retire).

Parcells knows the 2008 Dolphins will not contend with the 2008 Pats. So what difference does it make if we have Taylor?

But if Taylor is to retire, it hurts the Pats more and helps the Fish to have one of our 2nd round picks that will potentially give a team returns for multiple years. vs. 2008 Jason Taylor.

Dude... NOBODY is giving Miami a 2nd rounder for Taylor, let alone the Pats.

Re: OT: Jason Taylor expected to demand a trade @ 11:30am Press conference (6/1)

Except that lessens his value, which means it gives him more leverage.

So how goes that increase Miami's incentive to let him go?

Re: OT: Jason Taylor expected to demand a trade @ 11:30am Press conference (6/1)

Trading a third round pick for someone who can directly lead to a championship this year while adding great depth to a place we can still use it (Yes people, our linebacker corp can still use it...) would be worth it for me...

If the season ends with a championship and Taylor being a huge contributer, then the 1 year salary and a 3nd round pick would be fine.

That being said, I still just can't see Parcells letting him come here. I'd be thrilled though.

Re: OT: Jason Taylor expected to demand a trade @ 11:30am Press conference (6/1)

Taylor isn't going to fetch the Dolphins a 2nd round pick. He's 33 years old IIRC. Maybe there's a stupid GM out there who'd do that, but a 2nd is too high for such an old player. He might get a 3rd, since the teams trading would be contenders, and thus drafting later in the round. As much as I'd love to see him here in NE, I just can't see BP sending him here.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

so what did he say?

Re: OT: Jason Taylor expected to demand a trade @ 11:30am Press conference (6/1)

well that was anti-climatic

Re: OT: Jason Taylor expected to demand a trade @ 11:30am Press conference (6/1)

giants make the most sense if strahan's really retiring

dallas makes less sense , they play a 3-4 , JT's new to the 3-4

giants really is the perfect fit

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

so what did he say?

I was about to ask the same question.

Never mind, I just read the link from above.

Pesonally I think it is all a pile of crap. Taylor will be back in a Fins uniform come training camp. Smoke, no fire.

Um, the Patriots are a 3-4 team like the Chargers. On the Patriots I could see him being an OLB. I assume the same in SD.

They have Merriman and Phillips both guys about 25 or 26 YO To pay Taylor more than both of them does not make any sense. On the pats he would rotate with a 32YO Vrabel and 31 YO Thomas, and i am not saying that the Pats are a likely landing spot.

This should be a lesson for everyone.....NEVER TRUST A PAPER WITH THE WORD HERALD IN THE TITLE.

Miami's scoop on what JT was going to say was about as flawed as the work of Tomasse.

Not even close. Apparently some of you neither know how this end of the business works or how to read between the lines. Back when Brady was negotiating his extension and there seemed to be a hangup (they apparently thought he'd be fine with agreeing to a four tier bonus in addition to his customary home town discount...) he used Tom Curren to get his message to this FO that he was becoming annoyed. Two weeks later they got the deal done on terms Tommy could live with.

Taylor gets his message out through a reporter at the Miami Herald, just like Tuna got his out through a rookie HC. Only Jason then softens his message in a personal PC so he doesn't get slammed. After playing his entire career for Miami, Taylor wants a shot at a ring that ain't happening in 2008 in Miami. Everyone knows the end game, they just have different interim goals. Taylor doesn't want to damage his standing with the people he played in front of for 11 years or the broader based NFL fan base that will allow him to have a career beyond football. But he wants to move on in a timely manner. Tuna wants to squeeze more out of some potential trading partner than Taylor is worth, and he doesn't care if it takes well into August as long as he can alienate the player sufficiently so he won't show up and risk injury, therefore the process is starting to unravel.

He'd have been traded before the draft if Bill wasn't such a stubborn old geezer.
This is also something of a power move for him - a chance to set the don't mess with Bill tone and to slap Huiezenga down for agreeing before he even made the coaching change that Taylor deserved to finish his career with a franchise that had a shot at winning a ring. Huiezenga also promised Tuna that he would not sell controlling interest in the team during the length of his contract. Then a month later he sold 50% interest to a new owner who expects to take majority control soon. This really annoyed the man who never honors his contracts. There is no honor among thieves as they say, so why Taylor should hang around while they hash it out is beyond me.

I have no idea where he will land, but he won't play in Miami this season. If it turns out BB wants him I assume he could find a way to make good use of him. His potential landing spots are limited to 6-8 teams with a legit shot at a ring even with him, and further limited by cash, cap and scheme limitations.

I have a feeling the comment made in the paper about what he could make on a movie deal was a message to any suitors he can't talk to because of Tuna playing games about what he's prepared to settle for financially to get to a contender - something north of $4.5M...

JT's new to the 3-4
No he isn't, they've been running it at times since Saban was there.
