Why? Where is the justice in this? I can't even afford to go out for lunch.

I feel you man, but as long as people go to the games, as long as we remain fans, none of this will change. Some players embrace the reason they're in the game making millions (like Bruschi), some don't. Life ain't fair.

Re: Hall to get 70 mill from raiders

Just saw, only 20 million is guaranteed, it's a 7 year deal....I would've given him a 7 year deal with that kind of money as long there's some fake years, and ridiculouly hard incentives.

Re: Hall to get 70 mill from raiders

true if it was over 25 guarenteed... i would have laughed alot more

Re: Hall to get 70 mill from raiders

seems like the Shell is shelling out the money... and for some players (tommy kelly) who totally don't seem to deserve it. No wonder they are in the cellar...

Re: Hall to get 70 mill from raiders

Think they'll still be able to afford Asomugha?

Re: Hall to get 70 mill from raiders

Even with all the money they have been throwing around, I think they will be able to keep Asumugha at least for one year. He is their franchise player and probably will make about 7.5 mill and I don't think they will release him. Even if Hall is making 70 mill over 7 years, it probably will be structured in a way to keep the cap hit low this year and increase every year.

Does halls deal rank in the top 5 thus increasing the franchis tag value of Asomugha? If so he better acceept it before the renounce it.

Probably, if Hall signs for 70 mill over 7 years thats 10 mill a year and it probably is top 5 money. Raiders having Hall and Asomugha, that is probably one of if not the best cornerback duo in the NFL.

And teams will still be able to throw on them, if the immortal Tommy Kelly and his D-Line crew don't generate consistent pressure. There's a reason why Belichick/Pioli don't invest that kind of money in CBs :p

Re: Hall to get 70 mill from raiders

I remember hearing John Clayton last week saying that before the Hall trade the Raiders were 19 Million OVER the cap. They're going to have to start restructuring or cutting pretty soon.

I don't know where your town is, but next time I'm in your town I will gladly take you out for lunch.

Al Davis....what's this guy's deal? He is seriously senile. Will they ever run him out of town???

You may have disremembered... they are between $6-7M under per the lastest reports. But again, contracts can easily be structured so that the first few years cap hits are well below the contract average. Particularly if you have bonus money to distribute or you are willing to guarantee future salary or bonus dollars.

Asumugha's exclusive tag is reportedly already set at at least $9.7M or so, so this deal won't likely raise it that much, if at all. What gets added to the top 5 figures will be Hall's salary this year plus the pro rated portion of his signing bonus - or basically his cap charge if it cracks the top 5. And as you said, it will probably be structured to keep it low this year. What deals like his and Asante's and Clemens will likely do is push the tag (and the bar) for corners into double digits over the next 3-4 years if they see the middle to end of their deals when backloaded salary meets amortized bonus.

Davis has no intention of releasing Asumugha, he wants to field them as a pair of elite corners. He has the cash for bonus money this year because he paid Russell no bonus last season, agreeing to guarantee $30M of his rookie deal instead, and some of his high ticket salary players like Moss and Sapp have moved on. That boosted his net revenue last season. He'll probably squeeze his top pick this year to do the same (and he only has a high first round pick left in the first three rounds after this deal). And if he gets Asumugha signed to a long term deal as well his cap will drop by 60%.

Al is an old man on his way out - he doesn't care about cap consequences 2-3-4 years down the road any more. He probably figures even if he lives that long the whole NFL will be in uncapped chaos or locked out by then anyway. Without a new stadium the Raiders can't compete for long in an uncapped league, and I don't think the concensus is he will still own them come 2010-11 and he is in a win now mode. He also sold a minoriy interest in the team just last fall for $150M so his personal cash flow is now sufficient to persue his dogged determination to win another SB or two before he checks out. He came close in the Gruden/Gannon years after a 15 year drought.

They were talking about his philosophy on NFLN the other night, said even he and Madden butted heads back in the day because Madden couldn't convince him that the big, fat uglies Davis actually came up coaching (DL/OL) were where you invest to win. Al is all about speed, talent and the vertical game.

Agreed, Its going to be interesting to see what happens with the raiders D this year.

Re: Hall to get 70 mill from raiders

Ive read that Hall with Oakland pretty much ensures that the Raiders will now draft Darren McFadden with their 4th pick, and Id agree with that opinion. They could probably go Oline, but McFadden's speed at that position is rare, and Davis will probably gamble with the rest of the package(or baggage, depending on you look at it).

But my God, these guys are spreading the money around like theyve got a tree out back. And its going to be cool to see what all this money and these moves means next season because the West is definitely on the schedule. Hall specifically is one of the few corners out there with a reasonable chance of matching up with Moss. He's also the kind of guy Moss has historically torched because the D scheme will leave him 1on1 without help. Gonna be fun to watch that matchup when the time comes.

But regarding the draft impact, Oakland's drafting McFadden would eliminate one key trade scenario that could have helped the Pats move down and out of that spot. Basically if Oakland drafts McFadden, that slim opportunity to acquire those 2 Dallas first-rounders for a move up to 7 is gone.

Hall is a joke. I live in the Atl and the Atl. Fans watched him get burned TIME after TIME. Most are glad he's gone.

He'll NEVER play out all seven years in Oakland and that contract.
