Special team? Based on what? Spitting the bit and getting laughed at by billions of viewers worldwide in the super bowl with NFL immortality on the line? That's not special. That's an embarassment.
How did they get in a position to achieve this NFL immortality????
Name the 2 names please.
EDIT I just saw the tag for this thread and love it!

Excuse me if I'm just not going to sit back and chant the "In Bill and Pioli I Trust" crapola that most of you spew. Sorry, but that hasn't cut the mustard since 2004. Tom Brady is in his PRIME people. We may NEVER get another QB like this. Time for BB and Pioli to GET IT DONE. No more excuses.

Here are the problems I have with this type of reasoning:

1. It's incredibly hard to win multiple SBs, particularly in this era. None of the other 32 teams have one more than one in the last 10 years.

2. Even if Brady is a once in a life time player and BB the same for coach. In the 40+ year history of the SB only Montana and Bradshaw have more SB wins to their name - both pre Cap. Knoll is the only coach with 4 SB. Etc. etc.

3. In other words, the Pats are currently somewhere in the top five "dynasties" of all teams to have EVER played the game in the SB era, yet you chastise Pats fans for having standards that are too low? Who is being unreasonable here with expectations? The best coaches and players that ever were get 3 or so SB titles. Maybe a team that is great gets 5.

4. You seem to be asserting that BB/Pioli can do better, but just lack the proper motivation or sense of urgency. I'd suggest points 1 to 3 just suggest that NO coach, player, or team is THAT good. Ever. Under any circumstances.

You sound like that parent of a 8 year old kid who's already taking grades two levels above everyone else in her generation, comes home with a 97 on a test and you gripe about the 3 problems she got wrong - "We studied those dear, how are you going to get into Harvard with grades like that?!"

High expectations are one thing, expectations to do what no other team has ever done is just ridiculous.

So I shouldn't have expected this team to win the super bowl against a Giants team they were better than just because NOBODY hasd ever gone 19-0 in the history of the game??????????? What????? That is foolish. Should we never expect the S&P 500 to break the 1600 barrier just because it has never been done? Records are made to be broken. The Pats choked the last 2 years with super bowl titles in their grasp. Sorry, but I'm not going to just give them a pass on that. It's time to close the deal. Too many people want to make excuses for these guys just because they won 3 titles already. You know what? Bill Gates doesn't get a pass from Microsoft shareholders just because he brought Microsoft from a penny stock to a powerhouse. He still has to deliver the goods or else he will be canned. It's a bottom line business unless you are satisfied living with 2nd place. I'm not. Sorry.

My point is those franchises and the vast majority of their fans would NEVER ever make excuses for spitting the bit in the big game like the Pats did this year and in 2006 against the Colts. That is unacceptable. Far too many people on this board are quick to make excuses and say "Ya, but we went 18-1". Winning Titles is all that matters.

This is the first Yankees blog result from my Google search ... might possibly be an excuse or two. Dude, relax ... pardon the cliche, but it's just a game. I haven't been able to watch ESPN, NFLN, etc. since the Super Bowl, but I do realize it is just a game in which we have absolutely no control. We have simply (and passionately) routed for our team because they play near where we live or our granddads routed for them. I am certainly satisfied that they have rated higher than the 31 other teams 3 times since 2001. That's pretty friggin' impressive! Granted, I would love to see them win another championship or two (and I believe they will) over the years remaining in the Tom Brady era, but they may not - and I am OK with that. We have been spoiled by the success of the Pats and Red Sox recently, and I think you may be caught up in it. Take a deep breath and enjoy the games - they are for entertainment. The sooner you come to terms with that, the sooner you will feel better about watching our Pats - after all, it is, indeed, just a game.

We are right on the cusp and it's BB and Pioli's job to close the deal. It's about time they get it right this year. Time is ticking because we won't be this close forever.

I don't know about you, but I'm sure hoping this goes on a HELL of a lot longer than Tom Brady.

The 49ers of the 80, or better yet Dallas and Pittsburgh since the 70s are the examples I want the Pats to follow.

Sure, pile up a few SBs when you get a great player, but don't mortgage the future. I want sustained greatness, constant contention for as long as I'm alive.

I want to be able to compare Brady to some other guy who won a couple, the same way Dallas fans get to compare Aikman to Staubach.

All this "on the cusp" and "we'll never see another like him" stuff is crap. Guys like Brady are rare, but the SB is littered with teams who won with less. Keep to the philosophy that gets you there year in and out and hope you punch through for the title.

Exactly. Bad enough dropping 10 large to see that disaster, but the embarassment of walking out of that stadium getting insulted and mocked by ****y New York fans is something I will never forget. Add that to the fact that I had to drive another 6 hours back to vegas that night after being stuck in the parking lot for 2 hours and, let's just say, I was not a happy camper!!! Brutal to say the least.

LOL, that was my exact experience, too. Except instead of driving 6 hours to Vegas I flew 17 hours to Asia. But I know exactly how you felt. That being said, I'm more or less over it and seem to be much less frustrated than you are now. I utilize repression more than anger. But to each his own.

Well posted. Hell...the Giants won the SB with Eli frickin' Manning. Chicago went to the SB with Rex "is that my receiver" Grossman.

Brady's great--perhaps the greatest ever, but he's just one of many.

Please ban this troll. Havn't we been through enough?

Who's talking about the SB? Of course they spit the bit.

Actually, the fact they basically choked it away is even more reason not to suddenly change the philosophy of off-season moves, not to deviate from a system that has put the team in a position to win it all more than almost any franchise in history.

For all the "activity" last year, the real success was in the continuation of the "diamond in the rough" approach that's worked so well: Sammy Morris (unheralded), Wes Welker (for a 2nd), Moss (4th and cheap money), K. Washington, etc.

Moss was just the repeat of Dillon in 04. Short term opportunity to go all the way that was too good to pass up. Welker was the guy for the longer term development.

In this entire run, they only "dive in and get them" FA signings they have done were Colvin and A. Thomas. Everyone else has been a guy with "issues" or injury, or playing below capabilities in a system due to depth or style of that team.

I don't know who the Morris type guy out there is this year, but they usually get one or two a year. The only time they totally misfired was in 05 (I think 02 was still a team being re-built from the inherited Grier/Caroll disaster).

Do they make mistakes? Sure. I'd love to see a young AND decent LB for once. But they're batting so far above most other GMs I have a hard time getting upset over one position.

Another garbage post by National Sports Advisers. Stupid handle. Stupid post.

I think BB and Pioli are the best in the business, but I'm getting a little sick and tired of hearing the "In Bill and Pioli I trust" mumbo jumbo. Fact is, we haven't hoisted a Lombardi since 2004 and Tom Brady has been in his prime the last 3 years. If we lose out on Moss, than once again we will be without a true #1 receiver in one of the prime years of Tom Brady's career.
First Maroney .......
Second Moss .......
now Belichick and Pioli .......

And another thing. I wasted 10K to go to Arizona and see these guys pee all over themselves in the biggest game in franchise history with NFL immortality on the line. If you think any Pats fan should have been happy or proud walking out of that stadium that night with an 18-1 record than you are insane. Repeat after me..............CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE ALL THAT MATTER.
I thought you went to Arizona to visit your mentor NEM!

i like the tag on this thread at the bottom...

my God this main page is borderline unbearable right now. Please stop with the panic posts.

LOL, that's tremendous.

Yeah, things are pretty out of hand now. They'll settle down soon enough.

i think we got a little spoiled with the 3 in 4 cocnept...

it really is hard to win a SB people, it is really hard....

sure we havnt won in the last 3 years....but lets not lose faith...

I love how some people twist my words. I NEVER said I want to be a Giants fan. I said I'd rather be a fan of a team that wins the super bowl than a fan of a team that loses no matter how good their record was.
I see that you have awaken from your nap. However, you must have lost your pacifier and your bib since you are throwing another temper tantrum.

Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I want my Mossssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

What is amazing is that someone agreed with him. Then again, NSA does live at home with his mother.
