Reiss: Washington and Samuel updates

Believe it or not, Bam signing elsewhere might actually be a good sign for Kelly Washington. He mighta been #5.

That's my instinct on Asante, as well. While the whole "Contract Year Performance" has become a bit of a cliche, I still think there are certain types of people who simply will not give the same amount of effort once they hit their big pay day.

And I guy who a tattoo reading "Get Paid" might, maybe, kinda be one of those types of guys.

Exactly see Richard Seymour...................

Not sure what you are saying in the above line but I suspect you don't have a favorable opinion of AS.

Do you know the real story behind his "Get Paid" tattoo or are you forming an opinion based on Jackie M's error-filled article on the BG two years back?

I just know what I read in some article. If it was an error-filled article, sorry, it's not my fault. I don't have to time to fact check everything I read on the Internet.

But now that you've got me looking I found this interview with Jemele Hill:

Speaking of trying to make you look bad, the media has had a field day with that tattoo of yours: "Get Paid."

Actually, they got it wrong. It says, "Get Rich To This." Gnarls Barkley came out with a song, "Get Rich To This." I take it to mean that whatever you're doing -- and it's not just about making money -- just get rich to this. You're doing your best. You're going all out. You want to succeed and do the best you're doing.

So that's fine, it's a Gnarls Barkley song, I'm down with that. But you can spin the tat all you want and say it can have non-monetary interpretations, but after all the stuff he's said in the media about wanting to get paid and the hold out and $7MM being an insult, well, excuse me if he hasn't quite earned the benefit of the doubt as to how people should interpret a tattoo that says "Get Rich to This."

Anyway, I don't have much of a beef with Asante, not even during his hold out. Sports is business.

Just saying Asante seems like the type of guy that might put things on cruise control after the Brinks truck gets backed up.

AS will be a Jet, and a pest for years to come. With Revis and Rhodes, they may have the best secondary in the NFL.

Edit: As long as they have David Barrett they won't.

ok lets not get out of hand here.

yep that's all i have to say. a pretty worthless response. sorry

Later......***ante!!!!!!!

Thanks for your wonderful contribution to the topic. Your going to miss him next year when Hobbs is the #1 CB though. You think theres *****ing about Hobbs now, wait until he's the main guy. I like Hobbs a lot but I think we are very weak at CB with him as the main guy.

Actually after doing a bit more reading on Asante, he can't even get the origins of his own tattoo right! :)

"Get Rich to This" is a Goodie Mob song, not Gnarls. I suppose he was confused because Cee-lo is a member of both acts.

Anyway, for anyone interested in reading the lyrics of this inspiring song that encourages you to "do your best", you can read them here:

(Suffice to say they are R-rated :))

Way to make an assumption based on nothing. I really don't understand the attitude a lot of Patriots fans have towards Asante. He played his ass off here for a long time and now that he's a FA everyone going to rip on him. He's not any more likely to be the type of guy to put things on cruise control than anyone else. I highly doubt he would have lasted this long under BB if that were the case.

Asante Samuel is a young man who has earned the right to make a fortune and secure his future on the FA Market...I'd just feel a lot better about it if he hadn't let that INT, and the SB, slip through his fingers...

Wow, relax. It's Friday. If you can't acknowledge that through his actions and words Asante appears more motivated by money than most NFL players, there really is nothing to talk about.

I guess we don't then because I don't see him as being much different from most players who want a big contract. Seymour did this before as well. He got a tattoo in college and this is supposedly an indication of how he is motivated as a pro?

He's a great CB and deserves a big payday. This will probably be his one big contract of his career and I don't know why its a big deal that he wants to make as much as possible. I know most of us here wouldn't leave our current jobs for a higher paying job right?

This is the team that let Ty fringing Law & Lawyer Milloy go. Asante in his prime would not be able to hold Ty's jock strap. He was a 4th round pick, i'm pretty confident we can figure something out. Just wait next year when everyone on this board is saying Asante who? Don't drink the "Shutdown CB" kool aid, the guy isn't Champ Baily...Get over yourself...:bricks:

I 100% agree he is due all the money he can possibly get for himself. He earned it and I don't begrudge him for going to the highest bidder. Nor do I begrudge him for his holdout.

All I'm saying is I won't be surprised if the Asante does not match the motivation or play of the last two seasons.

The last years of Asante's life have been leading up to his free agency. He openly acknowledges that this is "It" -- his big moment to cash in. From what he has said, it sounds like he has been looking more forward to his big pay day than to playing football.

The not-exactly-irrational question one could ask is that once you have achieved your openly stated goal of getting your big pay day, what then?

I do not recall a Patriot whose desire for a big payday and raise was discussed more than Asante. I mean, it's been years that this has been going on. Maybe Ty Law? I won't be happy to see Asante go, but I'm pretty sick of the whole conversation. It feels like a girlfriend who keeps subtly threatening to leave if she can find someone better. Well, I love you, but maybe you should leave.

I love Washington's game and attitude. I hope he's re-signed.

Thanks. Now I don't need to post anything in this thread myself. ;)

You said it all.

:rofl::rofl:

We will be okay without Asante. Yes, he had some good years in the Pats system. However, he is not a "shut-down" corner like Bailey, D. Sanders, Law, etc.

How different would we all feel had he made that damn catch?!!?

Co-signing just b/c I feel this point needs to be re-iterated. I know it's two different eras of CB play given the rule changes, but still a point worth making.
