Mark Schlereth, Two-faced liar

He's a great player...i think he was an OL, but sadly, hes also a HUGE hypocrite. He's def. hot and sexy for a sasquatch. lol id like to know what parcells said to young as well.

I don't know much about Mark. I will admit that I found him cute. What I cannot abide by is any form of hypocrisy. Hate it...probably why I like BB. Anyhow, I sent him an email. I know he could care less but I feel better after sending it. And I no longer find him cute...lol.

Anyhow, what did Parcells say to Young?

He commented on how the 49ers were known for scripting their first 10 plays. When the Giants would play the 49ers, the 9ers headsets would magically "malfunction" during those first 10 plays. Under the NFL rules, if one team's headsets malfunctioned, the other team couldn't use theirs either.

So the Giants couldn't communicate with their QB and the 49ers didn't need to.

Young looked very uncomfortable.

haha i wish i could watch that. so big tuna. lol

the broncos stole signals, and mike shanahan bragged about it. It was cute back then.

"Our guy keeps a pair of binoculars on their signal-callers every game," says Broncos coach Mike Shanahan. "With any luck, we have their defensive signals figured out by halftime. Sometimes, by the end of the first quarter."

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/magazine/life_of_reilly/news/2002/01/09/life_of_reilly/

So it has been said by many of the haters, that the reason video vs. other forms of spying is more of a competetive advantage is because it can be quickly decoded and synced possibly for use during the same game. Well, there is no difference here... Shanahan had the signals figured out by the first quarter. Now thats efficiency!
It wasn't the first time...as said, Shanahan got signals quick...and yet through all of the first weeks of spygate, he was railing against the Pats becaiuse they stole signals and had a LARGE advantage..funny how what he said was so so unfair was what his OWN team had done...
And no..he did NOT make any distinction as to HOW the signals were stolen..just that it was a VERY unfair advantage Mr Hypocrite himself

Anyone who knows anything about Belichick knows that he is a videophile. He taped the signals because he likes having video records of *everything* for later reference. That's just how he is. Clearly, even if he could use the video to decode the signals during the game, it would still be less efficient than Shanahan's "we can decode everything by the end of the first quarter" methods. It was just a matter of Belichick staying in his comfort zone, which happened to turn into a procedural infraction.

ESPN controls that .. there are rules about what they can do or they won't return to do the guest spots.

Who cares about ESPN rules?

If it is a live show, do it anyway. Some other network will put you on to talk about how you nailed some ESPN putz.

I saw this http://bleacherbuzz.net/?p=29 in another thread this morning and couldn't resist bumping this one...I haven't been able to stomach that sanctimonious hypocrite since he made those remarks.

It's funny - I've heard so many supposedly smart "talking heads" (and dumb fans) say that the Patriots had the largest monetary fine ever imposed by the NFL.

That's not true.

The Broncos were fined nearly $1 million.

That alone tells you how serious a violation that was - at least in relation to the Patriots fine.

Of course all of that assumes that there was some competitive advantage to having both Elway and Terrell Davis on the same team.

If the rest of the NFL fans, commentators and others went on the same level of diatribe against the Broncs they do against the Patriots then maybe I'd have to accept it. But the fact that they don't illustrates the hypocrisy (not to mention the litany of incidences of serious cheating we've drawn attention to of teams like the Bears, Chiefs and Dolphins).

Well Schlereth really wasn't lying. The Broncos didn't get an unfair advantage by taping. They got an unfair advantage by cheating the cap. Maybe getting an unfair advantage by cheating the cap isn't enough to make him question his team.

It's like political scandals. Politicians can rip off boatloads of money (and even hide it in their freezers) from graft and through lobbyists and no one cares. These kinds of revelations usually rate a collective shoulder shrug among the electorate, but let that same politician get caught in a sex scandal of any type and his goose is cooked.

The "smart 'talking heads' (and dumb fans)" miss an important detail when they say things like this, but there an underlying fact driving it: Belichick did receive the largest fine ever imposed on a coach by the league.

They miss or disregard the coach/team distinction just like they miss or disregard the year of the "no taping" memo.

Regarding the Broncos and their fine, unless I'm reading this article incorrectly:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A28969-2004Sep17.html

They were fined twice for late 90's cap violations, with both fines being close to $1 million.

2 3rd round picks and nearly $2 million in fines. I'm sure Schlereth would say "Spygate" was worse and gave the team a bigger advantage.

Patriots supporters on ESPN…

Bill Parcells (gone)
Sean Salisbury (gone)
Keyshawn Johnson

And though his disgusting performance in the booth during the Pats game against the Ravens – Tony Corn has always referred to Brady as the golden child and was one of the first to predict 19-0 last April.

Amazing how Schlereth went from being a 282lb Guard to being a 205Lb TV Journalist. He must have an AWESOME workout program for removing fat and muscle. Oh. Wait. Maybe he was just a steroid ridden o-lineman who had to retire when all his joints gave out from all the juice he did to maintain his weight and power, and shrunk up like his gonads during preseason. I hope hypocrisy is even worse on his joints than steroids so we can see his wheelchair behind his BS analyst desk.

Hey Zeke, why don't you tell us how you really feel about this guy. ;)

I have a simpler wish about Schlereth and that is that he be removed from any and all TV football analysis so I don't have to listen to his 88 (generous) IQ based opinions.

A lot of players gain or lose a lot of weight after playing, and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with steroids.

Mark Schlereth, NFL Live, 2/15/2008:

Well Mark, unless you think there is a difference between the coaching staff gaining an unfair advantage and the front office doing so, you should be bothered. Very bothered:

Broncos Penalized Again for Salary Cap Violations

Either Mr. Schereth is a disengengious two-faced liar, or he has been living in a cave for the past 5 years. How he can sit there with a straight face and say "it would bother him" if he found out the team he was on was cheating - while discussing the Patriots and implying that all his Super Bowl teams were squeaky clean, is simply staggering to contemplate.
He gets paid by ESPN and obviously gets told what to think.:D

I don't recall whether Davis said that, but he was definitely full of sanctimonious criticism of BB and the Patriots in the aftermath of Spygate, phase I.

I am starting to wonder if Comcast and the other big cable companies have a cozy relationship with Disney (ESPN's corporate parent). ESPN's reporting has just been SO biased:

1. Their own reporter, Chris Mortenson, reported that there was nothing new in the "revelations" last week that the Patriots were taping since 2001. He said it was reported back in September, although no one paid much attention. And Goodell said last week that he knew in September the team had been following the practice since 2001 of taping the other teams' coaches from the sidelines, and that his original punishment was for that whole period. And yet this week ESPN is treating it like shocking new crimes. They have said nothing of the facts revealed by Mortenson and Goodell. (But why let facts get in the way of sensationalistic stories that cause people to tune in and sell ads, no matter whose reputation is tarnished?)

2. How about the poll they posted within the past day or two, asking what the penalties should be for the Patriots' "new" transgressions? There was no option such as "None, they have already been penalized for this". Instead, the only options were things like "Forfeit all their games since 2000", "Give back their Super Bowl Trophies", "Forfeit their 2009 1st round pick", etc. The "softest" choice was "something else", which could be taken to mean "nothing" or (more likely) to mean something else (like all of the above, or capital punishment or ...).

I am almost getting to the point that, despite my off-season hunger to fill the emptiness of the off-season, I can't watch ESPN anymore. It is just so full of BS.

Me too. I hope ESPN lose a six state region, of course casual (re: Red Sox) fans don't care.

A lot of players gain or lose a lot of weight after playing, and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with steroids.

Usually they gain, like Golic. They eat the same but no longer must workout. After a couple years they say, "Whoa, when did I get fat?" Then they sign on with Nutri-System like Dan Marino.:D

Schlereth just found Nutri-System before Marino and Golic.

A lot of players gain or lose a lot of weight after playing, and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with steroids.

Most gain, as was said, esp. after they quit playing, but in Schlereth's case, his entire body style, mass, shape etc changed. He not only lost fat (as many O-linemen do deliberately eat to keep on enough weight to be 285-325lbs for playing weight) but lost ungodly amounts of muscle...if you've ever seen other "fat" linemen after their careers are over, the old muscle degenerates and looks like fat, but is just untoned muscle, giving them a 'big' appearance long after they've stopped overeating, working out, etc. In Schlereth's case, in a very short period of time, even the muscle went away. This is usually a very easy case for Steroids being the reason for the 'un-natural' physique they had as NFL players. Even his face shrunk, and did it in a way that makes you shrug your shoulders. I'm not sayin'...I'm just sayin'

A hypocrite on Roids. What a surprise.

A lot of players gain or lose a lot of weight after playing, and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with steroids.

So you are saying you need facts in order to make public accusations? When did this start? I must have missed the memo...

that's a good point. it was always on the back of my mind that he was losing tons of body mass, that was obvious, and with his talking out on the pats "cheating", but i never really articulated his total hypocrisy. i should have put 2 and 2 together. brilliant !!
