-Let AS go...not worth 8-9 Mill CB's in our scheme
-Add Dansby or Hobson as ILB from $ saved by letting go AS, and move AD inside(hybrid ILB/OLB)
-Colvin and Vrabel as OLB with Gholston/Harvey and Woods off the bench as rush guys, maybe Bru or Seau if one of them decides to return
- draft 2 SOLID CB's with #2 and Oak #3 pick
- Merriweather and Rodney at S.....Sanders a b/u......draft a S with 4th rounder.
- DL is set....add a b/u NT via FA

That would make ths a good D. We take our lumps with rook CB's, but the front 7 and experienced Safties should help them develop.

So, as I see the dominoes fall with addition of an ILB via FA as opposed to keeping AS. The 6-7 mill spent on Dansby is much better spent than for AS. He brings athleticism to ILB position, and allows rest of the LB to then be flecible to put presuure on QB since our DL is not contructed to pressure

Why not Kawika Mitchell?

Im going to be honest with you. Hobson is an above average player at his bets and played below average last year. HE really is nothing more then what I just said and he is not a playmaker. Dansby looks as if he will be franchised so that may be a pricey way to go

he is the beneficiary of 4 guys in front of him. Not really a 3-4 LB either.

Dansby : 6-4, 250lbs
Mitchell : 6-1, 253 lbs and actually an OLB

BB like big LB's who can shed blocks. Mitchell is short

well.........let's do a sign and trade....AS for KD ? Cards gotta sign their WR's too. How much cap space do they have ?

Dansby will be expensive. What about Greg Ellis, Victor Hobson, and Clark Haggans? All three could be had for the same amount it would cost for one Dansby.

Mitchell fits in as an ILB perfectly. He likes taller OLB's, but the ILB's are pluggers.

I guess that could happen. Im not sure how you would get AS todo that with. Also Wouldn't you guys eat a huge cap hit if you guys gave him big money then traded him?

Ellis is 33.....no thanks. Why do we need aging OLB who will want big $ in his last contract.

I suggested Dansby or Honbson(Victor).

Clark Haggans...eh....31 yrs old, though 6-4, he is bit on the light side at 240

He's been a stud in Pittsburgh's 3-4 for years. Far better than Hobson, who I like as a player (and always comes up big against the Patriots), but Haggans has been a very, very good player.

how do they pay dansby?

Count me among those who don't see the team splurging on the best available FA linebacker for the second season in a row. I'm sure they'd just assume go with the 3 starters they have and either some combination Bruschi/Seau/Other Veteran LB or a kid from the draft (though probably not a 1st rounder).

Why not make a few inexpensive FA signing and "bulk up" in the draft??

Agreed. Spending on the big ticket FAs is not usually the Patriots game, although they have shown a willingness to spend at LB (Thomas, Colvin), probably because Bill likes smart veterans there, and those guys get paid.

This team has enough of its own guys to ink without dabbling too much in the FA market, so I expect them to be pretty quiet beyond bringing in solid role players.

Hobson would be tops on my list. He was hindered last year because he was playing outside and the Jets d-line sucked royally. I think he can come cheap and it hurts the Jets to lose him. He is younger and has more upside than the other players mentioned other than Dansby who will likely be franchised.

Has anyone considered what would happen if we had another Pro Bowl receiver opposite Moss and Welker?

What happens to the double team at that point?
