That's a bad comparison, though I would agree that if the Colts had been working on their 4th SB in a decade at that point, there would have been more haters for them. There is surely a jealousy factor.

There were lopsided scores in the Colts '04 season, but their fan base & media surrogates (see: Bill Simmons) did NOT take blowouts to the next level by declaring an "eff you world tour." Pats fans have their reasons, but that doesn't sit well with a group of fans looking at a 30 point deficit on the scoreboard.

Here's where I get confused. Why isn't there more Colt hate? Do the rest of the fan bases know about Polian and his antics? I don't get the Dungy love-at all, but I'm tired of that debate. Peyton is a HUGE whiner. Do thye not see the rantings of their fanbase or is it just us?

I'm sick of the Simmons angle too. Here's a guy who started his own website just ranting about what he loves and built a following. ESPN purchases the website and he cashes in big time. This guys living the dream. He gets paid a heck of a lot of money to do what he did as a hobby. He's living the dream. If you don't know he's a homer, well, you're an idiot. If you don't like him, don't read it. Simple as that. I hate TMQ, so I don't click.

And the running up of the score blows my mind. I have NEVER been offended by this. I can't imagine saying "My God, they're personally offending me because my team sucks and can't stop them" Wussification of America.

I actually kind of like Simmons - he's a great writer. But he is a homer's homer.

You can't defend BB sprinting for the exits before the game is over on one hand, and then talk about the "wussification of America" on the other. BB ran up some scores; there is little question about that. And opposing coaches were expected to dutifully sit there through the end of the blowout & take it like men.

BB hates losing; they all do, and so do we. But he couldn't stick around for an extra second when his time came.

BB & the Pats tried to change the rules this season, but there is a code; it has nothing to do with the wussification of America, and everything to do with decent, plain ol' fashioned good sportsmanship. The author of this thread was complaining because no one likes the Pats anymore after this season; all I'm saying is that you reap what you sow.

So you're saying it's about the fans??

When I was on the AOL Pats board in the mid 90s, Simmons was there posting with the rest of us.

And the vast majority of Pats fans hated the guy. Even back then it was all a schtick.

Your point of view just reinforces what Patriots fans have been saying all along about the media. It's all shallow twaddle.

I, for one, am sick of the we must hug and love each other after the game. EVERY single person on this team was gracious in defeat as they have been gracious in wins. Honestly, I did not watch the end of the game so I didn't see what he did. Didn't he go over to Coughlin and hug him though?

There is a wussification and it starts with the "we can't keep score" crowd and looks like it's infiltrating.

I don't consider Simmons to be a homer. I know better than that. He was a hater long before he was a homer.

Opposing coaches like Joe Gibbs have a bigger history of running up the score. This makes opposing coaches, fans and media a bunch of world class hypocrites. Look it up. Joe Gibbs has run up the score more than Belichick ever has.

BB tried to change the rules? WTF are you talking about? Do you have him confused with Polian?

And leaving at the last second has been explained here a hundred times. The clock read zero when he left the sideline. The Giants were celebrating. An NFL secuirty guy actually grabbed Belichick by the arm and escorted him all the way across the field, where Coughlin had also been escorted to. NFL security also set up a yellow lined cordon to lead the Patriots off the field. This was done ON the field. The refs added one second to the clock AFTER Belichick had hugged Coughlin. In fact, Belichick stuck around to congratulate 3 Giants players personally. Seau was already at his locker when someone informed the team they were putting a second back on the clock.

Just try to stop putting the Patriots in the worst possible light for once and please grow up. At least on our board.

THanks for this post. People, these are the facts from people who were there. Stop drinking the media's bs.

I do find it ironic at some level that the guy the Superbowl trophy is named after, Vince Lombardi, is associated with these niceties. Lombardi talked some great trash and lived to beat and humiliate the opposition. When did Emily Post's Book of Etiquette find a home in the NFL? Football is about strategy and violence, so I find all the forced courtesies (was this post game thing a tradition in the pre-1970s?) a bit ridiculous. Play the game and lose the extraneous crap.

Belichick is our coach, and I hope he stays that way for a while. I hope he views the media as the enemy and continues to flip it the bird in his own way.

Make no mistake, Belichick hates the media. Despises them even more after the personal attacks this year. But he knows he has to play the game and does his press conferences and radio shows because he is contracted to do it.

Yep political correctness has been eff'n up the NFL. But it's the media that plays it up to the controversial levels we see/hear. I doubt the coaches give one Sh*& if the other coach shakes his hand.
