Why the Patriots lost last night?

Don't blame Gay for this one. He played with more heart than the rest of the team combined, it seemed.
Gay was a weak link all night! Look at the first NY drive that lead to a touchdown They converted what? 3-4 3d downs repetedly going after Gay.
I strongly believe that the giants looked at the Jacksonville tape and saw that Gay could be beaten over and over. Why do you think Jacksonville kept it close and their QB had a monster game? They kept throwing at Gay!
There's a lot of posters who place the blame for this defeat on our oline and I grant you they didn't step up for sure. But when your secondary consists of Hobbs, Gay Merriweather(where was he?) and Harrison you are in the middle of a shtstorm particulary when an all out blitz is called!

you lost because your defense is soft against the pass and your offensive line can not stop
the blitz.

:)

The defense played fine. They gave up 17 points which is about as good as anyone could have asked them to play all things considered. It was no secret that we would have to win with our offense. It wasn't the O-line that was at fault. If the giants send 2 more people than the line can block it's someone other than the line's fault. This loss should be placed firmly on the shoulders of McDaniels. He just let the giants keep coming with blitzes, and he didn't make the adjustments until our last drive. Why it took so long for them to start throwing screens is beyond me, but this finger should be pointed at McDaniels.

anyone remember the panthers superbowl ? weis designed specifically rollouts for brady to avoid the panthers front four. We did it once - in the last drive.just lack of adjustments.

Seriously, this was the first team (giants) to get consistant pressure on Brady. He has not faced that for at least two seasons. He was not the Brady we have seen all year. He was rattled and made some very bad decisions and a few poor throws. If you watch him in the pocket, his feet were constantly moving. If you haven't experirnced that situation for a while it's tough to handle. That and the fact that the Giants were the better team last night was their undoing. 18 - 1 is damn sure nothing to be upset about though. Both teams played their hearts out and left it all on the field.

There are dozens of little things that could have gone differently, or different decisions that could have been made.

The D did fine, especially considering the number and quality of opportunities the Giants had. But they should not have needed to squeeze out a win at the end.

The fundamental reason for the loss was the inability to stop the pass rush, especially on the edge, and I am not sure why they could not.

I saw Brady miss open guys more than he usually does.

Our o-line could not provide consistent pass protection, and were getting beat in 1 on 1 pass defense situations.

Our OLB's arrived at Eli's doorstep but never had what it took to close the deal and get the sack all game long. As evidenced by the great play Eli made when they had his Jersey.
Just seems our OLB's always get there, but don't quite finish.
I hope we either draft or acquire a player that can close the deal when within arm's reach of the QB.

Drafting a stud OT wouldn't hurt either.
If we used a first on a guard, why not use one on a tackle.
I'm not saying draft this tackle at #7, but make some trades etc... and get value for a high grade tackle.

Gee how about the HC, OC, OL, QB. With the OC, and that SIEVE of an OL. front and center. They were pathetic,, commiserable, crummy, deplorable, distressing, feeble, , heartbreaking, inadequate, lamentable, meager, , miserable, moving, paltry, petty, piteous, pitiable, pitiful, poor, puny, rueful, sorry*,useless, woeful, worthless, wretched. Just to throw in a few discriptors.

Brady falls apart when he doesn't have all day to stand in the pocket.

one thing also is that you guys were in the limelight all year -so teams
had alot of time to focus on every single aspect of your team.

how you run routes, adjustments, game planing, player match-ups etc.....

you would have been better off hiding in the shadows and peaking
during the big game, like you did on your second super bowl win.

oh well another MANNING wins a super bowl.

1. Before the 4th and 13 when the pats went for it instead of going for the field goal they should have called a run. Instead on 3rd down they chose to try to pass and erned a 3 yard loss. A run would have made it a 45 yrd field goal or so.

2. Just didn't run enough throughout the game. Maroney only got 14 rushes.

alot of plays could have changed the outcome if you change just one of them. But you can't and it's done.

Pierre Woods looked quick rushing the passer.. I don't know why they didn't spell AD for a play or two on that final drive.

but I hope he gets into the rotation next year. they need speed at linebacker. the pendulum will swing and the pats will bulk up on defense.

I just hope BB is back.

This game was lost by the O-line and the coaching staff.
3 pro-bowlers played the worst game of their careers. It was embarrassing how bad the o-line played. Embarrassing!! McDaniels never made any major adjustments from half to half. Never attempted physical smashmouth football. The Giants defense is that much better than San Diego?? I don't think so. Brady was off against the Chargers so they went with the power run game, 2 TE's 2 RB sets.
The offense played with no urgency or attitude. They were outworked and outhustled by the Giants D.
Belichick's decision to go for it on 4th and 13 play was baffling. The odds were much better of Gos hitting the FG than the struggling O getting the 13 yds. Was a bizarre call considering how the O was struggling for big yards all game long. 4th and 3 fine. Go for it all day long. 4th and 13????? Seems to me Gos hit some BIG kicks last year in the playoffs. If not the FG try then pooch punt and pin the Giants deep.
Bottomline, the Patriots lost because they did not bring the energy or the swagger necessary to win game. We can only speculate as to why that was. The pressure of 19 and 0 or taking their opponent for granted??
I'm not sure!!

I thought the defense played well for most of the game. It was 10-7 until TB did his thing and drove the team down the field for what should have been the winning drive!

They showed Bru and Seau on the sidelines, looking at each other saying to each other 'It's up to us now'. And I was sure we would win.

Unfortunately the defense faltered and Manning got lucky, on that scramble throw. If what happened after broke my heart, I can't imagine how the Pats must feel! I cannot really blame any single person for the loss. I think if I had to pick the biggest problem it would be the offensive line (3 pro bowlers) unable to block the entire game.

The loss starts with the O-line. If they don't block the front four your qb has no chance. (Trust me, I watched my QB get killed all year. Including by you guys). Then its the game plan. If you aren't getting good pass protection, you needed to adjust to the power running game, as suggested earlier in this post and different routes. As soon as Moss started running shorter routes, late in the 4th, he was catching the ball again. Next the Special Teams. You have to take the shot at 3 points. You don't go for it, in the SB on 4th and 13, that's just insane. Not a gutsy call, a crazy call. Field Position? The Pats seemed to be inside their own 20 all day long to start drives, and although all season they were driving 80+ yards for scores, they were unable to yesterday because of the lack of pass protection.

The Giants played great, and they had some of the luckiest plays I've ever seen, from that Manning Scramble to that Catch on the helmet, they played way above what I've seen from them all year. The Pats offense needed to adjust to the pressure, needed more screens, more running plays and more plays to the TE. They didn't adjust all game and that was a major failure on their part. The Giants are a very good team, and a well coached team. You had to play your best, or at least your second best to beat them. The Pats I saw yesterday weren't the same team that destroyed my team earlier this year, they were a shadow of what I expected to see. The defense did its job most of the game, 17 points is a good total to hold the Giants to. You can't stop "miracle" catches from happening. It was the Offense, starting up front, that lost this game for the Pats.

I just read that one of the sports writers has a full set of copies of the tapes that goodell said he destroyed. Also mike walsh was flown in to talk to specter today and according to peter king belichick might be facing a 1 year league suspension. But who knows how much of this is sports writers b.s

You obviously didn't watch the game if you have to ask where Meriweather was. He played very solid. Also, Gay had a couple of key break-ups, though he also got beat a couple of times. So did Hobbs. I notice that you don't mention SAMUEL who let an interception bounce of his hands and also got beat, badly, by David Tyree. David Friggin Tyree. A guy who hadn't caught a TD pass ALL YEAR.

There is blame all around and its ignorant to say that it was just one thing or another specifically. It was all the things combined.

You're all wrong. We lost because BB traded his trademark grey hoodie for a brand new red one.

If watching Star Trek has taught us anything, it's never where red. The guys in the red shirts are always the first ones to get killed.

^^^^ post of the year.
