Re: Fire Tomase and his Editor Tomorrow

I'm sorry, but Tomase is just doing his job. I am guessing it is Matt Walsh being the unnamed source and is trying to save face since he is looking like the disgruntled fired employee he probably is. The timing sucks and he made a rumor that has been around for years into a new story. But if he gets someone who will confirm the rumor as an unnamed source, he has the right to report it no matter how much none of us like it.

The source in the story is not the guy who videotaped, it's someone "close to the team" who says he knows about someone taping the practice. Just one source, and not the one who videotaped.

SORRY it is not "doing his job" to quote an unamed source on a story like this.
If his source was not willing to be quoted he should not have run with the story.

CRAPPY self serving journalism.

Defend him all you want but YOU are wrong!!!

Re: Fire Tomase and his Editor Tomorrow

The answer is simple. I'm out of town, but get a hard copy and write to their biggest advertisers telling them every sports fan you know is boycotting their paper.

That will get them where it hurts.

No one knows that Matt Walsh is even the guy who allegedly videotaped the walkthrough if anyone actually did it all. But he still could the source.

Even so, if the person is credible to Tomase and has first hand knowledge, it is a valid source. Not that he is right.

As far as I am concerned, even if the Pats did tape the walkthrough, what did they do wrong. According to the report, the videographer was "hiding" in plain sight and even took the shuttle back with all the press photographers. It wasn't like some covert operation. The press, families, and friends were all at the walkthrough that only lasted 45 minutes. If the Rams were concerned about keeping it private, they would have checked the credentials of the people there. Which they didn't.

I think this report has been overblown anyway, but I don't fault Tomase from reporting it.

Every journalist these days use unnamed sources. Without unnamed sources, Woodward and Bernstein wouldn't have exposed Nixon with Watergate. And they won a Pulitzer for their articles quoting an unnamed sourced with the code name "Deep Throat".

Re: Fire Tomase and his Editor Tomorrow

Forget this guy. He's not even worth the time. He was never a descent journalist imo anyway. He's pretty much sealed his fate there in Boston and I think he knows it.

The thing is that even *I* had heard this rumor ages and ages ago. There's no way Tomase just suddenly got wind of it the day before the Superbowl. A la Jackie McMullen, he's presumably been sitting on it for release at the most splashy/disruptive moment. That's why the standard "unnamed source" doesn't sit well: show us you have genuine fresh EVIDENCE that merits dragging those 53 players through the mud on the eve of the Superbowl.

TomASSe's source is probably his girlfriend - Felger.

Can anyone say "YELLOW JOURNALISM"?

Please, don't try to equate this to what actual journalists do. That's as twisted as Spector comparing the tapes Goodell destroyed to the CIA destroying tapes...

Woodward and Bernstein had their source provide them substantial proof that was in his posession that backed at least some of his claims before they ran with any of them. Tomase has a guy who says he also heard something happened that John though was proof enough to run with this story on the heels of ESPN running the Walsh story which they only ran because of what Spector unleashed. Nobody has ever seen a tape, and now even Walsh says he never said he has one in Sunday's NYT.

Tomase is done in this town as a sports writer unless they want to add someone to the Bruins beat. He burned his bridges with the Sox ages ago which is how the Pats got stuck with his lard ass on their beat. Hope Mike can get him in at ESPN.

I'm surprised Patsox hasn't shown up to defend John. His conduct is indefensible. You'd expect this crap from a tabloid like the NYPost or internet media like ESPN or PFT, but then again that is what the Herald is now to this market. Sensationalized ad filled fishwrap. Instead of trying to retain some market share on the cheap, it should have folded altogether a couple of years ago.

Hey Mo,
Where did you read in the NYTimes that Walsh denies having a tape? Couldn't find it. Thanx.

Some thread here has a link to tomorrow's NYT. He doesn't say he doesn't have a tape but he says he never said he had one.

Re: Fire Tomase and his Editor Tomorrow

Refardless of the outcome of the game.

An unamed source..give me an f'ing break.

ESPN is reporting the story as if it is fact.

Self Serving ba*tard

I am not comparing this to Watergate. I am pointing out that unnamed sources are a part of journalism and without unnamed sources some of the biggest news stories in history might not have come out.

I do not like the contents of Tomase's article, but we do not know how credible this unnamed source really is. Everytime Tomase reports something that people don't want to hear before everyone else (such as Bruschi breaking his wrist last year), people get all over the guy. I am personally not much a fan of the guy, but I am not going to get all over the guy every time he reports something I don't want to hear.

I hope this all pans out that Tomase has egg on his face, but until all the cards are dealt I am not going to get on the guy just because I think it is a rehash of a story that has been told and was very ill-timed.

Re: Fire Tomase and his Editor Tomorrow

Well he'll no longer have any access to the Pats so just can him anyways.

Re: Fire Tomase and his Editor Tomorrow

I remember how some people used to support him and "dont be so mean to him in your comments on the article!". And I remember a year or two back that people were saying he was better than Reiss.

I see that is over and done with, thank god.

Amazing... this story is still on the front page of the herald even with the clear denials and obvious shoddy "sources"!!!!

WTF
