There’s a reason each member of the Giants arrived in Phoenix wearing a black suit yesterday. They were dressed for a funeral.

The deceased? The Patriots dynasty.

Word out of New York today was that the players, in what was supposed to remain a private show of self-confidence, donned their funeral garb to signify the belief that the Patriots’ perfect season will conclude with a most imperfect finish.

The idea for the suits belonged to linebacker Antonio Pierce, who told the media it just represented the fact that the Giants were on a business trip.

“It’s just a team unity thing,” said wide receiver Amani Toomer. “That’s how this team is. We follow along.”

However, word trickled out today that the Giants had other intentions. When wide receiver Plaxico Burress was asked if the suits were meant for business or a funeral, he just smiled.

“It’s a business trip,” he said. “It could be both.”

The more we know about the NY Giants, the more offensive they become. I realize my take is too "lowbrow" for much of the esoteric audience on this board, but I find their smarmy minority owner, arrogant playas, and secret symbolism truly offensive. Predicting victory, talking about how they are happy to play the Pats over other teams because they "match up so well", how they should have beat the Pats last time, dressing for a funeral. These guys think they are the '85 Bears. I'll be rooting for the Pats to run up the score, and if the Giants should suffer some non-crippling injuries, it couldn't happen to nicer group of guys.

It's just an immature thing. Even when it was supposed to be "team unity!" I thought it was dumb, dressing up the same is something college kids would do.

Dude, on FSR first team on Fox they joked about it too. They said Giants dressed up for their own funeral. Czab being skins fan hates the Giants and wants them to lose so thats how he interpreted the black suits. Seriously this is all depends on what team you want to win.

Planned gimmicks like this really are pretty bad.

So is Plaxico Burress's guaranteed victory. That's not exactly anything that will work in the Giants favor. Loughlin apparently wasn't pleased with Plaxico's prediction at media day today.

This is just stupid if this was true. Ive never seen any team ever just run into the super bowl and just pretty much trash another team with victory talk and stupid mind games.

Pretty low class if this is true.

Way to keep yourselves there in new york giants.

There really is nothing likable about these Giants. Plexiglass Furnace is humorless and creepy. Strahan is a self-aggrandizing motormouth. Quarterhick Junior has no personality ... This team needs to be put out of its misery.

Teams do all sorts of fruity things for displays of team unity, who cares?

I'm surprised the whole team agreed to do that. It sounds like more than immaturity. It's actually disrespectful.
The Pats have many "ghost" disrespects -- but this is real and blatantly in their face.

it's as though they are mocking the Patriot.

If the Patriots did this - personally I would be disappointed.

I thought the saddest part about this forced "unity" gimmick was that at least 20% of the players coming off the plane weren't even wearing black.

If they can't even get everyone on the team on the same page for something dumb like this, how could they possibly play effectively enough as a unit to stop the Pats?

This is pretty up there on the fruity scale though, you have to admit. It makes them look a little silly, but hey, if Pierce feels color coordinating a group of 20 and 30 something professional men is the way to go then good for him, nice use of team leadership skills.

Pierce is a prick. At the start of the season when the Giants D was sucking, anytime a reporter asked abut it he blew a freaking air horn. How stupid is that? Is anyone surprised he would do something stupid like this? As much as people get sick of the undefeated talk I'm done with the "world's against us" bull**** from the giants.

That's what I'm thinking. Are they stupid? The Patriots have been very respectful towards the Giants.

I really never felt one way or the other about the Giants but now I actively dislike them.
