Getting too far ahead of ourselves

Incineration makes sense.

But I remember reading somewhere earlier this week (yahoo.com I think) that those T-shirts and other materials, which are owned by the NFL, are shipped to Third World countries.

Not when my buddy was working on the shirts. They were all destroyed. Maybe the changed the policy cause it IS a waste of perfectly good clothing.

...

I'd also like to add if people think this has any impact on the outcome of they game, they are living in a strange world....

Welcome to the world of believers my friend where fans like me swear that any alteration in my careful placement of mini-helmets of the various teams or any change in the position of my Pats caps/logos in my living room or me not wearing any Pats gear on game day HAS an alarming negative impact on the Pats game... ;)

Been a fan of both the Sox and Pats for over 30 years now, and while I jokingly refer to things like seat positions when viewing games and "lucky" shirts, it's all in good fun. I don't think I would ever start a thread on a board claiming that it actually would have any effect on a game.

first, it was the boston globe book they put out on sale entitled "19-0"

NOW, the globe writes a story on city officials planning a parade
http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/articles/2008/01/29/parade_for_pats_is_issue_in_vote/

Not to try and defeat your fears but if the Pats play Patriots football on Sunday what does it matter who planned what?

If the team announced a parade I'd be shocked and baffled, but the City of Boston doesn't take their orders from Foxboro (although they probably should.)

What's there to plan? Haven't we had 5 parades in the last 7 years?

Call the duck boat guys (check)
Every cop in Boston gets detail OT (check)
Send out a press release. (check)

You'd think someone wrote down what they did last time.

Just like with the book, these are things which are done in advance EVERY year, and it's no more a jinx this year than it has been in years past, and both cities are doing it.

Menino should have said "No comment until the game is finished." End of story. He was an idiot to give the Giants such motivators.

You guys know the Globe is owned by the New York times, right?

Big deal.

If you're not confident that a 16-0 team...YOUR 16-0 team, is going to beat a 10-6 team with so much at stake, then I don't know what to tell you. As a fan you're going to get ahead of yourself, it's only natural. And if you choose not to, if you think "respecting the opponent and knowing you can lose" will soften the blow should the Patriots lose, then you're wrong. It wouldn't. So there's no point in the fans pretending to be modest. Giants fans sure as hell haven't been.

You know this thread reminds me of how so many fans become hypocrites when it THIER team that is doing it and its not so bad

When the Steelers were found to be booking rooms for the Super Bowl in 2004 before the AFCCG all fans in New England were up in arms over it and said this and that

Now that the shoe is on the other foot some of us turn the cheek?

Its a 2 way street folks - Being a fan of a team is great, being a hypocrite is not.

To be fair, the issue wasn't that the Steelers booked the rooms, the issue was that the PLAYERS (not the press) spoke about the Patriots being a speedbump on the way to the Super Bowl and about how their rooms were waiting for them. Now, personally that doesn't bother me either, but I still see a difference in a player saying something and the media.

Okay, so what did the Patriots do wrong here? Did they tell the Boston Globe to go ahead and begin publishing a book about them before the Super Bowl? In the Steelers' case, they were the ones booking the flights. Their players were talking about how great it will be to go to New Orleans (Kordell Stewart) before playing in the AFC championship.

I was going to say that you could reference the time Belichick used the Eagles' planned parade route as motivation, but that was a ploy on his part and nothing more. The Eagles didn't plan it themselves, the mayor of Philadelphia did. That, and these things pretty much have to be planned ahead of time since they often happen two days following the Super Bowl.

Now if you want to call out your fellow Pats fans like this (which by the way serves nothing to gain) about getting up in arms 3 years ago over the Eagles parade plans, go right ahead. But by a decision that was made by the Boston Globe? Doesn't apply.

While some of that is true it still irks me a bit when something bad is said about our team the fans in here go on a rampage,When something negative or anti-opponent is towards an opponent its no big deal to the same guys - Thats what irritates me about fans that are a bit too hypocritical and its a shame because in reality most fans do see a 2 way street but some fans are just idiots and must have everything go thier teams way

Does any of it really matter?
Are you honestly telling me a game has ever been decided because one team got so mad at what another team said that they decided to try harder?
If you buy the motivation idea (which I do not) can you really tell me that an NFL HC who led his team to a SB cannot motivate his team without someone on the other side giving him motivation? Its the same approach, same speech, same everythign with just another example sprinkled in.

I just find it incredulous that before SB XLII someone from the Giants is going to say "They planned a parade, lets beat them" and players are going to play better because stopping a parade is greater motivation than winning the biggest game of their lives.

Well, you'll never stop THAT. People always think their team is right, the other is wrong. To us Tom Brady is a total class act who always says the right things, to people who hate him he's "pompous". What the Giants fan see as confidence, we see as ****iness and vice-versa. It also has to do with the fact that we all have TWO weeks between games and we're going to dissect EVERYTHING the media throws our way while waiting for the game!

I don't consider any fan of the Patriots bigger than me which of course is O.K. cause many fans feel the same way but I guess I may be in the minority that its ok if your team or the media in the surrounding teams area does something stupid or says something dumb but its very uncool when another team reacts the same way against your team.

In other words if Brady said to the media that the Patriots would win 30-10 it would be viewed in this forum as 'cool and probably accurate' or 'I bet he is not off by alot with that prediction' - but when an opponent makes a guess on the final score in favor of his team then 'its more bulletin board material' - even though a Patriot would likely never be dumb enough to say it like Burress or Tisch did.

The problem the media is having is that their is zero chance that the Pats players or coaching staff is going to give them anything worthwhile to report, whereas the Giants most likely will. Actually, Plax gave some mild bb material.

Instead, the media will spin whatever they can get their hands on to continue the theme of the Pats being 'evil'.
They cheat, they run up the score, they're classless, now it's arrogance.

It's pathetic really, because the media is no longer responsible for truthful reporting.

The Pats are the team that really capitalized on the underdog role, and espousing the 'team first' mantra. Now the media is trying to flip the script on them, which is hilarious.
