Re: Who is going to the big game???

Stick with that 3.5 hour thing on super sunday and you'll be happy to get there in the second quarter.

That drive sucks. Been there. Done that. Not 3.5 hours.

Plus, one issue on that road and you're toast for hours. Do yourself a favor and leave early on Sunday.

I can vouch for this... I did that drive the morning of the Pats-AZ game in 04... there were rains the night before and they shut down the Joshua Tree Highway and I had to drive an extra 100 miles through Flagstaff and down to get to Phoenix. And the drive back the next day took close to 5 hours... that road is slow going a lot of the way.

Re: Who is going to the big game???

Deb -- on the parking, I hope I didn't steer you astray. When I posted that, scalpers were charging over $100 for parking passes on ebay, but the prices are going down. I think maybe it's getting out that passes are still available at face value through the host committee and scalpers and starting to panic. When all is said and done, people may be able to get parking for under face value. Still, better safe than sorry, I guess.

No problem. I am going to the game with my overwrought husband who would kill me if I did not have the pass in advance. I would rather pay too much, but have the pass in-hand than chance getting there and having to walk three miles (with him, no less). Could you post the website again for Patjew, with the understanding that he might want to wait to see if prices go down. I am computer illiterate and cannot find the previous thread.

I think alot of people look at the directions and think they generally go faster than mapquest estimates and so they knock time off. The problem with Vegas to Phoenix is that you go through stretches of one lane in each direction, so you really can only go as fast as the slowest traffic.

I hate that drive. If it were me and I didn't want to take chances, I'd probably give serious thought to leaving early and going the long way -- east on route 40 to Flagstaff and then south on 17 to Phoenix. It's many more miles, but it's major highway most of the way.

Re: Who is going to the big game???

Heading down with my cousin. We also booked months ago & got real cheap airfare & reasonable accomodations. Will be staying in Tempe near ASU (America's Best Value). Coming in on Friday, going to the FBR Open on Saturday, the game on Sunday, then golf on Monday & Tuesday (Eagle Mountain & Greyhawk Talon). Definately interested in hooking up with fellow fans. GO PATS!!! :rocker:

I've also heard that the FBR Open is crazy too...i think its known for being the loudest tournament on the tour, lot of drunken antics from what my buddies tell me...man, where the hell are they gonna fit all these people....so much stuff going on

Aren't there a bazillion hotels among Phoenix, Flagstaff, Mesa, Chandler, Flagstaff, etc. Everytime I've been there that's all you see. Not going :( ,just lurking on this one.

Re: Super Bowl Party Thread

From the New England Patriots Fan Club of Arizona:

Big Blue Collar Bash for Pats Fans

With all the Big Name celebrities appearing at Super Bowl Parties all across the valley, with the big buck admission fees, the New England Patriots Fan Club Of Arizona will be holding their own Super Bowl Week party, and admission is absolutely free, nada, zilch, zippo.

You won't see any Hollywood celebrities, any big name, non football, sports stars, or recording artists, but you will see thousands of Patriot fans, the real hard core, blue collar fans that, actually, know the names of the players, unlike the celebrities who will be headlining those other events.

And, there will be sports writers, radio stations, tv stations, former Patriot players, and even some of the executives of the Patriot's front office, there for the fans to talk with, mingle with, and collect photographs, or autographs, or just to discuss football, not which movie they might be appearing in next. And, a man named Kraft might make an appearance, as he has done before.

Patriot fans all across the nation are familiar with The Vine Tavern, on Indian School Road and 28ths Street in Phoenix, which has been the headquarters for the local fan club for nine seasons now and has been the site for three prior Patriot Super Bowl events, and two others when the Pats were in town to play the Cardinals.

These events have been attended by thousands of Pats fans that have made the club, and The Vine, gain national prominence as the place for Pats fans to be, in Phoenix.

The event will begin at 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 31st, and any, and all Patriot fans are welcome to attend. (Giant fans are, also, welcome) ADMISSION IS FREE, PARKING IS FREE. FOOD AND BEVERAGE ARE NOT.

Re: Super Bowl Party Thread

WEEI Super Saturday Party

$200 and it doesn't include food or drink? For $40 there's another party in this same location that night. Is there any reason this one is worthwhile? Has anyone attended it in prior Super Bowls?

=============
Tickets are $200 before the party and $250 at the door. Cash or credit card will be accepted online and at the door. There will be a cash bar, and buffet style food will be available for a small charge. The party will be 21 years of age and older, no exceptions. The party will take place in Scottsdale and will be going on at three bars right next to each other on the same street. n entire city block will be shut down for the party. The party will be from 1am-5pm Arizona time. There will be a live broadcast from 11am-3pm and a live band from 3-5pm. There will be many celebrities on hand for the party and the broadcast. Celebrities are in the process of being confirmed.

I've attended the WEEI party the last 4 SB's. They do have a pretty decent Buffet (it used to be included) . The Cheerleaders are there mingling as well as a lot of celebrities. I always have a great time. Ticket update. I spoke to a broker who is a friend. The brokers are paying those who have tickets $2000 to $2500 and marking them up from there. So if you see anything in this range go for it. Intersting is that he said he is getting better access from Giants season ticket holders selling because they had the whole stadium in the lottery versus slanting it to the club seat holders like we do. He said very few club seat holders are selling . They all want to go. Anybody else have an update please post.

Yes there are a bazillion hotels, but unfortunately there are a bazillion things going on that week! On top of the fact that it's SuperBowl week, you have the FBR Open and also AZ tourist season.

Re: Super Bowl Party Thread

How many people on here are going down there?

I was thinking about heading down for the weekend for the parties. :) Might also try to get a ticket from a scalper right before kickoff. Still kicking myself for not getting season tickets when I had the chance a few years back.

Re: Who is going to the big game???

there is a PATS fan club of PHX where they basically control this bar in Phoenix called THE VINE...but honestly, when I lived in AZ I watched a few regular season games there and it was PACKED....people there were great to talk w/ about NE sports but i cant imagine how ridiculous it will be on Sunday. For the most part I think you will be able to walk into any bar out there and see a ton of PATS fans...Im probably gonna check out the local paper called the NEW TIMES when I'm out there and see what bars give you the best happy hour...its has a complete listing of all the bars and their specials

McDuffy's in Tempe (lemme think.....Mill & 5th, or somewhere thereabouts) is consistently rated one of the best Sports Bars in the country, for good reason. I watched the Pats/Rams SB there, and had a great time. If I wasn't going to the game, that's probably where I'd watch it.

actually that McDuffey's is LONG GONE..owners sold it off a while back...i forget what it is now but its history...**** i used to go there at 9-10am for the early college football games and get a little early morning buzz going:rocker: ...like you said it was a great place to meet sports fans....i think the only McDuffey's going is out in N. Phoenix somewhere

Re: Who is going to the big game???

For what it's worth, ticket prices on ebay are dropping like a stone.

Re: Who is going to the big game???

I will be checking out Carmen Electra, Pamela Anderson, and Kim Kardashian at all the parties baby! FYI, all the parties are listed here: http://www.superbowlpartyhq.com

I guess this is a good place to mention that I moved out of Phoenix in 2004. I'm surprised to learn of it's demise.

Payton's Place somewhere around Chandler Blvd and 36th St. was another cool place to watch football in the Ahwatukee area.

Re: Who is going to the big game???

You can bring your whole crew out to Super 'Gate 08 and throw your own tailgate party. Can't promise any celebrities, but can tell you there will be lots of football fans out there celebrating the big game the way they do it best!

You can even stay there from Thurs-Monday, so no need to pay those outrageous hotel prices.

All the info's at Supergate08.com.

Or email me if you have any questions...
