Since so much of his analysis depends on conventional wisdom, and the Patriots have kind of made their business to be blowing conventional wisdom out of the water, I don't put much stock in this.

It's also worth noting that Green completely fails to mention Welker, only dropping his name once in passing. When the Jags figure out how to cover him, I might get kinda worried. An analysis of how to beat the Pats that doesn't even address stopping the passing attack beyond to say that the goal should be to keep them off the field is just ******ed.

The last two paragraphs are my favorite:

Now that sounds simple and there's much more Jacksonville will need to do to pull of this historic upset. And undoubtedly, Del Rio will have a great game plan because he is one of the best coaches in the NFL. There is only so much he can do though. To beat the best, you have to play your best. For Jacksonville, that means running the ball, establishing a good short-to-intermediate, high-percentage passing game, winning the turnover battle and having the advantage in the special teams. The Patriots have dominated teams with their talent and because they're intimidating. But Del Rio isn't easily intimidated and neither are the Jags.

So, yes, I guess I will continue to be unfazed by the Patriots' 16-0 record. And no, I am not a fan of the Jaguars or hater of the Patriots. A fan never thinks his team can lose, but no team is invincible. In the playoffs, it's one-and-done and anything can happen. Even Jacksonville beating New England.

He had to try really hard to talk himself into that one, but he managed to do it. Seriously, how can you outright pick a team while also acknowledging that the only way they can win is to have a better gameplan (against BB), play your absolute best, run the ball well, pass at a high percentage, win the turnover battle, AND do better on special teams? He makes the declaration that the Jags will win then justifies it with the same old, tired, "on any given Sunday, anything CAN happen" bull****. Once again, just another mediot hoping that he can strike gold by happening, through sheer, random chance, to predict the end to the Pats' perfection.

who cares have fun emailing him saturday night

if you don't like pats for any reason, you will pick another team to defeat pats. I'm not suprised.

We are going to find out in the next month or so that some people out there are simply dillusional. There will be all sorts of bold and wild predictions....deep theories about why we are going to lose. Brady in a playoff game in New England in 40 degree weather and we are going to lose? That=dillusional. Its a no lose situation for these writers. When we beat the Jaguars he can just say he had a "feeling" or something stupid. If for some reason they did beat us he can gloat until the day he retires. Sorry Jeremey, it aint happening this week....Patriots 35 Jaguars 10........MARK IT DOWN!! Then next week we can listen to all the reasons the Colts will beat us...and then the Cowboys...I cant wait to listen to everyone after we win it! Its going to be great

I believe he said the Jags would have a great game plan because Del Rio is a great coach.
At point I lost respect for his entire arguement. Del Rio couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag and is in fact one of the weaknesses of this team. That anybody would consider him in the same level of a Belichick is indicative of a person that is not operating in the reality based universe.

This is where I stopped reading, "Del Rio will have a great game plan because he is one of the best coaches in the NFL". Really? When was the last time he won the division? Oh yeah, never. Also, how many playoff games has he won? One and that was last weekend. In order to be considered among the best head coaches you have to win your division which consists of beating Indy. They haven't done that yet and Indy owns them. I understand that there really isn't anything to write about except how the Pats had a historical season. But this is ridiculous. Green is talking about a team that is 16-0 and thinks that they will lay an egg at home in their first game to Jacksonville. Does Jacksonville have a chance? Of course, upsets are bound to happen. But you are a fool if you really think Jacksonville is going to win the game. With that said, deep down Green knows the Pats will win. They write this stuff to keep "us" readers interested.

I don't think he is a pat hater. http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insi...lumns/story?columnist=green_jeremy&id=3017731

But he predicted Carolina would beat Colts.

Steelers would beat NE

Vikings would go to the SB.

The one correct prediction I do remember him making is that the Pats would lose to Denver in the playoffs in 2005. I only remember that because he was hosting ESPN's gametime chat and I was ready to roast him pretty hard, but never got a chance. The nonsensical bull**** picks far outweigh the occasional hits though.

Part of me has to wonder how he feels about Randy Moss, given that he's Denny Green's son, and whether or not that had anything to do with his pick. After all, some people think Moss, directly or indirectly, got Green fired.

it's becoming fashionable to pick jags over pats in the media. wiley on espn did same thing. you'd think they went 16 & 0, had a week off and were at home.

geesh

The team he fails to mention is the Steelers. A team that likes to run the ball and has a good, solid QB (with a QB rating of 104). Big and physical on defense. The Steelers are the Jaguars with the exception of a better pass defense. How did the Steelers game with the Pats go? Yes, just like that!

He claims he's neutral but...

He also points out that he was hoping for bad weather to help the Jags. If you were neutral, you wouldn't care about the weather.

You know he has to pick the Jags here. He said it before, now what is going to do, back off his prediction?

I bet his ESPN.com editors had him write this.

Bingo. (10 char)

And Jayson Stark picked the Colorado Rockies over the Red Sox in six games. Next.

This is how important Jeremy Green is..... who the hell is he?

Before he got a job with ESPN he use to write the headlines for the Chicago Daily Tribune. He got fired in November 1948 over a small gaff.

Picking the Pats doesn't gain much attention.
Good for him.

"The Patriots played in the dismal AFC East" Jags played one more
playoff team than the Pats

"teams that can run the ball don't get blown out" - teams that can't
stop the pass do

"New England won't be able to run on Jacksonville." - see Pittsburg game, don't need to

"Del Rio will have a great game plan because he is one of the best
coaches in the NFL." - He is?
