Re: Spicer's comments on Pats/camergate

That story is really trashy, they need to take it down. This is why Jacksonville hates the media. They did this with Fred Taylor over his completely harmless (and playful) remarks about the field at Heinz, and now they do it with this. Why don't we bring up the fact that Paul Spicer has a local radio show, and is tasked with forming and giving his opinion on these type of topics? Why don't we put more emphasis on the fact that this took place when the Patriots were 1-0 and the spygate topic was something people actually cared about? Why didn't they directly ask him if he thought the Pats earned the right to play in the playoffs? Answer: Because that was reachy, fabricated trash and needs to be re-thought and taken down. I'm a writer myself, but I would never reach for a story like that. That is not genuine and is the definition of trying to push an agenda. And if you don't think writers have an agenda, you've never been in the business. They do.

Re: Bingo!!! Spicer wins!!!

I really don't see what was wrong with what he said. Like he just said, you still have to go out their and tackle, and catch the ball and so on. Looks like he's ready to go as will the Jaguars and of course the Pats always seem ready.

You don't want something to come back and bite you--don't do it. Watch the video, he had every oppurtunity to recant and didn't. The guy doing the interview almost tried to guide him into recanting, he didn't. His fault he's an idiot. A hell of a lot players said nothing. Including all of the players on our biggest rival (Colts), he should have followed suit.

Re: Spicer's comments on Pats/camergate

Holding is a violation of the rules. Is it cheating? The media brought up Spicer and the genius put himself on national TV this morning to say it again.

what do you expect him to do? make a U-turn on his comments and look like an idiot?

Anthony Smith is an idiot for guaranteeing something they couldnt deliver...however all Spicer is pretty much stating facts and offering an opinion...why the big deal?

Im not from Jacksonville and never been to the States let alone Jacksonville..But i did just browse through the thread briefly..just sick of the media trying to make a story out of a non issue.

You're right HJF...It's foolish for Patriots fans to be "looking" for bulletin board fodder. It's almost like some are giddy just looking for some...I just don't get it. Like we actually have some role in passing on BB material.

Like a bunch of little kids hoping to tell their big brother something that will get him to beat up another kid:rolleyes:

As noted on other threads he was the first jag to pop off the mouth.

Re: Bingo!!! Spicer wins!!!

"I just assumed you talk about your own team."

"You don't talk about our team. He has no business talking about our team. He's not our coach. We'll let our coach talk about our team. We'll let our players talk about our team. The only thing we ever do is give respect to the other teams because that's what they deserve."

~Tom Brady, regarding San Diego's head coach Marty Schottenheimer's post game remarks about the Patriots, after a loss at Gillette Stadium

Re: Spicer's comments on Pats/camergate

Again, correct me if I'm wrong (which I am), but I have the understanding that cheating can be seen as violation of the rules. In fact, the dictionary even agrees with that pretty basic definition. And since dear ole' Bill got fined for something, and being that fines are typically handed out when an individual violates an understanding of a rule - of what is right and wrong, then could you see where my misplaced and confused mind may have not seen that "difference"?

Until BB writes the final and definitive memoir on this incident we can only speculate. Our speculation is that BB felt that the league rule against taping from the sidelines was stupid because everyone just did it from other locations. He was wrong in that his "arrogant" interpretation was seized on by a "New Sheriff in Town" to prove to the (mostly Black..see "Free Micheal Vick T-shirt incident" for coroberation) players that season long suspensions for rule violations was not a form of racial discrimination and the stiff new punishments applied to *everyone* including *White* HOF coaches..see!

The punishment far outstripping the crime for tangential reasons excited the media. Goodell's further destruction of the tapes the pats turned over fed the fires (even tho he did it at leasts in part to cover his own ass because the initial game tape was leaked to Fox, the network his *wife* works for.)

Once the witchhunt had begun, every team/coach/player who had ever been defeated by BB felt safe to air completely unwarrented calumnies (that means lies) about how underhanded BB and the Pats were and that everything they had achieved through their own hard work was now subject to an asterisk.

That is when we started compiling "the List". The List of pygmies, liers, and shadow-hugging rats who would never dare to openly try to defame the Pats but now like a pack of hyenas tried to bring down a Lion. Bad news for them: the Lion not only lived but became much stronger.

Spicer is on the List...he and his team will pay. So it is written. So shall it be done.

I agree that some members of the media do have agendas, and they like to hype up nonsense and take things out of context.

But this is why players have to be smart about what they say. The Patriots never say anything that can be construed as disrespectful before they play an opponent. Yes they trash talk and make their comments during and after games but never beforehand. They know firsthand how these comments can be used as motivation.

I'm sure that Spicer's coach and his teammates are annoyed that he didn't lay low with this right now. You don't need this as a stroyline on Sportscenter.

Re: Spicer's comments on Pats/camergate

It would have been better if Spicer just left it alone and didn't put himself out there again. Why feed the media? It doesn't take much to get them started. He'll be sorry he opened his mouth when his teammates have to answer the same question all week long. The media is going to dig and dig until they find the quote that they are looking for. He should have left it alone, IMO.

Well said. It didn't work out well for the Chargers when they came here.

Better yet, the Jags should just learn to STFU!

Re: Spicer's comments on Pats/camergate

So he says he stands by his words. Then he says "It doesn't really matter (Spygate) ... What matters is getting out there and playing football. It still comes down to catching the football, tackling, blocking."
His comments earlier in the year were. "Do like the NCAA and kick them out of the playoffs or something, put them on probation; they can't go to no playoff games. Roger Goodell has definitely enforced some new rules. He's been hard on players. Now let's see how hard he's going to be with a team."
"This ain't news. I've heard it in the past. They finally got caught. The Patriots got caught. They're busted,"

Now if Spygate really doesn't matter and it all comes down to getting out there and playing football then WTF was all that garbage about them being banned from the playoffs and being put on probation? Which one is it really Spicer? Either it matters and they should have been banned from the playoffs or it doesn't matter and you should have STFU.

Re: Spicer's comments on Pats/camergate

Ultimately Spicers comment won't play much of a role in this game. There is allready bad blod between the 2 teams steming from Ingrams spearing last year and Del Rios punk ass coments afterwards. IMO those trump anything Spicer said.

This wasn't just "Pats fans looking for" it, this was an article in the Boston Herald. No one had to dig deep and make it up, it was right in Mondays sports section. To me that makes it more than legit enough to talk about but, hey, you didn't have to read it, it says right in the thread's title what it's all about.

Ah yes, I almost forgot about Del Rio's comment about spearing Brady. And then followed by one of my favorite Belichick comments ever:

"Considering Tom's great games over the years against Jack Del Rio's defenses, you can understand the frustration ... I'm all for supporting your players, but it was a little surprising to hear he said that."

Spicer's EXACT words:

""Do like the NCAA and kick them out of the playoffs or something, put them on probation; they can't go to no playoff games. Roger Goodell has definitely enforced some new rules. He's been hard on players. Now let's see how hard he's going to be with a team."

If you believe that's nothing, you have some reading comprehension problems. It matters not whether he said it 2 days after Spygate or 4 months later. These are the words he spoke.

If you saw the look on his face this morning when he was interviewed on ESPN (silly wabbit, thought it was going to be all about the victory over Pittsburgh - - in his defense, he WAS blindsided by it) - - he looked like he was about to throw up when he heard back his words from September. The realization on his face was classic.
