Garo Yepremian not impressed

The Dolphins weren't the first. I hate to break the news to Garo, who probably didn't major in history. He didn't major in broken play-making in a SB either.

There's a guy who should still be praying to the football gods, thanking them for bailing him out of potentially the biggest bonehead mistake of any SB.

What a loser.

People won't remember this? Right. It may be the second undefeated season but it's the first 16-0 ever. So shut it.

Also, in the case of racing's Triple Crown, people remember many more than the first one to do it, even though it's rare. I bet most people can't even offhandedly remember the first Triple Crown winner.

you are dead on.......In addition, what we accomplished in this era of professional football...where the players are a million times faster, more skilled and athletic, and on and on compared to what was going on in 1972....it is really apples and oranges...Garo should just sit there in his rocking chair and reflect on his past accomplishments all those years ago....because it is OVER now....there are NEW kings in town!!!...What the NE Patriots have done this year is really something AMAZING and special.....The Patriots are the NEW OWNERS of the perfect season!!!! ...GO PATS!!!!

Yepremian : "We were the first ones to climb Mount Everest,"

oOOPS , NEEDS TO BE MERGED ... Thanks moderator.

1972 Dolphins stay classy after Pats finish perfect season: "We were the first ones to climb Mount Everest....they can be the second ones. But you usually don't remember No. 2."

SOURCE and Quote :

"We were the first ones to climb Mount Everest," Yepremian said late Saturday. "If New England comes and does it, then they can be the second ones. But you usually don't remember No. 2. I remember Sir Edmund Hillary was the first one to climb Mount Everest. I don't remember who did it the second time. Do you?"

My answer to this guy :

The '72 Dolphins' "Everest" was a slightly smaller mountain then the one the Patriots are trying to scale...

Re: Yepremian : "We were the first ones to climb Mount Everest,"

Some of those guys really need to get over themselves.

I keek a touchdown!!!

It's like the 72 Dolphins climbed the highest mountain at the time, but then a higher and harder mountain was found, and the Pats climbed it.

Anyone looking for grace and class should look to Hank Aaron. He recorded a congratulations message for Bonds when Bonds broke his record, even though we all know Bonds cheated his butt off.

Jeez, what is it with these guys? What our team did last night takes nothing away from what the Dolphins did in 72. It really doesn't. Why can't they see that? They are still a special part of NFL history and they always will be. Now it's our turn.

Exactly. It's an elite status, something to be shared. Miami will always have their record.

I guess for some, it's all they really have. And after all these years, they have to share... like a little kid in the sandbox, they just don't wanna share something they've had for so long.

"But my heart is dead set against it. The '72 team is uniquely immortal in American sports and I don't want us to lose that special place."
Holy crap. That's just amazing. I can't even express how ridiculous that is.

It's irrational posessiveness.

Exactly.

In sports, all records can be matched or bettered. Some records may never be matched or bettered, but it's irrational to wish that some records stay preserved for all time.

I bet he had to Google who the first to climb Everest was. I would be willing to bet very few people knew that before he said it.

In a world where a lot of people are hazy as to what happened on December 7, 1941, you might win that bet.

But it's a sad commentary on modern education.

That said, I don't recall the name of the person who REALLY climbed Everest first, namely Hillary's sherpa.

But I do recall Hillary's famous quote, namely the answer he gave as to WHY he climbed Everest. Do you?

Because it was there?

The Doofins should get over themselves already. They're just sour because they didn't get to pop that bottle of champagne. You know what, when the Pats win the Superbowl, they should pop the bottle and celebrate the new Champs!

I like what someone named Schlankae wrote in the ESPN comments section after the article:

"Garo, you were the first to scale Mt Mckinley (14-0). The Pats were the first to scale Mt Everest (16-0)."

BTW, everytime Nick Buoniconti wants to whine about how his '72 team is badly "portrayed" as grumpy old men in the media, someone should just shove Yepremian's and Morris' quotes in front of him and tell Nick to STFU or else have him tell THEM to do so.

The media needs to stop embarrassing the '72 Phins. The air up on that mountain has obviously fried their brains!

Re: Garo Yepremian needs to grow up

The entire 72 dolphins should be ashamed of their graceless and classless behavior.

A true champion is not threatened by others who achieve greatness.

They have embarrassed themselves and now they will be rememebered as grouchy classless old men, who don't have the brains or self confidence to sincerely recognize other teams for amazing feets.

KARMA is a B-TCH and if there is Karma the 72 dolphins record will be blemished in the publics mind by their immature behavior.

By the way...2007 Patriots in their prime versus 1972 dolphins in their prime...who wins??? LOL

I was out getting subway sammiches, but the wife said one of the ESPN guys has already started the "Mercury Morris should just get over it" rumblings.

Actually Garo, your team was third. There were two Bears teams who climbed the mountain ahead of you. Or is it more convenient to forget that?
