Raining Snowballs

Jets fans and their "show us your ....." crew call Patriots fans classless, and vice versa. I would think that people would figure out that most fan bases are a mixed group by now, but I guess not. I'm sure that different regions have different percentages, but there are no fan bases without 'sin'.

True, no fan base is without sin, but we can do something about this sin of throwing ice balls at opposing teams. That's truly low. If you want to see the Pats take a dive from bad karma build-up, then do stupid stuff like throwing crap at games. That'll bring the team down in a hurry. Guaranteed.

Mangini's a rat. An ungrateful, back-stabbing, sneaky little wonk. He'll pay on the field, where it COUNTS, as long as we stay on the up and up. The minute we go down to his level, we lose. Maybe not yesterday -- we did get by that one, but it was touch and go for a long time -- but eventually we will be dragged down if we do what they do.

The Pats are better than that, and the fans should be, too.

Original?? throwing ice balls is original? pretty lame if you ask me...being a loud and cheering fan does NOT have anything to do with throwing snow or ice..THAT shows no brains and hardly a real fan...you can join danny in the toddlers room...

Did anyone get hurt (other than their feelings or pride)? Didn't think so...

Huh? Have you even read the boards the past twelve hours? I heard of a girl walking with food who was pelted in the head and fell. There were others, also.

No one got hurt when that idiot in California tried to repeatedly shoot his lawyer on that notorious video from 10 feet and completely missed either.

Still a crime.

The folks who threw the snow/iceballs yesterday should have their pictures printed in the newspapers and then sent to their employers. Who will probably have a talk with them (and a pink slip) when they come back from jail.

That presupposes they have jobs, Shmess..heh

See, I don't see what the big deal is. First people are complaining that the fans sit on their hands the whole game...Now people are complaining that the fans are too rowdy.

Make up your mind!

It's not a case of "make up your mind" oldskool. When we say we need to get off our hands and make some noise to support our team, we're talking about being good fans.

Anyone who throws a water soaked iceball can NOT be a good fan. Hopefully you can see we're talking about the difference between being a good fan and a fan who doesn't deserve ticket rights.

You're obviously one of the latter. :D

It was literally raining snowballs.

You could not tell this on TV at all. I was wondering about the stoppage too. The only time they showed snow flying was after the two touchdowns, when it appeared to be going straight up, not onto the field.

Count me among those who would have been p'o'd if snow balls were thrown at me. I couldn't go to the game yesterday, but my seats are in a covered area, so we don't get much snow. I had to scrounge around at that Miami game a few years back to get some to throw in the air!

Did they ask over the PA system for the snow throwing to stop? They should have done that and threatened to eject anyone caught throwing snowballs at the field or other people.

If you heard Gil and Gino calling the game -- which I highly recommend in lieu of listening to some of these network air-heads -- they reported the cascading of snow and ice balls almost as if it were the Miami game a few years back, but this time being hard-pack icy snow AND that it was being directed *at other people*. Both Gil and Gino were rightly disgusted by the whole affair, and said so.

Even over internet radio I could hear the ref making the announcement: "The game will be halted until the throwing of objects onto the field and bench areas ceases." There was a pause of about 90 seconds, and they made another appeal to stop the stupidity.

The Pats were darn lucky not to get a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike. The fools who engaged in that spoiled child behavior are lucky they didn't get hauled out and booked. If anyone wants "football" thuggery and goons, let 'em come over here to Europe. There's plenty of that crap going on. A bunch of guys from Manchester Utd. just got beaten to blood by the infamous thugs at the Rome soccer stadium; don't worry, the favors are returned when the Italians go to England, I'm sure. Bleh-h (Two thumbs DOWN). Only the latest of a long history. Sucksville. We ABSOLUTELY do NOT need that in the USA.

When the Jets walked off the field at the end of the first half they were absolutely pelted with snowballs which is dumb because i guarantee mostly cops and security got hit. I wish people would focus more on making noise because while the crowd noise was good yesterday it still could have been better.

And what better way to fire up a team and incite them toward taking a cheap shot than to cheap shot them with ice balls??!!

A pissed Jets/ other opponent goes after Brady's legs. Not a good trade-off. Dumb, stupid thing to do.

I was at the game and got pelted with small fragments of snow that fans were throwing up in the air to celebrate. Fine, no problem.

To those cretins (apologies to Pats fans in Crete) who threw snowballs/iceballs onto the field at players or coaches, find another place to drink and find another team to root for; you're a disgrace. No excuse for that sophomoric behaviour. Pats coulda gotten a 15 yd penalty or at the extreme, our buddy Goodell coulda dictated a forefeit.

Nice job making Pats fans look like drunken idiots on national TV.

It's good to see the consensus on this thread regarding the nitwits throwing snowballs. Throwing snow up in the air in celebration in 2003 against Miami was an incredible sight. Snowballs or ice balls thrown at others by alcohol-fueled cowards is something else altogether. I agree with many posters that justice will be served if the team can accurately identify those responsible and make sure they never attend another game. While I'm sure it was a minority, enough of it was going on to cause the game to be stopped.

There are many passionate fans who would love to have tickets to attend games without having the intent to injure others.

Yeah I think it is an awesome NE tradition to throw snow up in the air after a big play but throwing hudnreds of ice balls into the air is another thing

Actually, they did not show the problems on national tv. The penalty or forfeit thing was a real threat, however. Shame on those idiots who could have put our team in jeopardy. It seems like the refs showed a lot of restraint.

The media is somewhat to blame, however. They hyped up the fans with their endless talk of spygate and the Pats' hatred of the Jets. It was right there in shining glory as they painstakingly followed BB onto the field after the game for the big handshake. I'm glad he stuck it to them again as only BB can.

I was in the second deck and got hit many times in the back with snowballs yesterday, especially early in the game. Some of those were yahoos from the third deck, why would they think they could reach the field? The rest were from further back in the second deck and were probably directed at the two Jets fans in full regalia 3 rows in front of me :)

But none of them hurt. They were NOT "ice balls" the way most people think of them. The snow didn't pack very hard.

Which doesn't excuse people, that was stupid and some in my section were throwing them down onto the first level, one got stopped by security and had his ticket checked.

Security came up and warned the kid next to us 3 times to stop throwing snowballs. We're 2 rows from the top and he's trying to hit the field. Then he started randomly throwing them at people in our section. He nailed a girl coming up the stairs with food in the side of the head, nearly knocked her down the stairs.

In that case, I WOULD have escorted his butt out myself, along with any parent that was with him.

Glad the problems weren't shown on TV. Truth be told I did NOT see snowballs thrown onto the field as I sit behind the Pats bench and nobody was throwing at our D.

I was slightly dissapointed that there wasn't more of a carnival fun atmosphere at the game. One guy had a great Rats head costume, and another a construction helmut with a camera attached, but that was IT from all the people I saw. I blame the really bad weather.

It's too bad people couldn't just enjoy the opportunity to try to recreate the Miami atmosphere with the snow tossing. I did, albeit a little slushier than it was at that game. But there are always a--holes in the crowd and snowballs are bound to fly. My buddies and I looked at it as an opportunity for a seat upgrade. ;) We hope those folks in the lower bowl closer to mid-field all get pinched! Throwing them on the field is bad enough but targeting the cops, security and cheerleaders is a chicken$h!t move.

I don't understand, however, this notion that somehow N.E./Boston fans are "above" such antics. We (in general) don't throw batteries but other than that I wasn't surprised to see the snowballs fly. Tanguay and Gresh seemed shocked that "we" would do such a thing. I expected it once I saw what a crappy job of snow removal they did. My brother said that up in the 300's it was almost a slide coming down the stairs with the snow packed down. If it was 5* cooler it would have been a nightmare.

That said, I'm not above finding humor in Mangina getting pelted if he did. Well, maybe I am, but it's close.

Write to the Pats...

I am glad that almost all but the toddlers agree that throwing snowballs ice balls at players on the field refs etc..IS a total disgrace..
IF people KNOW first hand of people throwing them..like the guy who supposedly threw it at EM..I would write/call the Pats..tell them EXACTLY where u sat..what you saw...etc..so that though the security film IT can be seen EXACTLY where this was done..that way, the REAL perps will be caught and MAYBE the Krafts might take action...
IF people who dare do it KNOW that other fans will report them..this would happen a LOT less...
