Anybody listening to Dale and Holley?

Good thing I don't listen to the radio broadcast then. They should get another ex-player. Ted Johnson maybe or Tippett, Grogan...There are plenty of other color guys you could get besides that squeaky-voiced goober.

Gino is the color guy - Gil is the play by play. That job doesn't go to the former player types, it goes to a broadcast professional. I know some of the youngsters here get frustrated with his detail miscues lately, but his call of XXXVI is a classic - which is why they used it for all the DVD's as opposed to the deadpan Pat Summerall call on the broadcast.

Dale hasn't quite got the pipes for football play by play by those standards, but you could do worse. DeOssie would actually make a great color analyst along side whomever replaces Gil when Gino finally (and these days almost mercifully) hangs 'em up.

As for the original thread topic, I'm not cutting Ratgenius any slack, but I have no doubt he had no concept of what a Pandora's box he opened when he gave the OK to call in the Feds (NFL Security). But that's what happens when you cavalierly backstab your mentor while working for his obcessively jealous nemisis and almost former employer at the Meadowlands. It's the ultimate proof that Eric wasn't ready for the big stage and his inflated ballboy ego would ultimately result in his own demise on it.

Didn't the pats take a jets camerman off of our sideline last year? Maybe they were just returning the favor, but the NFL security got involved. I thought I heard this somewhere. Either way, what's done is done, but I don't think Mangini meant for all this to happen. Still hope the pats beat them by 80 this weekend tho.

what ticks me off to no end with these two dopes is that everytime they bring someone else on to discuss spygate, then that person repeats the term "cheating"---they NEVER CALL HIM OUT ON IT!!

If the commish himself said no competitive advantage was gained, how is it cheating??

But whatever, WEEI is a dopey sports radio station that I only listen to because there is no alternative. Full of morons from sun up to sun down and beyond.

holley keeps saying "its my understanding the jets were caught in gillette last yr" but somehow doesnt seem to make a big deal about it. i was even in the foxsports.com column by john czarnecki.

OK so what did he think would happen? The guy frickin coaches in New York City. He HAD to know how the media would react.

I dont think he is smart/experienced enough as a HC to have thought it all the way through.

Hmm, it says something I think that you didn't know Gil Santos does play-by-play, not color. And has for practically forever, except for a few years in the late 80s when WBZ lost the games (to WHDH I think) and Dale Arnold did play by play with Gino doing color.

Don't fall for Holley's bull$hi#. The Jets intentionally manipulated the press to fan the flames of scandal and put maximum pressure on his mentor. IMO this was an attempt to force BB's termination or resignation. The grand plan, concocted in the offseason, was to force BB out as a way of elevating the Jets and bringing down the Pats. They failed. ...

The insanely jealous New York media (serving their equally jealous fan base) will hunt down any hint or morsel of truth which can be used to discredit any Boston team or player at this point. Don't be surprised if the origins of the banner-flying plane yesterday hovering over Gillette Stadium came from the New York City area!

Yes, the Pats *did* have a Jets cameraman removed from the sidelines in Foxborough last season, and Mangini was trying to do the same.

When the kid doing the taping raised a fuss, NFL security took over for the Meadowlands' security, and once it was out there, well, the rest is history.

Mangini makes a nice scapegoat, but the people really culpable for Spygate becoming what it is are Goodell, for his "getting tough on bad character" PR campaign, and ESPN, for doing everything in their power to not only hype the issue, but seemingly to purposefully confuse people on many distinctions so as to make the scandal seem bigger.

I think what holley said is kind of true. Mangina wanted to give BB a nice little EFF U. I don't think he had any idea what it would turn into a national contraversy and that people would be saying the stuff they are based on that. I think he wouldnt have done it if he knew how it would turn out.

mangini is stupid and his lack of emotional control causes him to eat waaaay too much. he's a perfect ift for the misfit jets.

Holley is the one NE sports radio personality who actually puts thought and credibility into what he spews. not to mention he speaks from a position of strength when talking about the Pats, he knows the personalities and so forth. Does that possibly take away his objectivity? Yes. But his stance makes sense and is an understandable one to take..you guys just have to not be sensitive about any comment that isn't pro pats.

I absolutely believe, based on some second hand information passed on to me from a source (yeah I know sounds like BS) that Mangini's intention was not to get Belichick in trouble with the league it was just to play mind games with him and try to cause a distraction during the game.

Then the NFL officials got involved and the Jets organization took it and ran with it and Mangini got screwed in the process.

I hate the Jets and all but Mangini is too smart to have done something like this without knowing what it would do to his reptutation amongst coaches in the league. He's in a precarious situation now because other coaches would have to feel worried about bringing a guy on who might learn some dark secret and narc on you.

But yeah I agree with Holley on this one. I don't really care though, I'm glad that Mangini did it because there's no doubt in my mind that the season we have witnessed was fueled in large part from the ensuing fallout over the whole camera thing.

A good friend of mine is married to one of the two guys who head up security at Giants Stadium. He says that the tape that was confiscated was sent to the NFL by their decision, not the Jets FO. There was no other way to settle the dispute because neither party was going to give it up.

Obviously the Jets had to send someone to confront the cameraman, but the tape was not sent at their request.

I know I'll get flammed, but I dont think Holley is too far off. i think there is some truth to what he is saying. I dont think The rat thought it would get out of control like it did.
I agree. Stupidity, however, is no excuse for what happened. Given the media backlash and the haunting Mangini is going through this week with Spygate redux, he probably wishes he had the opportunity to do it differently.

Not being the brightest bulb has challenged boy Eric, and it's going to have a long-term effect on his career, as it's unlikely he'll the the HC of the NYJs for life. At some point, he's going to need a job. Maybe he should consider security guard.

I find this scenario very likely. The point is that a "hey, put that camera away and leave the premises" would have sufficed at the time. Bet he wishes he had a "do over."

Didn't someone on the Big Show have a similar theory when all this nonsense started? That Tannenbaum was more likely to have been responsible and he and Pioli had issues going back?
