The official “I eventually muted the game” Roll Call

I just had to.

NEVER have I ever muted a telecast, as being OCD as I am I need to have some sound going on when watching the game.

But my God, it was as if I was listening to a Baltimore broadcast.

Didn't put it back on until we regained the lead for obvious reasons.

Did anyone else hear Jaws let out an orgasmic noise when Boller threw the TD pass late in the game? WTF was that, he's supposed to be the objective one.

I didn't hear it because I had the sound off!

I wish games had alternate audio that just broadcast the sounds of the game, without announcers. Man, would that be great or what?

Wife trying to sleep complained of noise and given that Korn was yapping inanities and I knew that the Pats-hating senile old coot Shula would be featured I eschewed earphones and shut the sound off start of 3rd QTR. Unfortunately, baseball trade graphics and antics of the booth fools filled the video screen instead of the play on the field. Sign me up for an optional audio channel with just the stadium noise. Never happen though because no advts.

Last night was the first time I've muted a broadcast, too. It was just too much to handle.

I believe this feature is not too far away as TV becomes more interactive.

Trust me. People wil pay for crowd noise with booth silence. It's like we now pay to throw away trash. Also, I'm told that people pay extra to not have an automatic transmission on a Corvette.

It would be nice, but you'll never see that happen. Then you wouldn't have to hear all the plugs for the Amazing Race/24/House/American Idol/Without a Trace/Cold Case/CSI/etc. etc. etc.

The only reason ESPN has this booth is to promote these personalities so that you will watch/listen to them elsewhere. It's essentially a commercial. They don't care how bad they are, or for their quality in any respect. All they care about is the ratings they get for their other shows.

It's an unfortunate reality, but that's what we are dealing with.

I'm totally with you. If it's not Simms & Nantz or maybe Deirdorf and whoever's with him, I'm probably going to be disappointed. Heck, I'd turn on the radio, but there's the delay.

That's a fantastic point.

Bahaha.

Had he been in the end zone, then such a orgasmic groan might have been appropriate, but he was clearly 2 yards short and surrounded by Patriots jerseys, really overreacted.

Nope. No way, they pay 1.1 BILLION dollars a year for the NFL games. It makes no sense what you say, their ad rates for the games are higher than for any other show on the network. Of course they care about ratings...

The NFL knows ESPN can't live without the NFL, but NBC can take it or leave it, which is why ESPN is paying twice as much a year than NBC but gets many more crappy games. If you have a lousy game, you need to make the announcing team and the guests in the booth hold onto people, most especially the casual viewers. That's why the booth is what it is.

Regarding ratings: Pats-Ravens is now the highest rated cable TV show ever.

Ever.

EVER.

Apparently the announcers didn't drive too many away, eh?
