I was pissed last night when the news broke about Adam. I admit I contributed threads that beat down on Adam like a cheap mexican pinata.

However, I have since thought about all of the Adam, Willie, Givens, moments of playoff glory and Superbowl victories that they have contributed to, each play laying everything out on the line for us (the fans) of the New England Patriots.

These guys deserve EVERYTHING they are getting with their new teams and I really wish them the best. It sucks that they aren't Pats anymore, but I really believe that they all have a place in their heart for the Pats organization, and us, the fans.

As I said in a thread last night - Seeing McGinn go to Romeo at his age, and at those $$ made some sense to most of us. - Seeing Givens get cash rained upon him with the Titans after all of the extra hard work that he has done to become the best 7th round pick WR in the NFL almost made me smile just for him personally. However, with Adam I initially felt that this move to the Colts made no sense.

The bottom line is, Adam has always seemed like a stand-up guy that works hard to be good at what he does. He was liked by every player and coach on our team, and was loved in the community of New England. He has simply made a life decision that in the end was what he thought would be best for him.

Maybe it was the idea of kicking indoors in a dome? Maybe it was the prestige of becoming the highest paid kicker in NFL history? Maybe he thought that the Colts have a better chance in the near future of being Superbowl champs? (ok, I just vomitted in my mouth). In the end, it doesn't matter what reason(s) there were. He gave us everything when he was here, and for that we need to respect him and his decision.

Let's put it this way. Think of the biggest competitor that the company you work for has. Now imagine that competitor that you have always culturally despised and worked hard to beat each year in the market you are in, offers you a deal that blows what you are now working for out of the water. Plus, they treat you like royalty and promise you everything you have always wanted (corner office etc...). Plus, after looking at this new offer, you come to the realization that you probably could work less hours per week and less hard in general at your job and be the best in the industry at the same time!

Who in their right mind would turn that down?!?!

Excellent Post!!
We need to be grateful for the heros of the Past.
Simply fact is this is behind us now.
We must pick up the pieces and move on.

RyeMan, I couldn't have said it any better myself...............

The NFL is no longer just a game..........it's a business now. Just the reality of it all......................

It does make a difference WHO they sign with. I realize that these guys are professional football players and have a short time to make their money. I understand that Free Agency and the cap has made the sports world different.

No problem with Willie. No problem with David. Big problem with Adam because he just went to a team that most of us hate.

That's the difference.

Why should players care what team posters hate?

I hate Miami. I don't expect bb to care.

BTW, anyone know if we'll get compensatory draft picks for these FA's we're losing? Maybe AV will rate a 3rd rounder.

Depends on what FAs the Pats sign in return. But in short, yes.
