PATRIOT64 has been pretty ridiculous lately. First he bashes Charlie Weis for a terrible thing such as wanting to improve as a coach, and now this crap.

:bricks:

Re: Maroney "If it comes to running the ball and I don't do anything, talk about me"

unleash maroney this sunday!!

Unleash what? A guy that has a season long run of 19 yards on almost 100 carries against defenses that are designed to stop the pass? I don't know what else he has to do to prove to you people that he is just not capable of being "unleashed" and dominating a game. He is A-V-E-R-A-G-E. As Parcells used to say, you are what you are. He is a 10-15 carry, 4.3-4.7 ypc, 50-60 yard, MEDIOCRE, running back playing on the greatest offense in NFL history DESPITE OF HIM. The only reason people think this kid is "special" is because he was a 1st rd pick. Drew Bledsoe used to be defended non-stop in this town because people thought he was something special because he was the #1 overall pick. Maroney is a BUST. I hate to beat a dead horse, but the truth hurts. He is nothing special and will never be anything special. If he doesn't like the media and fans getting on him, than too bad. Maybe he should do something SPECIAL with his 10-15 carries a game and shut us up. Obviously, he is not capable of doing it because he is what he is...........an overhyped, average running back. End of story.

And another thing. Great running backs have GREAT vision. Maroney's vision is TERRIBLE, thus the reason he has a long of 19 yards this year on almost 100 carries. He has the speed and size to break long runs, but he lacks GREAT vision. That's why he is AVERAGE. You can't teach vision. You either have it or you don't. This isn't college where this guy is faster than everyone else on the field a la William Green when he was at Boston College. This is the pros. William Green flamed out in Cleveland and so will Maroney in New England. Wake up and open your eyes people.

Your two posts are so ******ed on so many fronts. I am not a huge Maroney fan either, but these are just plain stupid to call Maroney a bust in his 2nd year in the NFL. By your definition, Priest Homes, Larry Johnson, Steven Jackson, Tiki Barber, were all busts becasue they had very poor starts to their NFL career. Thanks for pointing that out.

last time i checked, gettnig 4 yds a carry is a VERY GOOD THING....now all of a sudden hes getting 4.6 and thats average?

my thoughts

Running backs on avg. have 4 year careers. L.M. had a good year last year, we know he can do it...

BB has a QB with 38TDs and 4Ints......why bother with the running game? Then some will say, well then why are they using Heath and Eckel? Well, cause those 2 are more expendible than L.M.

Running backs are like glass, why push one into early retirement or release, earlier than necessary....?

Re: Maroney tells critics "I'll come through when the 10-0 Patriots need me"

I don't know if I would call it nothing - When you see a Patriots player get criticized this year from the media its definately noteworthy IMO - The only person on the Patriots truly getting criticized all year is BB,Now the critics have to make it more interesting with players.

If the kid turns out to be a bum in a few years, then so be it but as long as we are winning I could not care less RIGHT NOW.

As soon as we start to lose a few games whenever this happens (next year or so on) then some players will be under scrutiny,Until then buckle your chinstraps and enjoy the ride :rocker:

No it's not.

Honestly, how many RB's in this league would average 4.6 ypc running with this offense? At least 40. I mean, let's be honest. At least 40 running backs in this league could average 4.6 ypc in this offense. Sammy Morris came in as a JAG and this offense made him look good. Maroney is AVERAGE. Sorry.

Re: Maroney "If it comes to running the ball and I don't do anything, talk about me"

Well I think this Maroney thread was made to point out a conversation from Maroney on what he felt about the criticism that he and his mother are reading and hearing about his performance and his feeling towards it.

Unlike the Maroney is glass threads and Maroney stinks threads that were all over last week,This ones just a tad different, But still you get some crap from overly sensitive ballwashing homers anyway.

His Mom wouldn't have to read this stuff if he would stop self-mutilating....

Last week he gave the media "I'm not gonna change my style" comments...now he's undermining the coach that tried protecting him by putting out the "foot injury" bench covering story.

And for every LJ, Holmes, Jackson, and Barber there has been a Blair Thomas, William Green, Tyrone Wheatley, Tim Biakabatuka, and many others who just never got it going. I go by what my eyes see. I have seen absolutely NOTHING that tells me this guy will be anything more than AVERAGE. NOTHING. He doesn't have one great skill. His speed is good, not great. His vision is average at best. His runs like he has high heel pumps on. He is an average pass receiver. What the hell does he do that is better than average? What???? You mentioned Steven Jackson had a poor start? The guy had over 1000 yards, 8 running TDs, 43 catches, and 2 receiving TDs in his 2nd year. MAroney has 24 receptions in 20 games. No comparison my friend. You guys keep hoping and praying that somehow Maroney magically gets SPECIAL skills. I don't see it happening. Hey, it's not like we haven't swung and missed on draft picks before. Bethel Johnson ring a bell? We got the best front office in football but they drafted a DUD with Maroney. Wake up and smell the roses.

You're going to have to accept that Maroney is here, and he's here to stay. He will be the running back for the next 3-4 years at least, and will be successful. Cry about it all you want, but you're going to see it like the rest of us.

Whoa, settle down there tiger. I heard the same BS from the Drew Bledsoe toadies when he was masquerading his one trick pony game before my eyes game after miserable game until we got lucky and Mo Lewis knocked his can out. Considering Maroney is made out of Glass, I would be using erasable pencil for his name on the depth chart instead of using permanent marker. :D

Re: Maroney "If it comes to running the ball and I don't do anything, talk about me"

velly intellesting. It kind of lends credence to the theory that they're keeping him fresh for the end of season and playoffs.

This whole "made of glass" bullcrap argument is pretty pointless in this season. While Maroney hasn't had to carry the team on his back, and possibly couldn't, I don't believe we're seeing all he has to give (in the TD department,) and I do believe I'll take 4.6 per carry. If ever called on to do that 20-25 times in a game, we'll see whether Maroney is that type of back that can handle the full load, a la, say, Joseph Addai (or, make it 30 a game and say Larry Johnson. By the way, how's he faring this year?)

Long story short, I too am frustrated that he's not leading the league in something, because Brady and Moss are, so you have to figure we need one other guy leading the league

But a lot can happen, and it's kind of nice to know he could have gone the rest of the game last week... there are 9 left before it's all over (God willing.)

Drew? That name sounds familiar. Did he ever play in the NFL?

Re: Maroney tells critics "I'll come through when the 10-0 Patriots need me"

Thats what he said in as close to the quotes as you can get in what you are allowed on the title area.

It's nowhere near and nothing like what he said in the article. However, it's Thanksgiving and Pat64 is basically a good guy so I forgive you.

This article could've been about Brady or Seymour or anyone else. Our problem with it isn't the Maroney angle. It's the principle of not understanding the article and putting something in quotes that is the WRITER'S feeling, not at all Maroney's.

You remain forgiven. Happy Thanksgiving.

P.S. Help your Mom with the pie, please.

You'll still be saying all the same things in 3 years.

Aren't you the same guy who predicted with a vengance during the Colts/Pats game that the Pats will lose?? And you are here stating that our RB 'IS A BUST' in his second year of running?? I am sure you considered that he had a surgery in the offseason and that the Pats offense is currently highly oriented towards the passing game with very little need to rely on the running game at this stage.

Why don't you shed your dramatic declarations and pause to consider for a moment that BB and the offensive coaches might be knowing about the team and the game slightly more than us fans and that they must be doing things for a reason?

FYI - I am disappointed that Maroney has not shown us anything impressive (like say that of Addai's) and this had made me slightly worried about our running game, especially given the recent injury to Faulk. And that in turn makes me wonder how our offense will be if we play in conditions when the ball is slippery to catch.

Do I have confidence in our RB's ability to carry us thru' when the passing falters? I am a bit shaky there based on what I have seen so far but trust BB would have something planned for that situation.

But, there is no need for us to be mercilessly slamming our players just based on hypothesis.

Give me Jones-Drew and twice on Sundays. What a great third down RB this guy is. Would do everthing you want, with the right attitude, in a pass first offense.
