Although i'm a patriot in the original sense too,
the anthem part doesn't bother me.
People don't have to follow my rituals.

The cellphone part, however, is inexcusable.
People abusing others by inappropriate cellphone use
deserve, in turn, to be abused.

One proportionate way to deter cellphone discourtesy ... is to
join in their conversation!
(After all, if they weren't speaking to you, how would you have heard?)

only in totalitarian countries is it a REQUIREMENT for people to stand for anthems and the like.

On the other hand, constant and annoying cell phone use in public places should carry the death penalty and the punishment should be carried out by anyone who views it, summarily

More importantly, using a cell phone and disrespecting the 60,000 or so folks who are taking part in the anthem is pretty self-absorbed and disgusting too.

I just wish folks would recognize that the anthem isn't tribute to the current administration. It's a tribute to those that fought and died to make this the greatest place to live in the world and allow us to plop our fat asses into $120.00 seats and drink $8.00 beer.

I would ignore her. If she complains about you giving her a hard time, season tickets are at risk. As far as the phone is concerned, I would complain to security and let them deal with it. As far as the National Anthem is concerned, many of us served in the Armed Forces of this country so that people like her have the right to be disrespectful jerks. I have a bigger problem with players not taking off those doo rags during the playing of the Anthem. That is as much of a hat as the helmet is.

I would be po'd because I find idiots yammering on cell phones right next to me at sporting events to be really irritating. The fact that its durin the anthem probably makes it worse...but people can choose to do what they want during the anthem, so thats not a big deal.

I dont think anyone here would debate the merits of standing up during the national anthem(at least i hope not)....but it still should never be a requirement or something that you feel obliged to do.

Maybe they are a douchebag Canadian or something. In which case it's still disrespectful, albiet a bit more excusable.

Remember -- physical violence is always the best solution.

Great answer. The OP really mixed offenses here. I have no issue with sitting for the anthem, but phone use during the game would warrant a polite comment.

You are sitting at a Patriots game in damn good seats that you paid for (not corporate or friendly Gimmes).

Is the game at Gillette Stadium? Bob Kraft's stormtroopers (read: Security) would probably grab the girl out of her seat and ban her for life from the stadium.

You might laugh but my buddy got banned for life from Gillette. It was snowing during the game (it was a couple of years ago) and a guy was being a jerk a couple of rows in back of him and the guy threw a snowball at my friend. My friend picked up some snow and made a snowball but didn't throw it. (Keep in mind a bunch of other people were throwing snow at the same time). A security guard pointed at him and escorted him to the security booth where they took down his information (from his ID) and was banned from Gillette Stadium for life for NOT throwing a snowball.

This happened to me once, back in '88. There was a lady, early 70's, who refused to stand during the National Anthem. Well, I overreacted, and beat the living tar out of her.

I sure turned beet red when I found out, she had no legs. VERY embarassing to say the least.

This is why I love the internet. Good stuff.

The guy/girl to your immediate left (who you do not know) does not stand up during the National Anthem, just keeps talking away on his/her cell phone.

What do you do?

1. Ignore them with a ‘humphhh’.
And afterwards calmly ask them why they did not stand.

2. Politely ask them to stand.

3. Tell them to stand and turn the cell phone off.

4. Get the attendant.

5. Grab them to make them stand.

6. Pummel the hell out of the SOB.

Any thoughts??
7. Create a useless post to rag about it to everyone.

Saying something to them will only end up causing a scene. They don't give a crap what you think, obviously.

Therefore, the prudent thing to do is be as annoying as you find them to be.

Do the following:
1) Burp and/or fart whenever you can
2) Fake sneeze and cough a lot.
3) If they are between you and the row to exit, frequently get up throughout the game. Be sure to accidentally step on their toes.
4) Accidentally spilling something on them like beer or catsup would be a nice touch.
***
If all of that doesn't work, you may have to use extreme measures
5) Sh.t your britches. If that don't clear them out, nothing will

That should make you feel better. Maybe.

C.) Give them a bowl of pumkin soup.

D.) Offer to buy them a hotdog if they believe in the golden calf

E.) Sell all of your worldly possetions after the game, get on a small boat and see the world to show your "them" what you are made of.

F.) Give blood, cause he/she should not have been on that phone thingee.

G.) Demand a refund from Kraft!

H.) Run for president, win, raise the army against such treason!

I.) Giggle about the way the clouds seem to be dancing today.

J.) Snort a bunch of ajax in front of some nuns.

I don't know dude. Just be free man. Don't let other people mess with your day. It ain't worth it. Life is way too short.

Oh, and I am a Marine and I have served so that people can talk on their phones if they want. This ain't Iran.

That was YOU?!? That was Grandma's first, and last, game she ever attended.

How about throw myself off a balcony, because evidently I'm the kind of person that cares about someone talking on a cell phone during the national anthem to the point that I post about it on a messageboard...

Oh, wait, I'm not, so I can refrain from plunging to my death needlessly. Seriously, it's rude, and it's annoying that someone would do that, but rudeness isn't a crime, and we're not extremist freaks like some places in the world, so let it go.

Thank you. That's a better answer than the one I deleted. I feel better now.

That was your Grandma? Any chance she found a silver pendant near her wheel chair after the rumble? It's kinda sentimental to me.

has 'rush home to ***** about it on the internet' been picked yet?

Sad is the day when people consider talking on cellphone is worse then not standing for your own NATIONAL ANTHEM.

Woah. To think we root for a team called the Patriots.

I'm wearing it right now. It's a reminder to avenge the indignity she suffered.

You wouldn't happen to have 6 fingers on one hand, would you?

Chris

Great topic Jack.
Funny responses, people.
Anything to get us past the black Patriots news hole during the 2nd week since a game.
