Artificial crowd noise at Indy? (MERGED)

Re: More Polian shenanigans -- artificial crowd noise?

Just let them run with it. People believe what they want to believe. What's the saying by that guy on Mythbusters, "I reject your reality and substitute my own!"
Obviously when presented with the evidence, you completely deny culpability by the Colts organization. Simply pathetic.

PATS FANS!!: Don't even stoop to that level. The Patriots won a game that was poorly officiated. It doesn't matter. The Patriots won the Colts lost. We got home field throughout the playoffs. We'll see how teams enjoy that.

Re: More Polian shenanigans -- artificial crowd noise?

This is the audio from the Brackett INT:

http://rapidshare.com/files/67506145/Brackett_INT_Audio.mp3.html

Can anyone tell me where it is? Perhaps just before he catches it? That sounds more like a fan yelling closing to the microphone.

Yeah... actually, I do remember a difference.

If Belichick gets hammered for whatever he did... this should be penalized a first round pick as well.

Unfair advantage and all...

Poorly is a bad choice of words, corrupt would be more appropriate.

Re: About the crowd noise...

I didnt notice this during the game, probably cause everyone was arguing about how much it takes to pay a ref off but...

After polians computer looped and crashed, was the crowd noise lower through the rest of the game? I'm trying to figure out if that was why the patriots started playing better if they didn't turn it back on.

Any one know? Or was it just quieter for the next two minutes while windows booted back up?

Pretty obvious too

Here it is:

Re: More Polian shenanigans -- artificial crowd noise?

I don't think the fact that it didn't affect the announcers vocals means that it definitely wasn't a CBS glitch.

I bet it was a glitch in CBS' equipment that affected the mic'd crowd noise input only, before the final mix down to the TV output.

It was SO obvious to everyone on TV that I would have to think if that actually happened over the stadiums PA system that sims and nantz would have mentioned it, or at least reacted to it.

But, it wouldn't surprise me if the Colts did amplify the crowd noise either.

Re: More Polian shenanigans -- artificial crowd noise?

That's the smoking gun. Their computer hung up. I'd know that sound anywhere as I have had some POS computers in my day. Everyone has. It's interesting, we all knew they were doing it, that's the proof. Notice the announcers voices don't skip. That shouldn't be so easily dismissed.

yeah I noticed it too and thought it was a CBS problem during the game, din't have a second thought about it. Hope it's true :p that they do piped in noise... just so to get those Colts fans off their high horse. It was posted in this thread http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d803e4990 at about 2:20-2:40 listen to it carefully.

If anyone wants to download an MP3 of the fake crowd noise I have uploaded it to my site as well, just in case this "disappears" from other places.

Re: About the crowd noise...

Also posted on PFT.com. I noticed it during the game, however I assumed it was something with CBS's audio. Does anyone have anymore information on this???

Re: More Polian shenanigans -- artificial crowd noise?

Anyone have the ability to check the replay after the play? They play the audio from the play when they show the replay. If it was from something inside the stadium and not CBS it will be on the replay as well.

Re: More Polian shenanigans -- artificial crowd noise?

This is almost as fun as tracking the cameraman on the Jets sideline. Well done, Patsfans.

Re: More Polian shenanigans -- artificial crowd noise?

the colts are using bootleg "artificial crowd noise cds", thats why you hear some skipping...:)

I'm a live audio engineer. This was NOT a broadcast thing. This is my perception of what happened. I posted this on the Pat's group on Usenet. This is a cut and paste.

The Colts have microphones placed in locations around
the stadium. They are probably somewhere in the domed
ceiling. They would be directional shotgun mics and aimed
at the crowd. They would be best aimed at the top half of
the seating so as not to pick up any field noise. When the
opposing team is on offense and before the play starts when
the QB is calling signals, the house, (Colt's), engineer turns
up these mics and feeds them through the stadium's sound
system. This is much better than pre-recorded crowd noise
because it is a perfect audible match to the environment and
there are no recordings of crowd noise to get busted with.

What happened tonight was the engineer turned up the mics
too much. This caused the mics to pick up the sound eminating
from the stadiums sound system, (the amplified crowd noise),
as well as the natural crowd noise. The result is a feedback loop.
As this loop continues to cycle through the mics and speakers
oscillation occurs. This was described as the skipping sound.
At this point the feedback is full bandwidth. This means that all of
the frequencies being reproduced by the system were present
in the loop. If you listen carefully to the recording you will hear
a midrange frequency starting to become predominant. It sounded
like something between 600hz and 800hz was starting to take off.
At this point the engineer became aware of his error and shut off
the mics. That was the abrupt drop in volume that is also on the
recording on the PFT site.

If this was an accident with one of the ref's mics, field noise would
have been pumped through the system such as player's voices. So
I don't think that this a possibility anymore.

I'm practically positive that the Colts were up to no good. Any
audio engineer with a half of brain will recognize that sound.
That includes the multitude of engineers on NFL payroll. I doubt
anything will come of it. It would be a massive scandal for the
league's pretty boy team and a member of the CC. We'll see what
Goodell is made of now. He'd have to have the stadium physically
inspected and chances are that the mics are removed after any
games. What is good is that Goodell and others will now be listening
more intently and this may be enough to make Polian back off and
stop using them. IMO the Colts are cheaters.

I was told it's not reverb in the other thread.

If it was a mic picking up the sound from it's own speaker it would have created feedback not reverd. It would have kept amplifying and amplifying into an infinite loop.

This sound is the sound a computer system makes when it hangs or crashes.

Tips to everyone. Don't surf for porn on your artificial crowd noise machine because the viruses and spyware you get will make it crash during a big game.

That is not reverb!!!!

BTW, the Dome's sound system really, really sucks, but the entire crowd would have heard it if it was coming through it.
