I've probably re-watched that game more times than you have. And no, it wasn't ridiculous. There were two plays where it should have been called. Everything else was normal play.
BTW, dumbarse, that game actually was NOT used during the deliberations about the rule. In fact, when the reports were coming out of the meetings, it was noted that it was Patrick Surtain and Sam Madison who were the most used examples.
