"Pats just doing what Colts did"

We're not talking about playing Madden against your 7 year old brother in the basement. Up 2 scores with 15 seconds left and the ball inside the opponents 5 yard line this is indeed what usually happens in the real NFL.

NOBODY downs the ball to turn it over. nobody. ever.

If you have the ball, and are winning you run running plays till you are out of downs, this is what the pats did and they ended up in the endzone.

i posted this in another thread but seems appropriate here

here is TMQ's hypocrisy

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2...ortCat=nfl#new

Warning -- Praise of New England: Notwithstanding the relentless anti-Belichick tone of the previous two columns, TMQ lauds the New England coach for showing good sportsmanship. Leading Buffalo 38-7 with 4 minutes remaining, the Flying Elvii faced fourth-and-6 on the Bills' 8. Belichick simply had the fullback dive up the middle, Buffalo ball, to hold down the final score.
so here the bills stopped us ..so its good sportsmanship. In dallas those guys let us score , we are running up the score.

I think people are missing the point. The lose last year in the AFCCG drove Bill nuts. In that game, the offense lost intensity and gave up the game. Have you noticed how determined the Pats have looked on the last drive in most of the games. That has been a big focus this year.

No lead is safe in the NFL. In my mind, it is a sign of respect.

What comments are these?

Back when spygate was at it's peak, a reporter asked Dungy what he thought about the whole mess. He stated that what the Pats did was no different than what Barry Bonds has done. That is the comment I am refering to.

To settle this,

Point: Pats had their practice squad RB in the line-up...NE was going to run the ball...Dallas knew NE was going to run the ball. NE just said "Hey, stop us!" Dallas couldn't or didn't....End of story!

This is a completely assinine statement. If the Patriots take a knee on 4th down they give the ball back to the Cowboys. How is that "what usually happens in such a situation?" I have never, ever seen a team take a Knee that would cause a turnover. The clock stops on turnovers, so a turnover on downs stops the clock and gives the ball back to Dallas. Do you think at that Point Dallas would have taken a knee? NO F'ing way. Why in hell should we have to put our defense back on the field if Dallas cannot stop our offense?
You had to put your D back on the field anyway after the score..... The situation itself is rare enough. And while I certainly cant recall any team going the route the Pats chose I do remember the Saints kneeling the ball 4 times last year up big on Dallas inside the 5 with almost a minute to play on a Sunday night. Dallas, obviously out of respect, chose to kneel the ball and the end game since the game was over anyway.

NOBODY downs the ball to turn it over. nobody. ever.

Stated this before, but here are some facts:

*In 2004, PM had 7 4th Quarter TD's. Brady has 5 to date.
*Of those 7 TD's, 6 came with either the Colts TIED or LOSING the game
*In the ONE game where PM threw a 4th QTR TD, with 12:56 to play, Colts were up 20. In the first half, Tennessee was up 24-17 at one point.
*PM threw THREE TD passes his last three games in '04.
*PM played 3 downs in the last game of the season, and did not throw a TD on any one of those 3 downs he played.

:p

Maybe the Pats would have been able to take a knee and let the clock run out if the Cowboys didn't use all their timeouts to stop the clock repeatedly while the game was already over.

Either that or BB wanted to show Dallas that we earned our dynasty by shoving the ball down their throat one more time for lasting effect.

What's there to be confused about? The game was over either way so why not just down the ball? Of course no one is obligated to do that (or even care about being called a good sport) but it's what usually happens in such a situation.

NOBODY takes a knee if it means you're giving the ball BACK to the other team. This is ridiculous. How do you people NOT KNOW this??????

I would love love loooove to see a 16-0 season out of the Pats. Just a stinking shame you guys have to play my boys this weekend.
Well then, just start rooting for 16-0 *after* this weekend. ;)

concerning the boys issue of running up the score...two explanations, look em up...

1. eckel
2. boys TO's (covered by multipled colleagues already, but why did phillips call those TO? anyone?)

Dallas called their final TO on 2nd down....

Okie, Buffalo stop us. Cowboys didnt, so stfu.

We ran the same plays with a 4th string RB, stop us, it's that easy.
They get paid more than me and you just to stop the offense from scoring, let them ******* earn their paycheck.

Seriously getting annoyed with all these peoplesaying we run up the score. I wish the Pats DO run up the score even more just to spite everybody that hate them.

another thread hijacked by those either unwilling or unable to repond to the original thought.

The reason that manning and the colts were praised in '04 for blowouts is because the media was desperate for a team that would challenge the Pats. Do you remember all the "peyton deserves to win super bowl this year, look he's the most dominant passer the league has ever had" crap coming out of the media that year. It was akin to a backhanded dissing of brady, and after the pats destroyed the colts in that afc title game (running the pats record w/brady v the colts to 6-0), all the blowouts and the TD record seemed hollow to the media and it growing disdain for the pats.

fast forward to '07, the pats are perceived as the favorite again..... just like 2004. While its heartwarming to root for the underdog, the media views it as heartless to root for the favorite.

I'm going to say somting completely politically incorrect here. I was honestly amazed that the media turned the suicide of Dungy's son into a "Wouldn't it be a wonderful fate if the Colts won the super bowl this year?" in 2005.

I felt bad for Dungy having to endure that experience but in no way did it make him or the Colts more deserving to win the super bowl that year. And in my opinion, it would not have made for any more of a wonderful story than what fate actually did have in store. And of course we all know that was the Steelers and Bill (daddy, we're world champions!) Cowher winning it all that year. Hell, if fate had the Colts & Dungy lined up that year, Big Ben never would have made that tackle on Bus' fumble recovery!

I was glad that the media's little "Dungy justice" didn't come to fruition that year....God that felt good to get off my chest!

Good point.

They are cherry picking their grapes of whine.
