I never advocated taking Brady out with a cheap shot.

As with any message board, you're going to have some idiots. We seem to have too many of them on ES.

No, you instead called us "douche like" and said "**** em'!"

Having lived in Viriginia since 1993, I have a very clear idea of what Redskins fans are like.
Of all the dumb things that this post contained, you lead with the dumbest. Way to show the readers your ignorance right off the bat!
The sad part is they usually exhibit a Dan Synder type point of view. Even the smartest ones seem to have a denial mind-set.
Lol. A Dan Synder point of view, huh? Denial mind set? What, pray tell, are we denying?
They always think they are way better than they actually are.
Ah .. thank you for clarifying. Yes, many of us are guilty of wearing the homer glasses. But just so you know, it's not just Redskins fans, but rather a common problem with being a fan of any sports team. Or ... having a Dan Synder point of view. Because that has something to do with this, I'm assuming. Right?
They think the NFL owes them something, because after all, they are the Redskins and they are better than their record suggests. Year after year.
Um... what? The only thing the NFL owes the Redskins year after year is a draft pick, which we're willing to trade you for any high-priced non-producing talent who doesn't fit into our system.
They are fascinated by the "STAR" player. They always have an individual name on the tip of their tongue, no team concept. Sean Taylor will come up big, Lavar Arrington will make the difference, Moss will come up big, Coles will come up big, we have Bruce Smith, we have Portis, we have Riggins, we have Sammy Baugh, we have Joe Gibbs, we have WHOEVER.
WOW. Of all the places I thought I'd never see this come from. Tell you what. Go ahead and play dumb and be fascinated with your "team". Just keep in mind that before your "STAR" showed up, Belichick's record as a coach is 41-55 with a playoff record of 1-1. After the Golden Boy fell in his lap? 76-26 with a playoff record of 12-2, including 3 championships. I think during the Dolphins game the poor guy came face-to-face with the horrific reality of Life Without Tom, couldn't bear it (even during a game that was well in hand), and went back to his happy place. You're the team depending on the stars, not us buddy.
The problem is that football was a team sport then, and is a team sport today. One player can't take on 11 players.
Again, I'd love to see what happens if Sir Tom happens to pull a McNabb and is lost for an extended period of time.
A couple of years ago in the preseason, the Redskins stunk up the joint. So Synder proudly put up signs at the stadium suggesting that they had the same lousy record going into one of their superbowl seasons. The implication was clearly that he felt the preseason was a great indication of things to come (and it was).
And this has what do with your stereotype of Redskins fans you acquired since 1993? Just so you know, we hate Synder too.

The stuff about injuring Brady is just another example of the mind-set. We are the Redskins and we deserve to win so let's take out Brady with a cheap shot. Yeah, that would be so cool and it would show them...

LIVING IN DENIAL.
I don't want to see Brady get hurt. I don't want to see anyone get hurt. I hope to see a game that's competitive and entertaining. I have tremendous respect for the Patriots organization, its fans, and the entire city of Boston. And I can honestly say that the majority of Skins fans feel the same way.

That said, it would foolish not to expect to find the occasional jackass here and there, especially on the internet, that misrepresents the entire fan base. You can go ahead and judge books by their color all you want, but all I have to say about the matter is that Patriots fans don't have to worry about me judging them based of the ignorance I've seen in this post.

Now, let's talk about this here game ... ;)

I found this on the "super bowl" thread:

They really better be careful not to overlook us, if they think they are just going to pass all over us like they have with other teams I am telling you they are making a big misteak. We are a ball control team, and all it is going to take is a few three and outs on their part to really get things cooking for us as a team. The offense will be sooo pumped to see the Defense controlling them, the offensive line will then start to pummel their small but speedy d line and backers. I really think New England has to run the ball against us to win. I just hope we can stop the run with our d line.

I cant read that site. I hate black backgrounds!!!

It is kind of silly of some Pats fans to completely over look the Redskins game. You get 16 games per year, why would you look past any game? Each game for me is the best day of the year (even when the Fins are 0-7.)

By the way Skins fans, you barely escaped from us. If not for some moronic false start and intentional grounding penalties on the game tying drive, that drive would've been game winning. Also, if Cam would've figured out Ronnie Brown is a stud prior to the season rather then 2 weeks in, we would've gotten you too. ;)

I am gonna cook me up some of those misteaks tonight.

I'd have to agree with you and say all fans are pretty much the same given the same circumstances. We do bicker over stupid things all for pretty much no real important reason...I'm as guilty as anyone else!

As many of you know, I'm a long time New England sports fan, but have lived in VA for sometime. I have been to many Redskin games, and have alot of friends and coworkers who are die hard Redskin fans.

As far as this part of the country vs. New England, and the politeness/manners related to the residents. It's quite honestly not even close. I'm the first one to say "don't generalize", but down here people tend to be so rude, and in a hurry, and don't have the manners that I was use to growing up.

My wife and I were in Maine and Mass. over the summer, and more people smiled and waved towards us in traffic, and also while we were crossing the street in four days, than the last 4 years here in the DC area. It was so noticable. All my friends from here that I brought up there over the last 20 years have all commented to me about "how nice everybody is up there". It comes across big time. We admit down here that there is so much rudeness, it's kinda sad. Try and let somebody merge in front of you in traffic, and expect a "thank you". It doesn't happen. It's maddening.

As for sports knowledge, again it's not even close. The sports radio station down here is near last in the ratings. Back in Boston, heck, the top 3 or 4 rated radio stations are all "Sports Talk". Edge on the knowledge level goes heavily to New England.

What about Redskin vs. Patriots fans. Patriot fans at Gillette, or in the sports bars seem pretty open minded and humble, but on these boards some can be "over the top", and rude to those that visit. Redskin fans can be brutal, and don't have a good reputation around here from opposing team fans. I hear all the time "I don't mind Joe Gibbs and the Redskins, but I can't stand their fans". That's pretty common.

By comparison, after a loss, the Patriots fans tend to get angry, while Skins fans get very depressed. The post game call in shows make you want to jump off a bridge.

As far as talking smack after the home team wins. Skins fans are FAR less classy and humble. Far less. Patriot and Red Sox fans tend to have alot more "hey, you guys played great, we're fortunate to win". On these boards though there seems to be alot less of that.

One thing I definitely have noticed is that New England sports fans are far quicker to say "Hmmm, I think we'll be 11 and 5 this year, here's why, and here are the games we'll lose". While every year the Redskin fans predict great things, and then end up with a losing record. There seems to be more "blinders on" with Skins fans, and less honest assessment. Just one man's opinion.

Anecdote: One female friend Redskins fan went with us to a preseason Patriots - Skins game years ago. She ripped the Pats, and spoke about how great the Skins were. Then, in 2001, the Pats win it all, and the best she could say was "Come back to me when you've won more than one like the Redskins". Three Super Bowls later, she still insists that her Skins are better than the Patriots, regardless of the situation.

Please know, there are some great Redskins' fans, who are very nice. I'm just giving an open and honest comparison of the norm. That anecdote admittedly is the extreme.

This is my experience as well....the only difference being that I live in the countryside, and folks are pretty polite and friendly, and they wave like in Maine.

But the fans act as you described. :D

My wife reads a football blog at work and the big prediction their local fantasy self-proclaimed guru made before the season was that the Randy Moss thing was really over-rated and Brady's numbers would be 'mediocre' as 'usual' and that Moss was a fantasy bust. :p

You can say whatever you want but you can't change reality.

I've been here 14 years. Yeah, I know exactly what Redskin fans say and do, time and again.

You can live in denial about what the predominant fan attitude around these parts is, but that is your choice.

I never said that fans like or dislike Synder. A lot of you just view football from the same fantasy viewpoint.

I don't really care what you want to say, it does not change the reality here in Viriginia. The Redskins media, ownership and fans all stick to the same story every year and end up losing more often than not.

I wonder what it's like to be a Redskins fan when we're winning.

I wouldn't really know. 2005/2006 was so long ago...

Classic example of the denial mind-set.

You had a REALLY weak play-off run, but in the eyes of the Redskin fan you've been 'winning'. What did you win? Slightly more games than the average in your weak conference.

There is a difference between liking the Redskins and being realistic about where you are at. You were not that good overall in 2005-6, just slightly better than some really mediocre NFC teams.

The Redskins just haven't been a very good team lately.

The Pats fans are laughing about this thread on their message board.

No, I was pointing out a complete factual error. NE has one of the biggest DL/LB corps in the league. If anything, it is the LB's speed that is an issue. Basically, his point would be like me talking about how Washington's safeties shy away from contact.

It was so terribly incorrect that I deemed it worthy of being mentioned here.

I am very very excited for this game Sunday. I expect an all out war between a good defense and great offense. Lets pray everyone stays healthy, has fun, and gives us a great afternoon show.

What the hell are you talking about? Who's changing reality? Your the one trying to stereotype an entire nation of Redskins fans based on solely on what you've chosen to acknowledge as 'your reality' over the past 14 years! To be so enthralled with an idea that EVERYONE on planet earth behaves the way your neighbors do is both ignorant and just plain stupid.

You should read your posts again. They really make no sense. You're just basically saying, "I live in Virginia. Therefore, I have the right to pre-judge everyone. Whatever I say is right, and if you don't agree with me, you're in denial."

To the rest of you, enjoy the game. Watch out for Mike Sellers. Dude's a friggin load to bring down. ;)

Jealousy is it my freinds.
Can you image living in Pittsburgh for example? Come on, be serious.

Correction: TWO good defenses and one great offense.

Other than that, spot on!

Hi all. I'm new to the site, stumbled on it via a google search for bob costas on new england patriots. (was just watching inside the NFL & costas was making mention of them)
I must say I really like the forum so far.
I'd like to preface my comments with the notion that I believe the Pats will defeat the Skins. Saying that, I was born in Washington state & not knowing any better as a kid I liked the Redskins (washington...hence washington redskins ) not realizing then, that the Seahawks were my "home" team. I followed the Skins for years , even after realizing my blunder of thinking they were the home team. I loved the team & thought Joe Gibbs was an amazing coach. I moved to N.E. in 1987 & started watching the Pats, while still keeping Washington as "my" team. Well after the Skins whooped Buffalo in the S.B....I found that my interest had finally moved from them & the Pats, to the Pats only & I embraced them (Hugh Millen/**** Mcphearson)(sp) & all) lol as my new favorite team.Well what timing, I was rewarded by the fact that the Pats slowly began to improve & became the amazing team they are today. I hold no animosity towards the Skins at all, as a matter of fact being a skins fan for so many years made the smack down of the Cowboys even more satisfing...once ya hate the boys, you always hate the boys.
I hope the Redskins defense does actually give the Pats a challenge this week, just to show that this is still the same team it has been, a team that just finds a way to win, no matter the type of game.

I lived in the DC area for four years, just moved back up to Boston a year ago.

There is no question that Redskins fans tend to ridiculously inflate the quality of their team. At the beginning of every season, Skins fans believe they're going to have a great year. It's kind of sad when reality sets in.

As far as general douchebaggery, I'd say Bostonians and DCans are about equal. Bostonians are more likely to be outright nasty; DCans more likely to be completely self-centered and oblivious.
