Herald: Father would be upset

this is uncalled for. No need to bring his family into it to make an emotional column. No one knows how BB feels about this himself or his family does let alone what his late father wouldve felt.

I couldn't agree with you more. Saying the man's dead father would be disappointed is wrong. DO NOT bring family into these. Bill did what he did, blame him...leave his loved ones (dead or alive) away.

Nonsense. There are two honor codes in the military, contrary to what civilians believe, one real and one fake. The real "honor code" is about loyalty between brothers on the battlefield. The fake "honor code" is about loyalty between lawyers in the press. As a military man himself, BB's father would have had the wisdom to understand this was an orchestrated lynch mob by an enemy who violated the "real" honor code, and that his son was thinking "outside the box", a well-respected military formula.

I love these idiots who report as a news article what they imagine a person they never met and who is deceased would "think" about a situation. it's just as likely that Belichick's Dad would know that BB only used the tapes for advanced scouting, like lots of other coaches, and that his son was villified, railroaded and dragged through the mud by a bunch of jealous enemies who could never do their job as well as his son and a commish who has no balls and bowed to pressure.

How about this - I (who have as much knowledge of the situation as this bozo) predict that if he were alive, BB's father would pay his fine for him.

Seriously this guy shouldn't be writing about what BB's father might think of the situation. the guy has passed on leave him be and don't try and act as if you'd have any clue as to what he'd think of the situation.
My thoughts exactly. Don't you just love it after someone is dead, a writer judges what they did wrong or what they would have done. To me "winning at all costs", means when a coach puts a player's health in jeopardy. I do not see that happening unless you believe everything Ted Johnson is stating. In today's Chicago Tribune, Dan paompei (football reporter) thinks BB is one of about 20 NFL coaches who have a system in place for stealing other teams signals. Gee, I wonder if one of those is Mike Nolan. Seems like this guy should investigate. Imagine destroying his dad's legacy. Dan Marino sure sounded like he received stolen defensive signals (HBO) while he played at Miami. Sounds like we need to investigate Don Shula. If stealing signs is a great benefit, watch for a highly explosive weekend of scoring. Unless, of course teams decide the risk of their system is worth the consequences or that it's within the boundaries.

What an absolute hack! Another non-football writer getting on his high horse about something he obviously knows nothing about. What the columnist missed here is that Steve Belichick was an advanced SCOUT. He stole signals and plays for a living!!! He used to take Bill on these trips with him and Bill would diagram the plays.

Un-F*ckingbelievable, bringing BB's father into this mix. From a journalistic standpoint this is the lowest blow yet.

You know, I made fun of someone earlier this week for saying they were heartbroken about this situation. Well, I am heartbroken this morning for Bill Belichick......

If this article bothers you, I suggest that you all cancel all newspapers and watch no sportscasts. I am way beyond responding to all who do not think sportsmanship and morality should even be discussed.

Bringing a guy's dad into is dirty pool. After reading education of a coach I don't think his dad would have a problem. I wish the whole label of cheating would go away. This is stupid. It's not cheating. His dad would be proud that he found another edge by studying film. (IMHO) The more knowledge the more you can work with. Even in Jeffri Chadiha's article it proved that even if he were to use it during the game he might be able to gain an advantage in a 1 or 2 plays out of 60 and that's if your execution is flawless.

Let's leave the guy's Dad out of it. he died proud of his son and his grand son is poised to follow in the same footsteps. Preparation is everything and that's really what this is all about. Not cheating.

Actually I have been in blackout mode this week, not watching the news, sports shows, listening to WEEI or reading the papers.

If you are way beyond responding to this then where are you? Help out the rest of us here.

The author did not have to bring Belicheck's deceased father into it.

Am I the only one that thinks the write of this article is a scumbag P.O.S. for mentioning Belichick's father in this context..? (EDIT: After reading other posts in this thread, obviously I am not the only one that feels this way). That was completely inappropriate and both the writer and publisher of that article should be ashamed.

Boy when times are tough you sure do learn who your friends are.

Sportsmanship, morality, the rules, consequences, punishment, etc, are all fair game for discussions. Brining a man's late father into the picture and saying "Steve Belichick would be disappointed in Bill" is a scumbag lowlife maneuver. It's pretty gutless to put words in a dead man's mouth in such a manner.

The national media has been pretty bad, but there is certainly no shortage of piling on from the local media. Nothing like a "kick 'em when they're down" mentality.

Belichick is NOT down. He is fine with what he did. He read a couple of statements, will pay the cash out of petty cash, and will move on.

It is not his dad that the writer is trying to measure Bill against, it is his dad's sense of sprotsmanship that rapidly becoming part of a bygone age. As someone posted, Navy is NOT the kind of program it used to be.

This is all about Bill, not Steve. And yes, I do believe the behavior of Bill Belichick has changed since his father died.

How do you know this ? Do you not think that Belichick did this in Cleveland when he was coaching with Saban - a long time friend of Steve ? You are making VAST assumptions about Steve here.

And yes, I do believe the behavior of Bill Belichick has changed since his father died.
What behavior has changed ?

He's been outed on a few things, the camera, the affair since his dad died but the "behavior" started before Steve passed on.

MG, you're pissing me off as much as Gelzinis. How in blazes could you know what personal toll this event has taken on BB -- rightly or wrongly? And Gelzinis most certainly IS invoking Steve Belichick in a highly personal fashion by theoretically asking what he would think of his son's behavior. The column he wrote is disheartening.

I called the Herald and left a message on Gelzinis's voicemail, inviting him to call me back and speak with me, journalist to journalist. If anyone wants to offer their input on his piece, call 617-426-3000 and ask for the city desk.

If he does call you, HAHAHAHAHAHA! My questions are the ones posted before. Has he ever met Steve Belichick? If so, how long a conversation did he have with him and out of that conversation, what insight did he gain to conclude that Steve would be disappointed with his son?

Agreed. Couldn't have said it better myself. It's one of the dirty tricks the media uses when they want to tear someone down. Turn a positive truth in to a negative lie.

Sigh! Can we lock or just get rid of this thread? The article is not worthy of the attention it's getting
