Lost in all the excitement of the week is the story of Pennington.

I've always made fun of him, called him fragile, NoodleArm, etc, but I felt sorry for him Sunday listening to trashy Jets fans cheering as he hopped off the field, not laying there waiting for help and perhaps costing the Jets a time out. It was a great helmet toss, too. Nice bounce.

When he came back in, I actually hoped he'd be pulled rather than suffer permanent injury.

Now I hear he wants to play Sunday, and I am backing off the NoodleArm stuff to give props to a warrior.

As far as Jets fans go, well I wasn't surprised at their low class cheering, but I will give them this: Philly fans are just as bad, maybe worse.

This is kind of like when Bledsoe went to the Bills. I didn't want the Bills to win, but I wanted Bledsoe to do well. Good luck to Chad and I hope his ankle heals, and hope that Jets loses (and may there be many) are due to a weak secondary and poor coaching and poor Oline, not to his passing.

Re: OT - Pennington

I'm with you. If he played behind a decent O line, he could do real damage. In fact, he did a lot right before the injury and, like you, I was worried for him when he came back. He showed a heck of a lot of courage and is a better QB than he is sometimes given credit for.

Re: OT - Pennington

Agreed that the man is a true football player and serious competitor.
I just HOPE the fans were cheering for his not wanting the trainers...

Re: OT - Pennington

I agree with all the above, keep in mind there is some dispute about the cheering, some say the fans were reacting to a QB running out on the field rather than one leaving.....I wasnt there. As for Pennington,he is a great game manager and given some protection can be very dangerous ,IMO.Seems to be a good team leader, also.

Chad Pennington is the definition of an average NFL QB. QBs better than him are good, and QBs worse than him are bad. Half the teams in the NFL would be thrilled to have him as their QB.

I love Chad. in a manly sort of no hugging way.

I call him Lion Heart with the noddle arm.

They do not come any tougher then CP. he is a credit to the NFL and the US in general.

Credit to the US?? It's not like the guy was in Iraq or Afganistan. Are your for real?

He has some toughness yes, but let's not give the guy the CMH for trying to limp back to the sidelines because he sprained his ankle.

Maybe the American Medal of Freedom would be appropriate

As a Jets fan I do not think Chad is the qb who will help this team to a championship...however I do like and respect him alot for his heart, leadership, and the class he shows. When he fell down and was injured Sunday, I thought to myself "oh no this might be it for him for good". The replay looked bad, and I was looking more at his knee than his ankle. When he came back out for the next series I was pleasantly surprised, but still concerned about him getting hurt even worse.

Did anybody notice that when Chad was struggling to walk off the field, not a single member of his team came to help him? Even when he fell to the ground, not a single Jet player came to his aid? I found that really strange.

I think that Pennington should be cut by the jets. He'd be a patriot by week's end. The jets fans don't deserve him. And they don't get a pass from me just because there are worse fans in Philly.

It is a split camp amongst Jets fans about Chad. There is a group for Chad and a group against...The Kellen Clemens supporters are ready to move on, while the Chad supporters feel he is the best option at the time.

My take? I think Chad is a great leader, with alot of heart and class. On the other hand, it has been 7 years since he came into the league, and around 4 or 5 that he has been a starter. I am not sure how much more time he has with this team.
I want him to do well, and I want him to be healthy so he can continue to play. What I heard on Sunday was low, and I hated it.

I believe an all around solid team can win a SB with Chad Pennington at QB, assuming he has got over the youthful jitters that made him throw like a girl in that Raider playoff game in 2002. He generally shows poise, heart, smarts and leadership. The reason he will not win with the Jets is that Ferguson appears to be a bust, the D line is mediocre and the LBers are not dynamic. It would take 2-3 years to repair that damage, by which time Chad will probably be hurt again due to Ferguson sucking @$$. Wow, was he terrible last week. Still it's only week one and things can change quickly in the NFL. Maybe Ferguson can turn it around. Frankly, Tony Ugoh already looks better than D Brick. At least he is a force in the run game.

Yeah, I mentioned the same thing to my friends when we saw it. I find it amazing that not ONE of his linemen came to his assistance.

Now, The only time I will root for the Jets is when their winning will help the Patriots. Having said that, though, I give props to Chad for the way he willed himself to get up and get off the field. That was a MAN acting like a MAN out there, and he deserves every bit of our respect for his actions.

I also agree with an earlier poster that if he had a decent O-line in front of him, he could do some damage. he might not have the greatest arm in the NFL, but he has reads and is pretty accurate with what he does.

It's all about respect. Real fans who care about the game can respect their opponents and give them credit for their sportsmanship. Chad might be the QB of the JETS, but he got my respect for his actions after he was hurt.

You would hope that was the case, but from his lips, it does not seem like he is saying anything.

I think Chad is a prototypical backup QB who's made a valiant effort at being a starter. He's smart, accurate, plays with heart, and has proved he can lead an offense successfully, but is not a big threat beyond 20 yards. He's also found a hard time staying healthy for long stretches, which is why he'd make a great backup to any decent starters.

Cmon, do you realy think his boys just ignored him, I saw the game 2 times, initialy there were players and trainers and then they all stepped back when Chad yelled for them to do so. the sam when he was strugling back to the bench, teammates and trainers came to meat him and he refused there help and made it to the bech himself.
