2017 Draft Prospect Thread

Wisky backers showing their rep.

C.C. showing some speed.

*Edit* And hands. Two catches in a row. The first one was thrown behind him and he made a nice juggling catch.

Oh my Tankersley just made one hell of an INT. 6'2 190 with length.

He just sealed the game with his second pick. Nice night for him.

OJ Howard is one of the few offensive guys I'd take if the defensive pick/value just isnt there.

He's huge and criminally underused. He can block inline and on the 2nd level. Line up line anywhere. Has great speed and soft hands. 6'5-6'6 / 250 and will get stronger.

He's a fantastic prospect.

Top-graded CBs in college football

Michael Egwuagu, UTSA 91.7
Arthur Maulet, MEM 90.1
Tre'Davious White, LSU 89.8
Jaire Alexander, LOU 89.8

(I think I mentioned him before but hes not coming out so I really try to limit my focus. Alexander has played great all year. Very talented kid and great athlete. Can play and track the ball. Used to play rec. in high school

Egwuagu has some great size and is a senior. Very well liked.

If the NFL Draft was tomorrow, this would be the top-10:

1. CLE
2. SF
3. JAX
4. CHI
5. NYJ
6. TEN (LA)
7. CAR
8. CIN
9. CLE (PHI) *************
10. NO

(Looks like Phila will have a top 10-15 pick)

I was looking at LBs and one guy i found i really like is Jalen Reeves Maybin. His main issues are #1 He got injured this year and #2 He is not the kind of guy the Pats usually draft. He is 6'0 225 and would be their smallest LB in a long time. Personally though I think he is just the kind of guy this defense needs. He is fast and loves to hit hard and attacks. He plays surprisingly physical for his frame and seems to be decent in pass coverage and has good sideline to sideline skills. The Pats seem willing to take more smaller LBs (KGH and Roberts were both near the same size) but i think this guy can consistently be what they showed.

Also due to injury he can be had in the 3rd or 4th likely as it is entirely based on projection and his very good 2015 year.

Watching some film on ashton lampkin, I am impressed

I have been very impressed with white this year. I know last year he was a turd, but he had really turned it around this year.

This year seems very deep. We'll see how the players turn out, but so far it appears that there are a ton of really quality guys who can help a team win. As much as I love the top prospects, trading down and adding solid young talent could be good for us.

After the recommendations about Tre' White, I pulled up some LSU games. He certainly has that Wow! quality to him at times, particularly on downfield throws. Looks very good. My biggest concerns are that his tackling effort is a bit lacking on occasion, and I've noticed that on square in or comeback routes, he can get lost at the top of the stem, because he's so anxious about getting beat deep. That said, he's very impressive and shows good awareness in zone. I think he has great potential, and I'd certainly be fine with that pick.

Oh, and although I've mentioned Douglas numerous times before, I thought I'd share this mini biopic from WVU. He's a good kid who has a knack for taking the ball away. Like Rowe, though, he can get a bit handsy in coverage. I like his competitive fire. Eight interceptions on the season for a 6'2 #210 corner is really impressive. You don't expect those bigger guys to jump routes consistently, but he has excellent timing and body positioning when going up for the ball.

Okay, one more video of Douglas. Here he's asked if he was more proud of his interception, or tracking down a ball carrier and forcing a fumble. I love that he preferred the forced fumble, because it prevented a touchdown. Some guys would be all about the interception. He also goes on to discuss how important it is for the team to win and make it to a bowl game. Seems like a team player with his head on straight.

Every week there seems to be one more corner that we can get excited about. Like the sound of both White and Douglas, for different roles on the defense.

I have been wanting to do a breakdown of Corn Elder for a bit, as he checks a bunch of boxes that the Pats seem to covet in corners. Think Jourdan Lewis with a 3rd round grade.

Its arguably the best running back, Tight end, Corner, and Safety drafts in 5-6 years, each respectively. And the worst QB and Oline drafts in even longer.

Can I just say that Corn Elder is one of the best names I've ever heard? :D

I think Elder is a gamer with a decent overall game, but in terms of pure stickiness, Lewis is head and shoulders above any corner I've seen. Lewis a little small and can be outmuscled, but prime Revis is the only other player at that position (at least in the 10 - 12 years that I've followed the draft as an armchair scout) who could mirror so perfectly. Maybe I'm overhyping him, but Lewis has the potential to be an all pro.

No your not. Lewis has been one of my favorites even before the year. I see some Butler and Bly in him. Slot corner is a starting position nowadays and I'd love to not worry about it and have him. Especially with how close and quick the passing game is to the los.

Check out @PFF_College's Tweet:

Samuel should come back for his Senior year imo but hes a real chess piece. Very dynamic. He'll get drafted a lot sooner than most think imho.

Mixon has top 25 talent but has some maturity issues among others. Hes a special talent but could also end up in someone's trunk.

Im not the biggest Hunt fan. Not sure his game will translate into the NFL. Quickness, speed isnt there and he runs too high for me.

Kamara is an interesting guy. Talented enough to make Bama with a versatile skill set.

Nice list. Kamara has definitely caught my eye lately. Seems like a bargain version of McCaffrey.

Defensive interior: Jonathan Allen, Alabama; Jake Replogle, Purdue
If there is one player who can feel slighted about not getting an invite to New York for the Heisman Trophy award ceremony, it’s Alabama’s talented defensive lineman Jonathan Allen. Dominant and versatile, he has as good a case as anyone to claim to be the best player in the nation. Allen ranks second on the year among 3-4 defensive ends with a run stop percentage of 12.0 percent, and third with a pass-rushing productivity rating of 12.1, racking up 56 total pressures from 367 pass-rushing snaps. Replogle had the second-highest pass-rushing productivity rating among defensive tackles at 15.2, with two sacks, 10 hits and 26 hurries on 191 pass rushing snaps. A consistent menace to opposing interior offensive linemen, he excelled against the run too.

Cornerback: Cordrea Tankersley, Clemson; Desmond King, Iowa
Tankersley’s coverage numbers this year are pretty eye opening, allowing a catch on 44.6 percent of the passes thrown into his coverage, giving up just 259 yards and one touchdown over the year, while picking off three passes and breaking up seven more. All that adds up to an NFL passer rating of 42.2 on throws into his coverage. King was targeted just 45 times in coverage, giving up just 18 receptions for 224 yards and coming away with two interceptions and eight pass breakups over the course of the year. A complete defender, he also excelled against the run.

Second team: Jaire Alexander, Lousville; Rasul Douglas, West Virginia

(Tank has helped him greatly this year but King is a guy Im fascinated by. I really want to see how he test. He gets a lot shade thrown his way being talked about as "only" a zone corner)

Safety: Jamal Adams, LSU; Nathan Gerry, Nebraska
Adams took his game to a new level in 2016, stepping up as a complete defensive back and one of the best all round players in the nation. Outstanding against the run and coming up to tackle receivers on short passes, Adams has seen 33 of his 55 tackles result in a defensive stop. He has improved in coverage in general too, and played a key part in LSU all but shutting out Ole Miss tight end Evan Engram when the two teams met this year. Like Adams, Gerry keeps his place here from mid-season, excelling in coverage with a PFF grade of 88.7, coming away with four interceptions and six pass breakups and impressing against the run too.

Second team: Marcus Williams, Utah; Budda Baker, Washington

(Just like every other position on D, S is stacked and deep. No doubt Bill is salivating)

Slot cornerback: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama
Another of Alabama’s defensive stand outs, Fitzpatrick has been outstanding when lined up in the slot, and impressed when he’s had to cover at safety too. On the 37 passes thrown into his coverage when lined up in the slot, Fitzpatrick has allowed 17 receptions for 212 yards, with no touchdowns and three interceptions. That was good for an NFL passer rating of just 30.5. For context, the NFL passer rating of dropping back to pass and just throwing the ball away is 39.6. That means it’s smarter for opposing quarterbacks to throw the ball away than try to go after Fitzpatrick in coverage.

Second team: Tre’Davious White, LSU

(Minkah has been a beast this year. Kid has literally played every position in the secondary and excelled. Looks like a great prospect next year. White is another guy who made himself some $ this year. Can't wait to see how/who falls this year. 2nd-3rd round will produce some fantastic impact players)

Special teamer: Branden Leston, Western Kentucky
No player in the nation made as many special teams tackles than Leston, who finished the regular season with 14 solo tackles and two assists. Even better, he didn’t miss a tackle on special teams all year.

Second team: Justin Moody, Eastern Michigan

Wide receiver: Dede Westbrook, Oklahoma; Zay Jones, East Carolina
Two incredible receivers this year, Westbrook and Jones put up eye-popping numbers in different ways. Jones was a ridiculous 217 passes thrown his way, and forced 24 missed tackles over the course of the year and while he benefited from a system that fed him the ball, he made the most of that, dropping just six of the 164 catchable passes thrown his way. Westbrook earned his trip to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist by dropping just four of the 78 catchable passes thrown his way, forcing 25 missed tackles and scoring touchdowns. He finished the year averaging 4.22 yards per route run, the third-best mark in the nation.

(2 guys who wouldbe great here. Westbrook reminds me a lot Emmanuel Sanders. Hes tiny but plays huge and is always open. Jones will be talked about a ton too. Has some shake and wiggle)

Tight end: O.J. Howard, Alabama
With 37 receptions for 445 yards, and a yards per route run average of 1.54, along with providing a safe pair of hands for true freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts, Howard was a solid receiver at tight end this year. Where he truly separates himself from his peers though is as a run blocker. There wasn’t a better run-blocking tight end in college football this year, and he impressed in arguably the toughest conference defensively.

(One of the more interesting guys in the draft. Huge guy that has improved every year even if stats don't show it in the box score. Reminds me a lil of Gates in the sense that hes a not a crisp route runner or explodes off the los but is open and just separates)

*EDIT* PFF

I'd say so yes. I was thinking the same when I copied/pasted it but didn't wanna throw it out. I mean their different players with a same skill set.

How about jordan Leggett the te from Clemson, I think he could be a good pick. Probably a late 1st rounder if they really wanted him.

I could see them trying to get jermaine gresham as a fa possibly. Maybe the safety from kc, forgot his name, he'd be expensive though.

I haven't seen Leggett listed higher than a second round pick, but I suppose he could rise after the bowl season and Combine. If we're going TE in the first, Howard would be my guy.

Berry? Way too expensive. If he hadn't missed time with injuries, he'd be considered the best FS in the league, right there with Thomas.

Yes Howard might be gone though. I wonder how expensive berry would be, pats have a lot of cap space. An idea.
