Is it about time for a new FG Kicker?????

we're going to have ride Gost this year. Hopefully he rebounds back into form. Hopefully we don't need him to kick a game winning fg this year

Perhaps he just needs a therapist.

Maybe we can get Billy Cundiff. He was good to us when he was with the Ravens.

We can't settle for field goals in the play offs anyway. Then again we might want to consider going for 2 when get a TD. lol jk.. I hope

The reality is we can't likely get anyone better and we have already paid him. He just needs to either get out of his funk or not.

Midseason there will always be a reason a kicker would be available and Gould I think has shown a history of success and has kicked in bad weather. That's why if a move was made I'd think it would be for a guy like Gould. Ideally Gost will come out of his funk.

Gostkowski has shown a history of success and has kicked in bad weather his entire career, including playoff games and Super Bowls...

What exactly would Gould be bringing to the table/upgrading?

I know, that's why if we got rid of Ghost I'd want a guy like Gould.

Truth be told I don't actually want to get rid of Ghost. It was more venting. I don't really think they would or should get rid of Gost right now. I will say though, with Belichick you never know. We have seen time and again that he takes all emotion out of his decision making and does what he feels is best for the team. If Collins can be let go for practically nothing I don't see why it's unfathomable that he could do the same to a struggling Gost.

I wrote here months ago (you can look it up - I'm too lazy to) that in my opinion this situation isn't going to improve. I'm perpetually a glass is half full guy, but I believe Ghost is cooked. He may make a bunch of field goals the rest of the way, but he won't make a season-changing one. I think he's done as a franchise kicker. I hope I'm wrong because he's been a great Patriot for a long, long time. I'm really sad about it. But, I believe it's over for him.

I tend to agree.....Not sure what his problem is, but his performance in the clutch down the stretch and in the playoffs may well determine his future with Patriots.....Do I hope he pulls a few AV's...sure I do, but he has to Do His Job......he is paid to kick.....missing PATs is a sin ...short FG's should be automatic.....I never got on his case for missing 50 yarders, or 45+ yarders for that matter........It seems that NO FG is a sure thing with him anymore........He won't be on the team next year if it isn't fixed.....BB will do everything he can to help him fix it, but it's up to Gost to make the kicks, BB can't do it for him....

The best you are going to find on the scrapheap is Blair Walsh....a few weeks ago it would have been Gould, who is quickly reminding everyone why he was on the scrapheap. Then again, you have Josh Brown, but lets not go there.

Ghost is here for this season...after that he is either given another go next year, or a college kicker gets his chance.

Yes, it is nervy everytime her tries to make a kick, but there aren't a load of guys just waiting to take over.

He is very unreliable at this point but not sure who there is to replace him/better kickers.

Not now. I can think of a few available kickers: Randy Bullock, Josh Brown (not happening), Fairbairn (UCLA) and a bunch of other college UDFAs. I doubt any are better than Gost.

How many times has a great hitter, pitcher or goalie had to struggle? You just have to be patient and ride this one out. Knowing how good Gost is most of the time, I like to think he is just hitting a rough patch. Maybe it is a physical injury or a mental issue and he is seeing a sports shrink. I would like to think that BB has his thumb on it and is confident he will be righted by playoff time.

I think we tried changing our strategy on kickoffs a little bit and Gost made some FGs. We should try to come up with another plan for kickoffs and let Gost make FGs. I'd rather give opponents a slighlty shorter field than risk Gost missing more FGs. As good as he's been throughout his career we can't risk him missing FGs in playoffs. Every single game could be a dog fight and we don't want to rely on his inconsistency this year to help us win.

If we lose a playoff game because of him this year, then I'll think it is time to have this discussion. Until then, too soon.

I don't think we lost last year's AFCC game because of him, but it sure didn't help.

Well...I found out one thing about taking a stand one way or another on a player......the more controversial the subject, the more people will disagree....especially if it's their binky....LOL

Just because the Patriots can pull wins out even if Gost costs them points isn't a reason not to discuss a potential problem.......We are SO DAMN LUCKY to have TB as our QB.......:D

I hate to be a chicken little but I've seen this movie too many times before.....

What movie is that?

Gostkowski has hit 283-of-336 career field goal attempts, and his 86.8 percent accuracy rate is the highest in Patriots history and third-best in NFL history.

It's panic like this that separates the worst teams, who have high picks every year, from the successful ones.
