Sucks, bigtime.

Marty Schottenheimer battles Alzheimer’s disease

“He’s in the best of health, [but] sometimes he just doesn’t remember everything,” said Pat Schottenheimer, Marty’s wife of 48 years. “He functions extremely well, plays golf several times a week. He’s got that memory lag where he’ll ask you the same question three or four times. . . . He remembers people and faces, and he pulls out strange things that I’ve never heard, but he’s doing well. It’s going be a long road. We both know that.”

Sorry to hear this. Prayers for him, his wife and his family.

O Father of mercies and God of all comfort, our only help in time of need:
We humbly beseech thee to behold, visit, and relieve thy sick servant Marty for whom our prayers are desired.
Look upon him with the eyes of thy mercy; comfort him with a sense of thy goodness;
preserve him from the temptations of the enemy;
and give him patience under his affliction.
In thy good time, enable him to lead the residue of his life in thy glory;
and grant that finally he may dwell with thee in life everlasting;
through ************ our Lord.

Amen.

Man that really sucks. Theres a lot of things in this world i wouldnt wish on my worst enemy and this is def one of them. Saddest for the family, my fiance works with alzheimer patients and I couldnt imagine watching a family member go through this and hopefully I dont ever have to.

Good coach I really loved his commitment to running the ball. Even though I was a pats fans some of those 80s Browns team with Mack and Byner were awesome to watch as a kid and later on KC. Terrible disease to have and really hard on his family. Best wishes to him and the family.

Great Head Coach

I always wished that he would have stayed in the NFL and won a Championship. Those Browns teams were loaded and some exciting football. Martys pre game speeches were legendary and made you want to run through a wall. Sadly, John Elway kept showing up to rain on Martys parade or something would go wrong like the "Fumble"

Very tough. My thoughts are with his family.

I wonder if this is CTE related?

Sad to read this. My mother suffered from this awful affliction.

So sorry to see this news. PatJew I know all too well of what you speak. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

Marty was an excellent head coach for sure, and if I'm not mistaken (going from memory rather than Googling) he was one-time Boston Patriot linebacker.

I hope he keeps that "gleam" for a long while (Google it, its a true Marty-ism of which he produced many)

I understand the attempt at humor, but if you had a close friend or family member and experienced it then you'll understand why this isn't very humorous.

I know the post was just a joke, but it is a living hell for the person. To have a thought, start to speak, and then be unable to finish cause you couldn't remember. It robs the person of his humanity, to be able to interact with those around him. You lose interest in all that you love. It is simply awful.

Terrible disease to be diagnosed with. Hopefully it won't be too hard on his family.

Went through it with my grandmother. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Worse than death at the end, I wish him and his family the very best of luck.

I've also had someone close to me have it. It's beyond cruel.
