Awesome, it'd be hard for Marty to leave here and I hope the Seahawks don't make a play for him. Didn't know Michael was his bro but, I love that he's one of the few guys that stands up for Brady being tough.

not sure anyone would want to deal with those 2 running around in the lockerroom.........though if it did happen, I would prefer that micheal came here

i thought the same thing. letting an asset like bennett languish on the bench is really bad coaching. adapt your offense to the players you have--don't try to shoehorn your players to fit your offense.
Reminds me of when the Bucs cut Revis because his price didn't match what they would have him do lol...have an all time great man corner and you decide to go with another scheme. Genius.

value is not the point......the boys are who they are and are pretty up front and don't mince words......the truth is that both guys do come off as ****s and there's no reason to hide that....

I agree. I have no problem with the tell it like it is folks but shredding people just doesnt get them anywhere IMO

though one could argue that there's value in the point of correcting the perception that bennett was the problem......you could see where a free thinker would struggle in ****holes like that

Yep. Thats where I think the value is as well. Marty thinks hes received a bad rap and hes fighting back. Thats understandable.

Haha he's a little out there (ok waaaaaay out there) but man is he funny and fun to watch and listen to. Had me laughing a few times. I'm real glad he's happy here and getting along with the team. I hope it stays that way and he and the patriots have a long successful relationship.

Comments about Witten were pretty interesting, and yeah, i had no idea it was THAT bad in Chicago either. Like WTF was that punk ass move from the practice footage??? And then the organization treats him like the *******? I understand there are always two sides to a story but from what I've seen the only conclusion I can make is **** that bears team. Oh and **** brandon marshall too.

i vaguely remember when that incident happened, so i went back to look it up. it seems pretty obvious from the video that fuller brought bennett down by his facemask, the way he whips around like that, and fuller doesn't seem to be concerned about his well-being afterward, so it's understandable why he got pissed.

i think the thing that pissed MB off about the coaching staff is that they didn't believe his version of events. if you look at the stories after the incident, they say that fuller either brought down MB by pulling him down by his pads, or else that the video is inconclusive as to whether fuller grabbed his facemask:

ESPN: Bears suspend Bennett for fight with Fuller
While attempting to force a fumble, Fuller grabbed near the chest area of Bennett's shoulder pads and pulled him to the ground. Bennett rose to his feet, walked toward Fuller and pushed him before body-slamming the rookie to the ground.

Chicago Tribune: Bennett salty after scrap ends Bears' practice early
The hit from rookie cornerback Kyle Fuller was hard, a tad high and packed enough force that it sent Bears tight end Martellus Bennett to the ground.

Bennett's reaction — or overreaction — was both explosive and disruptive, packing enough rage that it convinced coach Marc Trestman to call off practice approximately 10 minutes early Monday, pushing the team directly into a walk-through to calm the tension.

The Sporting News: Martellus Bennett suspended after body slamming rookie in Bears training camp
Unless they turn ugly, like the one in Bears camp Monday. Tight end Martellus Bennett didn't at all appreciate rookie cornerback Kyle Fuller's attempt to strip the ball from Bennett's grasp. Maybe he got a piece of Bennett's facemask; it's hard to tell.

couple that with what MB said that the coaches told him over the phone, it seems pretty clear to me that they didn't believe he got facemasked, and that was the story they put out to the press. so they basically told him 1) you're a liar and 2) we don't care about your health.

he could have mailed it in that season and quit on the team, but he had the best season of his career with 90 receptions for 916 yards and 6 TDs.

the guy just wants to be treated fairly and to win. he gets both with the patriots.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. It seemed like ESPN focused more on Martellus.

Martellus is a creative genius. It's evident from the video his passion for creativity. Sure he speaks his mind but he means no harm. He must be as fun Gronk in the locker room. I hope one day Michael can come and play for Pats as well.

I would believe that that had more to do with Jerry Jones than with Garret. Jones trying to reclaim the days of the big 3 (Emmitt, Irving and Aikman) which did not include a dual TE set.

That would be insane if they both played here.

Outstanding video.

There was so much to take out of this; some thoughts.

Bennett points out that BB allows him to be himself, and you consistently hear that from other Pats players as well. Terrence Knighton got cut in pre-season and sounded like one of us when discussing it, like a Pats fan.

Team chemistry is so underrated, and BB talks about it all of the time, how each team is different personalitywise, and you may not know how together the team is going to be until later in the season. I think it is something that BB strives to attain, and it may even play into some of the personnel moves that seem otherwise inexplicable.

I think most of us here, with a handful of exceptions, know that we know so little about these players, and understand that the professionals have so much more information that goes into personnel decisions.

BB is building a functional team, not collecting talent.

I know that I have suggested that maybe getting a guy like Witten as a rental may be a good move to get us over the hump and get another ring. Now I had this thought prior to this season, so it was pre-Bennett, but I was unaware of how he treated Bennett, and that he was not a team player. Getting a guy like Witten may be a gain on talent, but a loss on team unity.

Now I know there are lots of Witten-types on the league, but I know that BB and his staff are much more aware of this dynamic than we fans will ever be.

Adding a guy like Adalius Thomas may blow up on you, as it did for the Pats.

OK, I don't want to ramble on and make this post so long it becomes unreadable, so I'll just close with I hope the Pats can find a way to keep Bennett. It won't be easy, but may be well worth it, and unless it is the Seahawks who come in with the big contract offer, the Pats and BB, and of course TFB, have a shot.

Sorry but just from College every year they tried to trot in some freshman who was a stud in his HS and supposedly faster than me blah blah blah. I didnt go out of my way to help any of them. Maybe the pros is different since its alot more that 4 years but sorry no thanks. Maybe I was being selfish but I liked the field and I liked scoring TDs and sorry but not going out to my way to help these guys.

So from that standpoint I sort of see Wittens angle (plus in the pros thats his $). NFL is a business. I think Brady is sort of that way and certainly seemed like Farve was in GB. Rodgers didnt learn from Farve he learned from watching Farve and being around him.

i've only heard reports of other players saying that brady was always helpful. in general, it seems like most players on the patriots go out of their way to help new players with the playbook.

what was your team's record when you played?

It should be noted that the brothers made most of this clip BEFORE the season started, with the Cleveland clips added to the story for emphasis. While I liked the clip, it was a typical BSPN effort, playing up the controversial aspects of the comments instead of emphasizing the uniqueness of the brothers' personalities and the different routes to the NFL. The REAL story I got from this film is, while the 2 brother's are beasts, their DAD is the man.

I have always liked Michael Bennett. I liked his play. I liked his directness. I liked that he defended Tom Brady as not only a good QB, but as a tough one. I really like his brother. I like his play, of course, but I also like his multifaceted personality. Shame on Witten for treating him like a rival and not a teammate. Shame on the Cowboys for trying to put a round peg into a square hole instead of developing an offense for the talent at hand. Shame on the Bears for throwing him under the bus for the Fuller affair. Kudos for Bill for making to work with this atypical Patriot.

I originally thought that this would be a one year stay because how do you pay for 2 elite TE's. HOWEVER Miguel (in another thread) has opined a possible 2 year extension that would keep him around for 2 more years. It gives him a significant raise (averaging $7MM/yr). Taking it would make him one of the top 10 paid TE's. It likely wouldn't be the best offer he could get, but it is good enough that it would test his own words about winning, having fun, and being with a team that lets him be him. Most importantly its a deal that they could do THIS season and still leave us with plenty of cap room to cover emergencies.

The only POSSIBLE negative to this deal would be how it would be received by all the OTHER potential FA's to see a new guy get paid, while they are still waiting.

This has nothing to do with other players, I loved my team mates. This has everything to do with the guy they bring in to directly/compete and replace you at your position. We were about .500 depending on the year but I can say I played for a one loss team in another program as a Freshman and my reception from the older guys was about the same at my position. This has everything to do with what position you play.

Here is a link on Brady

and that's the same mindset that the front office needs to use in making decisions........a year too soon is still better than a year too late

I tried to look up online to see if we can actually buy any of the toys shown in the video but coulnd't find them. Anyone here know if they're actually sold ?

I'm not saying your wrong or selfish but I would say that it seems that Brady has a decent relationship with Garoppolo but will compete (successfully) with him for the QB spot.

It could be the environment that BB has established dictates healthy competition. I saw Gronk run over to Bennett after his third TD holding up 3 fingers in celebration which would support that view.

Volin also believes Kraft sells Mac & Cheese. So there's that. He's such a useless source.

Using a Volin piece to try and prove a point isn't wise.. Its the next thing to using Goodell as a reference ;)

I just think there is likely a large number of people that could step forward and say what Bennett is saying about a guy who was a vet on a team at the same position but it really breaks alot of the locker room code to do so. While Rodgers or Farve never say it you can pretty much infer it. IMO this behavior is fairly commonplace at higher levels in many sports but its just unspoken. A quick google search reveals a bunch of articles on the rodgers/farve topic but Rodgers never came out to say it.

But clearly Marty cant be muted after he leaves some place. I just didnt see the fact that Witten didnt help him much as a shock, more that Marty brought attention to it.

You're right, it is Witten's $. The fact that he chooses to keep his wisdom to himself is a clear indication of valuing his $ over the team. Just one of many reasons why the Cowboys suck nowadays.
