afc week 5 playoff seedings.GIF
Anybody who thought Oakland would be #1 after 5 weeks raise your hand...

I like that Oakland is leading AFC west. I love that Pats are still atop AFC East. No suprises there. PIT looks scary though. If I am not mistaken, we play them on the road this season and their offense looks real good. We did well playing in PIT in the past but we also lost a game couple of yrs ago.

All that said, it's only week 5 and too early to start talking playoff seedings :D

who gives a crap....the falcons were 5-0 last year and then they were 6-7

this is meaningless

oh, gee, yeah.......in august, I was wondering what the raiders record would be after 5 weeks

It's early. But I will say that I predicted the Raiders would make the playoffs.

My hope is the Raiders can split with Denver. Their D sucks but their O might be good enough to pull it off in Oakland. Besides that I could be them being upset just cause their O turns it over 4+ times at some point.

The Steelers have very few hard games this year. Pats and @Ravens and maybe Dallas but I am not overly confident they will lose much.

The Pats have a hard road to the #1 seed.

I think 14-2 does it regardless of who the loss is to or 13-3 with having a key tie breaker.

I don't think 12-4 gives you the #1 seed this year.

This thread is not only early, its about 6 games too early. Thinking about this now is worse that those so called power rankings

I actually learned something from the seedings... I thought Denver was #1 at this point... they're not even division winners.

Oakland isn't there to stay, unless they have a run of luck on par with the 2013 Falcons where they manage to win virtually every close, high-scoring game they play. Their defense sucks, and statistically an all-world QB is the only thing that has been shown to help teams consistently come out on top in these situations. I like Carr, but he's not there yet. Along the same vein I like Oakland, but I see them more as a 9-10 win, probable wildcard team rather than a contender for the #1 seed.

It's looking right now like the AFC is going to be a three horse race for seeding between the Pats, Broncos, and Steelers. And now that we've all laid one egg, we're back to square one. The Pats are a little behind by virtue of their loss being to an AFC team, but we'll have head to head matchups against both to take care of business, so hopefully we'll take advantage of those opportunities.

let me know when playoff seedings at week 5 matter

The reason why this is too early is because the tie breakers will radically shift over the coming weeks. None of the 4 4-1 teams have played each other - yet. Denver doesn't even have a divisional game under their belt yet so it is silly to give Oakland the division based on the fact they are 1-0 in division.

Get back to us in December.

Under normal circumstances this would be early. However, under Fraudger's leadership and the FUFL's quest for parity, the playoff seedings can now be fairly predicted by Thanksgiving, or Christmas at the latest.

The AFC will be represented by the Pats, Denver and KC, two of Pitt, Baltimore or Cincy, Indy and/or maybe Houston. The only new team making noise is the Raiders. Unfortunately for them, I placed a 25 year curse on them in 2001, and they won't be winning anything until the year 25AB.

The NFC playoffs look mostly the same every year too, and will consist of Seattle and/or Arizona, Atlanta and/or Carolina, Seattle, Green Bay and now Minny. The only place where there's some parity is in the NFCE, and that's because they all stink.

Great job Ommish.

At this point, it's us and the Steelers that look the most dangerous, but a lot can happen. Big Ben can't stay healthy, we need a health O-Line and Gronk, etc...

Where would early speculation threads be without the grumpy 'it is too early for this!' posts?

Oh wait, I know, those of us who enjoy early speculation because we realize nothing we do as fans matter would just enjoy them without the unnecessary finger wagging from people who probably also reminded teacher to pass out homework in school.
