JJ Watt apparently to miss extended period of time.

Welp. It appears we may have accidentally let the Colts back into the postseason when they win the South at 8-8...:rolleyes:

I'm licking my chops. OHHH, just the thought:p.

But, as far as JJ, I don't want to see any player out. By injury or frame job.

Hahaha this feels like a Peyton move... "oh, I didn't REALLY get manhandled, I was actually playing through injury... an injury so bad it could keep me out all year! ... which I will now miraculously recover from, because I'm so tough."

Sucks hard for him, but there were plenty of signs that he may be rushing back from his initial back injury, which is... never recommended. Hopefully he learned his lesson and will proceed a lot more cautiously this time around, too much at stake career-wise not to. Maybe Larry Bird can have a chat with him.

Also, his performance last Thursday makes a lot more sense knowing this. He looked good at the start, but as the game wore on he didn't look anywhere near as explosive or powerful as I've seen him look in the past. It was really confusing to watch Cannon borderline manhandle Watt, then struggle with someone like DJ Reader. I wonder if there was one particular play that did it, I have a few candidates in mind.

Rushed back from back surgery, what a great idea.

Now starring in the remake of "Touched By An Angel" Episode 1- "JJ Watt's Back", Ashley Manning.

Can't say I enjoy JJ. He likes him some him. Yet, in key spots, where is he ?

I just checked the Texans' messageboard and it looks like they suspect Watt was never fully healed and the Texans management was allowing him to play injured.

So, how should the NFL* respond to a team jeopardizing a star player's health since he helps sell tickets?

With news like this, you can't blame Gronk for taking it slow. I'd rather gronk is available for the post season.

If I had to guess at the play that did it, here's one that would be a good place to look first. We lined up Cannon, Fleming, Gronk and Bennett to the right, and Cannon and Fleming doubled Watt. Hit him hard right off the LOS, and he went down right away in a kinda awkward position.

From that point onward he really seemed to be struggling, in a way I haven't seen him struggle before. Both Cannon and Thuney handled him with ease; much easier than they handled lesser players that they blocked on other plays. For example, on the very next play Watt tried to bull rush Cannon, but Cannon handles him very easily - he's too high up, has no leverage, and doesn't look like he's generating much power as a result:

And just a few plays after that, he got dropped on his ass again, this time on a Cannon / Gronk double team:

It's unusual to see Watt get knocked on his back once in a game, let alone twice in a couple plays like that, even against double teams. And maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it sure looks like he was too high and stiff on those last couple plays, which could well be a sign that his back was hurting him.
