2017 Draft Prospect Thread

In my mind, we have a chance to draft two monsters at ot.

In the first round is the mountain lot from ucla. Very good in the zone blocking scheme.

  • In the second round the monster rot from Arkansas, he is a run blocking beast with the feet to be good in pass protection.
As opposed to drafting bad offensive linemen?

To me far and away the #1 need is OT. We need someone to replace Vollmer and Solder very soon as well as just be a good 3rd OT.

RB would be nice to get too but imo wait till round 2-3.

2nd TE will likely be an issue.

QB, WR, G and C is set. You can fill in as needed throw FA with them.

DT Knighton and Branch are not long for the team. You want to get another big DT most likely.

DE seems okay as long as we sign Sheard but if a guy falls sure.

LB is set cause we will keep both Collins and Hightower. If not i will be ticked.

DBs are okay. Maybe get a good FS to replace Harmon though and CB seems fine likely.

I would say without looking at players by round

1 OT
2 DT
3 RB
4 TE

whatever else.

I think this list is spot on. I particularly agree that FS could be a need, albeit not a premier one. I probably will still, but this might be the first year in a while I don't focus on WRs.

Bob & Manx: I respect your opinions immensely, but I am unsure if I agree with your WR prognosis. Edelman is a lock. Amendola has had numerous injuries, however, and his cap hit next year is nearly $8M if I recall correctly. Hogan is promising, but unproven in this scheme. He could very well go the way of LaFell. Mitchell looks great, and I'm excited about his future as long as his knees hold up okay. Beyond that, we have a bunch of fringe guys and underperforming players. I'm not seeing a lot of reliability or star power at that position long term -- at least not yet.

I'd love to see Mitchell emerge as a premier player. I'd love to see Dobson salvage his career. I'd be ecstatic if some of the younger guys step up and become long-term fixtures. That said, I absolutely see room on next year's roster for a talented pass-catcher. We'll see how it all shakes out.

Well a lot of this depends on how certain guys do. Me saying we don't need a WR is based on the assumption next year Edelman, Hogan & Mitchell will all be good options. If I am not confident that is the case then I might be more prone to look into other WR options but for now I am going with this being the case. Amendola might be gone next year or might be here. Depends on if he renegotiates his deal. If he does I would be happy to keep him as a 4th and Martin/Dobson as the 5th option. I think that would be perfectly fine. If not Martin as a 4th is not horrible and you can draft low or look for UDFAs or low cost FAs to get a WR.

There of course is always room for a talented player at any position. However if the top 3 options look good i would not be inclined to spend a top 4 round pick on a WR unless one just screams value.

Well I wouldn't rule out a day three guy but unless a top talent falls, I'd be surprised if they went for one higher. Of course the season hasn't started yet so this is all projection and conjecture. Plenty will change.

While he's undersized, Evan Engram reminds me more of Hernandez in the open field than any TE I've seen in the last half dozen years. Such quick feet and a gliding running style. He could play WR or a big slot position. Really like him.

Obligatory highlight reel:

Very nice highlight reel and he's good. My one issue, in terms of a Hernandez comp was that Hernandez could line up inline and be effective if needed. Using Hernandez really blurred the lines between ehether there would be a run or pass. I don't think Engram does that. He's also listed at 227lbs, Hernandez was 245. That's why Hernandez was so unique.

Another Hernandez just isn't gonna happen

I know Manx already profiled Corey Davis last year, but Davis stayed in school instead of declaring. The main weaknesses he had in his scouting profiles: getting off press, timing his jumps correctly for contested balls, and downfield blocking. He has bulked up to over 220 this season, and specifically targeted each of those areas for improvement. I found some great articles hyping his offseason. Seems like a good kid with an excellent attitude, who is willing to put in the hard work.

I liked bim last year. Looking forward to seeing him this year. I think it will take a first or second to get him though.

For all the talk about McCaffrey being a perfect Patriots type player (and he is although I'm not sure about the value), does anyone think Jabrill Peppers is the defensive version of McCaffrey? Plays safety, CB, and LB.

I assume Peppers will go top ten, but if he's available when we pick, I will crash the draft and personally write his name on a draft card for the Patriots draft slot.
