Report: Vollmer headed to IR

The optimistic view:

For whatever reason, Cannon is just a better player with Scarnecchia. He played better against the Bears than he did at any point last year. His best year was 2013 with Scar. I'm hopeful he can play a solid RT this year.

I love Lewis, but he's a luxury. White is a very good receiving back and similar running to Vereen. I don't think we could rely on Lewis to carry the running load this year even if he were healthy. Simply put, Blount, Gaffney, or some new acquisition have to step up. Additionally, in 3rd and long situations this year, I'd like to see a 3 WR, 2 TE set with Edelman, Amendola, Hogan, Gronk, and Bennett. In the past, there has always been a RB on the field, but I think this gives us a "best 5" receivers look for obvious passing situations.
That RB is there for protection as much as he is to catch balls.

Well the good news is as follows

RT is easier to cover for than LT. Hopefully Vollmer is back for the home stretch.
Lewis though a very good player has White to back him up who is more than competent.
Mason though a good player was not likely going to be the clear starter and just one of the guys in the rotation so not a ton is lost wit him.
Brady will be fine in a few days.

The key is all of these people can come back for the playoffs.

First of all Id like to congratulate you for your optimism.
Its not gonna be as easy as that though.

@ Vollmer - by reports is probable that Vollmer is out for the season. Its not only about RT and Cannon, this news opens a serious depth issue at OT in general.
@ Lewis - How White becomes a competent Lewis replacement (its not about backing up!) after most of this board wanted to cut him after last season is quite strange.
@ Mason - After Cooper going down and him returning, Mason was a TC starter at RG. With Kline suffering vs Bears after injuring shoulder there's no healthy experienced RG anymore. And that will affect Cannons play as well.

The only good news today is that the Pats are still allowed to play the 4 games and fight no matter what.

I must say Cannon is playing much better this preseason. A healthy toe and scarnnechia's coaching seems to have helped him.

Mac you know what the Greeks did to messengers bearing bad news right?
Today it's not sounding so bad.

I hope there is a move we can make. I have zero faith in Marcus Cannon. Thank God Scar is back...I hope he can prevent a meltdown. Terrible news.

We can survive w/o Dion Lewis. White can adequately fill the role of a receiving back. The actual running is a problem...better hope Blount performs well enough.

Makes no sense to put him on IR when they can keep him on PUP.

Maybe the Pats can trade for 49ers RT Anthony Davis! He doesn't want to be there!

There are two injuries referenced in various articles today. He has a hip injury which I believe, is why he was on PUP, but with the report that he just had shoulder surgery as well, it looks like that is the reason for the possible IR.

I hope Waddle is healthy, I can't watch Cannon on that right side any more, I can't do it...

I hope Dante can work with Cannon and have him become a more consistent player, otherwise we're going to be in some trouble, especially if something happens to Solder now.
I'm thinking the same thing. Cannon worries me. Solder can be a turnstile at times too. Come on Scar, do ur thang!

From what I've read, he's probably getting cut. He just hasn't been any good at all.
He had a pretty good game last week against Houston, but I don't know how he did yesterday. I do know he's unhappy there.

I thought he did play well Thursday.
I think I'm the only person on this board who thinks Cannon can play a solid RT.

With what he did healthy last year and in 2013 plus with Scar coaching him, I think he'll be a pleasant surprise this year to all.

I think Googs really f-ed him up.
