Bedard: Goodell stronger than ever

I agree that he is stronger than ever. He gained tons of support from those who wanted to see Kraft and the Pats laid low, and didn't even lose Kraft and his supporters (if there were any) in the process.

The owners don't care what the fans think of the commissioner, so long as revenues keep rising. At this point, they probably see it as a plus that he is so hated.

None of this is news.

Goodell is paid $40 million per year to do exactly what the leadership among the Owners wants him to do.

If I had to bet, I'd bet that Kraft fell on his sword in 2007 in front of his then best buddy Roger Goodell and saved Belichick from a suspension. But, he succeeded only over the objection of other powerful Owners. So, this time they insisted that the Patriots take it up the butt. Unfortunately, Brady was the victim along with the lost opportunities Draft-pick wise.

But, even if you don't buy my guess about what happened, it doesn't matter. I'm just guessing and your guess is as good as mine.

The Owners had it in for the Patriots and they made Goodell their errand boy to execute it, truth and facts be damned as long as the CBA let them get away with it.

There's nothing we can do about that.

The only satisfaction and revenge is a Fifth Lombardi for Brady and Belichick. That is all we should give a **** about.

I think the scenario you put forth is very plausible. I also think they desperately wanted BB's head on a stick and when it became obvious that he was far removed from the deflation nonsense, they went after the next best target. I think the other owners felt that if they could nail BB solidly on the deflation in the wake of Spygate, the possibility of a year long, if not longer suspension would be in order.

It's amazing, the world we live in today. It's, jump on the bandwagon, and go with the majority.... Until it happens to you. The other owners will feel the pain from the other 31 at some point or another. I really, really want to tell them all to shove it. As I've said it before, I'm hanging by thread, for (most of) the players.

If any of you want to talk to me, I'll be at the Plaza Hotel...enjoy...

Just wait until Goodell screws up the next time. It will be time for Kraft to bend over and lose another draft pick. That is what happens when you let your team be the whipping boy for the league.

My money is on the new concussion protocol rules. Others will lose 6th or 7th rounders, but when it's our turn we'll be "repeat offenders" and lose multiple high picks.

So when this began, Kraft had a reasonably good relationship with Goodell and the other owners, and a pretty good one with the Pats' fan base. He's lost both.

Sewed the seeds himself.

As far as I am concerned, it's all about the players even if they are too stupid to realize they are there own worst enemy. Shutting down the NFL for a year or two would be the best outcome of this cluster *** for me. YMMV

The psychology of it is that no individual player thinks it will happen to them (unfair discipline), or at least that it is very unlikely (which it is), so this will never be an issue that mobilizes the players. Contrast that with revenue share % or salary cap which has a certain, concrete impact on their lives. That was what held up the works last time.

Roger will be coming for BB for cursing

He is as strong as the owners want him to be. They wanted the Patriots to be punished so their chances automatically improve, if were the Jaguars instead of the Patriots, there would be no such thing as deflategate.

If they had Pete Carroll as coach this would have been at most a small fine.. I contend the target all along has been BB, I believe this is a two strikes league...

They could not implicate BB, so they went after the next best thing..

Just win the bowl. Screw them all, they will get theirs. Marty and Gronk and devastation.

It's absolutely sad that a Multi-Billion dollar industry can have a majority of 31 owners outright LIE and essentially hamstring a team in the name of "competition" and the FEDS not step in. If this happened in the MLB, you'd know the Feds would be all over it. Oh wait, they are.. (See the hacking done by the St. Louis Cardinals). If it was done in the NBA, the Feds would be investigating it.. OH wait. they did..

I know I'm not a lawyer but this boggles my mind that this isn't racketeering and a violation of the RICO statutes.. You have a majority of the teams conspiring against one team to rig the game and future seasons. The league launched a massive smear campaign against the team and it's best player and they had NO PROOF at all of any impropriety.

This sort of garbage didn't happen with the Dolphins when Shula was in charge. And Shula was a bigger prick than Belichick ever could be. They had winning records in 14 of 16 seasons and went to 5 SBs.

This sort of garbage didn't happen with the 49ers who had a winning record in 17 of 18 seasons from 81-98 and also went to 5 SBs. OH, yeah. They they actually CHEATED the salary cap after it was instituted in 94 and they weren't punished as severely as the Patriots.

Or the Cowboys from 1966 through 1985. 20 straight years of winning records.. 5 SB appearances.

So, god forbid the Patriots turn their franchise around and have success? They have to be punished for it?

While still a fan of football, the sport, I find it difficult to be as involved as a fan of the NFL brand of football after this whole cluster. I cheer for the players, especially the players who have been with the team for quite some time, and of course Belichick.

Maybe the day will come where I feel different, but for now and the foreseeable future, I'm all set with buying NFL branded merchandise and with Snow White/Goodell and all 32 dwarves. Screw 'em.
Yeah, i understand. Ive watched a few red sox and celtics games, and felt i wasn't watching something that was tainted, wich is the feeling i get when i watched the nfl the last couple of years. To me the NFL has really become like the WWF, a charade.
