I mean... someone has to do something about this. This is a complete outrage. I want his head on a pike.

So that's how it is I guess 500 some odd days of BS and day one of Camp and no one cares that media silenced us. I saw maybe one tweet about a few signs and other than Reiss' inaccurate comments nothing about Free Brady no one mentioned it.

If there is one reporter I could trust, it's Mike Reiss and I'm talking about all reporters, not just sports ones. I think he writes every piece in good faith.

I truly appreciate your post, and there is in fact important, relevant substance to it. It is a fact of life that we will always be subject to ridicule whenever we try to point out something that may appear shortsighted to the...shortsighted. I have pointed out here before that I would not work for BSPN no matter how much they offered. If anybody wants to see accurate, objective, unbiased coverage of anything in today's media, they will be mostly disappointed. Given the extraordinary, Nazi-like lengths to which BSPN goes to disparage and denigrate the Patriots, I believe he may have been edited. In any case, no matter how nice a person Reiss seems to be, his employer, as I've pointed out here before, is totally devoid of credibility.

Please continue to make good contributions like this, thank you.

I hear that. But I've always been a Reiss sympathiser. He made a move he & his family thought was the right one for them. His personality isn't to be the usual espn blowhard. He is calm and non-aggressive. He sticks to info instead of glitz.

I understand the criticism - but I can't be anti-Reiss, in the end. I think he's a pretty good guy who loves what he does and - though frustrated by his employer - like many of us has to eat crap at times to feed his family and keep doing what he loves.

I couldn't have said that any better.

I am sure many of you are aware that I give Reiss as much crap as any other awful sports reporters out there and I have basically come to the conclusion they all suck.

Well here is more evidence of why this is my opinion. This will seem very minor but I find it extremely disingenuous.

In his breakdown of today's practice he wrote this.

My problem is the chants were actually mostly Free Brady chants. I think one time it was Brady-Brady-Brady but at least twice it was Free Brady.
If this is a serious post- then dude, you got issues. Get some help. What a garbage post.

This is ludicrous.

doesn't seem any worse to me than losing it and muttering "************" under your breath about stupid reporters. maybe BB needs therapy too.

I swear I'm not trying to be a **** about this (because sometimes I slip into that territory) or sarcastic, but is this a serious post? Is there an inside joke or something else that I'm missing?

To be honest, I was just thinking today (hearing Reiss on the radio reporting on training camp) how slowly but surely I've just tuned out Reiss as a credible sports reporter - mainly because he's beholden to ESPN

I just can't trust anyone who receives a paycheck from Goodell's Media Mafia - sorry Mike - no offense - but you hurt your career and credibility by hitching your wagon to ESPN's horse

How about Tedy Bruschi - same for him?

How about Tedy Bruschi - same for him?

It doesn't help him - but I don't get the sense that Bruschi's ever pulled his punches in his commentary to appease his bosses

I DEFINITELY get that sense with Reiss.

But I'm looking for a different type of commentary from Bruschi anyways

He's generally had Brady and the team's back every step of the way with FrameGate as well - but his job isn't really to analyze the league office and why they so blatantly and corruptly framed Brady - it's to analyze the football team itself... effectively Bruschi is more color commentary on the game and personnel than a "sports journalist"

If Mike Reiss strives to be what Bruschi is (as I think Bruschi is good at what he does), that's fine

But if he considers himself a sports journalist - well, then there's no reason in the world he should be at ESPN

I'm not insulting Reiss - just stating a fact. ESPN has no interest in sports journalism and has the worst reputation for integrity in the sports news world. They might be the most profitable sports network as they cater to some pretty mindless sports fan (and if Profit is Reiss' goal then by all means, sell out for whatever price they agree to pay and stay there...)

But again, there is no overlap between ESPN and quality sports journalism

There's simply no way to sugar coat it

That really bothers you??

Wow

You're right, there is no way to sugarcoat it- you're employing a double standard for Reiss vs. Bruschi.

Do you consider Tedy Bruschi a sports journalist?

I don't

I consider Tedy a football analyst - a former player who brings great insights into game based upon first hand experience guys like Reiss simply can't provide

I USED to consider Reiss a great sports journalist who gave as much honest and intelligent insight to the "game" BEHIND the game, as well as someone who provided intelligent commentary and reporting to the on-field analysis itself (I have to think that some of his Patriots sources might not divulge quite as much to an ESPN employee these days either!)

I think the fact that most fans confuse the two roles at all tells me all I need to know about the status of "sports journalism" period

And it seems to me that ESPN caters specifically to those who can't comprehend the difference between the two
