I've just started early research on next years draft, mainly looking at highlight videos just to acclimate myself to the prospects. First thing to say is that at this early stage, I'm significantly more excited by next years draft than this years. Of course, it's very early days, and I'm only looking at potential first founders for now, but there seems to be a good range of positions that are well represented. RB, WR, TE, EDGE, CB all seem to be well represented. LSU, Tennessee, Alabama, Michigan, USC all seem to have a number of prospects that look interesting.

I'll say this though, I haven't seen many more exciting athletes than Adoree Jackson of USC in any draft.

I haven't been able to spend anywhere near as much time looking at the 2016 draft as I normally would, but one guy already stands out to me for 2017. Before last years draft I mentioned that watching the WR tape the guy that kept stealing my attention was Jalen Ramsey, this year its CB Desmond King from Iowa. He reminds me a lot of Darrelle Revis, lining up all over the field and following the oppositions best WR. The only question would be his speed, hopefully he doesn't run too well and play himself into the top 10. I think it says a lot about a player when you are trying to focus on someone else and they keep stealing your attention, especially as a defensive back.

And of course I would love for Jimmy G to kill it in the first 4 games, trade him for a high first round pick and draft Leonard Fournette. A guy can dream cant he :p

I liked what I saw of King earlier in the year. Add Tre'davious White (sp?), Cameron Sutton, Jalen Tabor, Cordrea Tankersley, Jourdan Lewis, Adoree Jackson and more and the potential for this CB class is really impressive.

As for trading Jimmy G, throw in a first round pick for Malcolm Butler (I'd rather keep him but wouldn't complain about a first) and that could be three firsts next year 2x:p

There will be a lot of talk about RBs in next years draft and quite rightly. One guy I have an eye on that doesn't get mentioned in the same breath as Chubb, Fournette et al is Arizona State's Kalen Ballage. Ballage is 6'3" and 230lbs. Which makes the following tweet a bit of an eye opener:

The fastest speed recorded in the NFL last year according to Next Gen stats was Robert Alford at 22.60 mph.

Ballage has to be the best name for a football player, haha.

I love that you already are on to 2017. Don't you want to savor the agony of watching your binkies go elsewhere this weekend? I know I can't wait! ;)

Drew Morgan is a guy I could see the Patriots liking. Won't go all that high because of his size (6'0, 194) but was 2nd in the SEC in receiving TDs behind Treadwell last year.

At this stage I'm already prepared for losing my binkies. I let go of Braxton a while ago, it'll be Jonathan Williams that'll hurt this weekend. I like some of the other RBs like Booker and Dixon so I'll be OK with their picks but I'll still be sad to see J Will go elsewhere.

As for next year, I never really got into this draft cycle. There are so many prospects I didn't watch. I hope to do a better job next year. At first blush, the potential for the first round next year could be 2011 good.

I've been slowly getting into 2017 because of the loss of the first this year. Something that already caught my attention is the depth at rb. I know we need a lead back to compete with Blount and what not, but I'm thinking if we hold out in drafting one early now an save it for next year then we can possibly get a player next year who is by far better then the crop to choose from this year. But again were a year away from anything being set in stone.

If they all declare, it's a great class. But that's worth bearing in mind, most of the good one's are juniors. Jnr RBs are likely to declare, but it's not a given.

OTs, RBs, TEs and CBs getting 2017 mock draft love so far which ties in well with our potential needs for next year. Really excited by next years class at this early stage. The 2016 class was deep, but wasn't that interesting at the top and wasn't especially athletic. Next years looks much better, albeit reliant on underclassmen as usual.

Completely agree with you. Although I was upset about the robbery of our first round pick it wasnt too devastating to us really because the lack of top tier talent in this draft. I'm not saying that the players were bad, I'm just saying that the talent drop off of the players that would of been available where we would/should of been picking was not that severe to the players that were available when we actually picked. But this upcoming draft has alot of talent throughout the first round and I'm much more excited for next year. I'm also in the early stages of developing my binkies lol.

My draft finger has just started to twitch a little. Went to Draft Breakdown and they have more than 300 videos up already of potential 2017 draft prospects. Yikes.

I'm with you. Ive been looking at rbs. And cristian mccafery( idk if spelled correctly) screams patriot to me. I'm hoping I'm wrong because I would like a back that is great at running between the tackles, but as we all know BB wants someone who is good at multiple areas of the game. But my dream is Dalvin cook to fall to us, I don't even bother trying to come up with scenarios that fournette is available to be taken lol.

I have my eye on Jalen Hurd. 240lbs and runs like someone 20lbs lighter. Quite a class potentially.

i am glad that you guys started, looking forward to read about your binkes and then they will become mine.

Early still, but here's a guy to keep an eye on, given his versatility:

What are the chances McCaffrey declares for the draft this year?

Early still, but here's a guy to keep an eye on, given his versatility:

Before we get into his Freak cred, let’s give him props for this: He was the only player in the nation last year with multiple touchdowns in all three phases of the game with two touchdowns each on offense, defense and special teams. The 5-11, 200-pounder with 4.38 speed benches 370 pounds, deadlifts 515, can vertical 40 inches, broad jumps 11-2 and can do pull-ups toting 150 additional pounds of weight.

Nice spot.
