I blame PTI. Stu schtick was different in flavor but not all that different than Berman's nicknames and funny noises.
I think PTI changed the game, instead of reporting sports it became put two guys on screen and let them argue or act holier than thou.
Wholly schnikies can't we just show some highlights and mix in some humor and call it a night. No need to argue or preach and definitely no need to spread league mandated propaganda. Just show some highlights and get out the way.
Ironically, that's what ESPN used to do. The 1 hour NFL Primetime (I think that was the name) show that Berman and Jackson did was appointment viewing if you were a football fan in the early 90s. This was long before the NFLN and the red zone channel. If you didn't have Sunday ticket, this show was the best way to see highlights of every game.
Jackson will be best remembered for his "error in judgment" on that day. HOWEVER his biggest mistake was NOT that he said that "they hate their coach", but that he stated as if it were a FACT. Let us not forget that they just come off Bill cutting a very popular player, and losing to the team that picked him up 30-0. So when Jackson came out with that "they hate their coach" comment, I'm sure we didn't like to hear it, but if we are being completely honest with ourselves; AT THE TIME, we were all wondering if it were true.
Just because there were/are two dozen bozos that (you) disliked more than him, doesn't mean he wasn't horrible at his job. He was. His anti-Patriot/Belichick agenda was so obvious for so many years and he didn't even try to hide it and he didn't have to. You're at least partially right in that there were people even more obvious with that agenda, i. e. Lewis, Carter, Hodge, Storm, Schlereth, Ditka ,Mortensen (to some degree) et al. But, the bottom line is that all of them flaunted that agenda because the bosses there not only allowed it, they encouraged it. It will be very interesting to see how many of those who got greased end up getting hired elsewhere. To my knowledge, Lewis, Carter and Ditka are still unemployed. Wonder why...Regardless of what Tom Jackson has said about us, I've always liked him. I thought he was one of the few respectable anchors on that network. There are about two dozen bozos that I disliked more than him. At least Jackson had semblance of a real sportscaster, unlike so many of the charlatans they threw out there over the past decade.
Hopefully all these high profile people who are leaving ESPN (probably not by choice) can start giving us a little behind the scenes of how stories are crafted by the execs (aka NFL cronies).
Guess they'll only do that when they retire, otherwise who'd hire whistleblowers.
