Patscap's 53-man roster projection for the Patriots

I think a parrot has taken over his account

...Cannon suffered from turf toe all last season. When healthy he is a respectable swing right tackle. Sea bass and Waddle when healthy, are more than adequate swing LOTS...
There is no such thing as a swing right tackle;

Waddle has never played LT in the NFL;

and based on his performance last season, Vollmer is by no means a more than adequate LT.

What free agent worthy of starting would accept backup money?

What team can afford to pay a player slated to be a backup starting money?

The salary cap and the free agent market make the quest for starting quality backups extremely difficult, and therefore very rare.

You mean he's never played LT other than when he played LT last year, for the Patriots. He also lined up at LT in minicamp.

We can debate as to whether Waddle can be a good LT, or if that's his best spot. But saying he's never played there is untrue. He has. And it seems he will get the shot to do so again this year.

My current 53 (after everyone is back).

Offense 25

QB 3 - Brady, Garo, Brissett
RB/FB 5 - Lewis Blount Bolden Foster Develin
TE 3 - Gronk Bennett Williams
WR 5 - Edelman Amendola Hogan Mitchell Dobson
OT 4 - Solder Vollmer Cannon Waddle
OIL 5 - Andrews Mason Thuney Cooper Kline

Defense 24

DT 4 - Brown Knighton Valentine Kuhn
DE 5 - Sheard Nink Long Flowers Grissom
LB 4 - Collins Hightower Shea Freeny
CB 6 - Butler Ryan Jones Coleman Jones Roberts
S 5 - McCourty Harmon Chung Richards King

STs 4 - Gost Cardona Allen Slater

Edit: Updated.

Toughest cuts: Stork, White, Branch, Martin(if Dobson stays healthy). Harbor/Derby

Top PS Priority

Karras - G, Brock Vereen - DB, Derby - TE, Lucien - WR, Rufus Johnson - LB/Edge,

If you are sure Foster will sign you can keep White and move Foster to the PS.

you can count out Brady for now
i cant see White and Foster both staying - but one can go to PS
i believe Develin sticks
you put Nink twice (probably ment Collins)
6 CBs is excessive

i dont have my 53 since i havent seen anybody yet
i do hope for Gaffney, Foster, KGH, Roberts

its great depth for the moment - a privilege to watch competitions for 53
and another big trade coming will be no surprise

53 Man Roster Predicition:

QB 2: Garrapolo and Brissett
RB 4: Lewis, Blount, Bolden, Foster, White
WR: Edelman, Amendola, Hogan, Dobson, Mitchell, Martin
TE 4: Gronk, Bennett, Develin,
OT 3 Solder, Vollmer, Waddle
OG/C 5: Thuney, Stork, Cooper, Andrews, Mason

Defense 25:
DT 4: Brown, Knighton, Valentine, Branch
DE 5: Sheard, Nink, Long, Flowers, Grissom
LB 5: Hightower, Collins, Shea, Freeney, KGH
CB 6: Butler, Ryan, Jones, Coleman, Jones, Roberts
S 5: McCourty, Chung, Harmon, Richards, King

ST 4 Gost Cardona Allen Slater

Last 4 Spots came down to White, Martin, Gaffney, and Harbor. Assuming no injuries open up spots, KGH goes to practice squad to make room for Brady in Week 5

Had to cut Cannon, not a lot of depth at OT, but Stork/Thuney versatility make it easy for a lot of interior depth

You're right; I had forgotten that Waddle replaced the injured (surprise!) Vollmer at LT vs the Jesters in New Joisy, for 37 snaps (during which he was terrible) before becoming injured himself and never seeing the field for the rest of the season, including POs.

What still remains, however, is that the Patriots have one of the more, if not the most, brittle starting OTs in football, and the absolute worst backup OTs.

Do not agree with NESN 53 man roster no Rufus Johnson?
Aaron Dobson cut?
DJ Foster cut?
Cannon on the roster?
Bryce Williams cut?
Belichick has never been afraid to go with youth with more ceiling then players where we know they've peaked.
See James White.
