BB needs to trade for a RB

Outside of the Jamal Charles pipe dream, the only trade candidates I've really seen mentioned are Knile Davis and Bishop Sankey.

So basically, I haven't seen any realistic trade candidates that clearly make the team better.

I agree, right now Charles is the only one worth trading for, and that's highly unlikely. Hopefully something changes during the pre season.

I wouldn't draft Easley...

You say that now, but where were you 3 years ago? Were you actually coming out against Easley? Or were you just wishy washy and non-committal?

I can say that I didn't have an opinion one way or the other. I've taken the tact of trying to understand the how and why with the knowledge that I don't know what is said during interviews, film study, etc..

You're not going to be able to trade for a top RB, but maybe someone is willing to part with their #3 or 4 rb for a depth safety and/or a mid round pick?

For the past half decade the Pats have been a pass first team that runs the ball ONLY when they can get favorable match ups that give them either a physical or numerical advantage. THAT is what this league has mandated by its rules. To that end, over the years, the Pats have developed the most complex and difficult to defend passing attack. It has worked so well because we had the ultimate good decision maker in the league. It will work well enough in these first 4 games IF Garopollo has learned the offense well enough to get through 3 options and make the right decision on who is the right guy to throw to.

A lot of his success will depend on how quickly the OL comes together. If it does, I'm confident that the offense will hold its own those first 4 games. If it doesn't, like most inexperienced QB's, JG will likely do a lot of running around and ad libbing. That will look great on occasion, but this offense isn't built to accommodate a scrambling QB, especially a very young one. So what I will be looking at this preseason at camp, at the preseason games, and during the first month of the season, is how comfortable JG is in the pocket, and how often he resists the instinct to run, rather than stay and make his reads.

Andrew Luck has been the best QB to come out in this decade. Yet over the last year when he started to run around to try and make things happen, he became "just another guy", whose mechanics and accuracy became wildly inconsistent.

Brady is at the point where he can still thrive with a mediocre OL. I have to realistically think that Garapollo will not. So while the media and most fans will be all talking about JG this next 40 days, to me, it is all going to be about the OL. BTW - The think the talent is there to have a very good one. IMHO the overall talent (1-9)might be the best we've in quite a while. The trick will be getting the best 5 ready to start the year, and outside of the T's, I have no idea who will emerge. It will make for a VERY interesting pre season. I'm looking forward going to camp after they put the pads on and see what's happening. I even bought some binoculars so I can get a better idea of what's actually going on in the far reaches of the practice area where the OL usually does its business. And the days they practice with other teams will be particularly interesting

Bottom line: I have to admit that I had my little AFoster fantasy going there for a while, but given the Pats offense, I think they have enough currently there to make this offense go....IF the OL is up to the task.

We should dangle a DB for a runningback
Logan Ryan and a mid pick for Charles?
Call the Vikings for a back I dont want teams to see how desperate we are so preferably we make a trade before Preseason starts.

Not worth it. I looked at the RB rosters across the league and there may not be a worse position in football in terms of talent. Unless they can pry Charles away from KC they should stand pat.

Brandon Bolden over Kniles Davis or Jerick Mckinnon.
I for one love to see Mckinnon with starter snaps.

Is Tyler Gaffney the Jake Bequette or RB's???Every year someone says he's the second coming.
Please show a single post where someone said Gaffney was going to be awesome? I have yet to see one, but I've seen a few where people claim others had said it.

Gaffney will be awesome, people should go pick him up in your dynasty leagues for dirt cheap.. :D.

BB said he was standout to the media just before he got injured last year, hopefully he can return to that level post injury.

We kept Jake Bequette and Shawn Crable for a while and BB said glowing things about them as well.

He isn't Michael Floyd either! ;)

Dion Lewis is going to be our #1 playmaker from the RB position. As long as he stays healthy, I'd expect him to get 15 touches a game and make big plays as usual. For the rest of the RB touches we just need filler 'between the tackle' runs. Blount can deliver that.

As other posters have noted, the real key is our OL. If our OL plays well, they can make even JAGS look good on the field. If nothing else, we can pick up some other team's cuts. BB always seems to have a good eye at salvaging talent from scraps. :)

If you'll notice, in my original post I noted his injury history. BB hasn't written him off yet, so it seems premature for posters to write him off so completely. If he remains healthy, which is certainly a big if, I think he has potential to be a good RB.

I didn't see your OP but in the one I responded to you speculated why. I stated the why. I think hes was great at Stanford but hes made of glass.

It was the post you quoted. I noted he was on IR both years in the NFL and also used the qualifier "if he can stay healthy".

He was never injured in college, and has little wear, having played only one full year. His first injury was a meniscus tear, which is far from a career-ender. I haven't been able to find out any info on his 2015 injury. He may have been stashed on IR for something relatively minor because of limited roster spots and a logjam at RB. Unless you have access to more info than what I just presented, the "made of glass" label is premature.

2015 was microfracture.

He's made of glass. 2 years straight of being IR'd

I was wondering which thread would be posted first.

We need a RB ... or ... We need a deep threat.

RB won ...

Why does everyone overlook Gaffney?
Yeah he has good measurables, but he won't make the club from the tub.

Who knows - with a little bit of luck and keeping up with the tradition, another Dion Lewis/Danny Woodhead will fall in the Patriots lap.

do you have a time machine? because we should just go back and have the Pats draft Antonio Brown over Brandon Tate in 09
