If the running game was not adequate even with Brady running the show, now that this BS suspension is confirmed James G may need some help so he doesn't have to throw a lot in his first 4 games.

I was surprised BB didn't addressed this in the draft, now it seems we're headed to take a look in other teams castoff and try to get something good out of it, I just don't think this changes the situation. Only a trade for a more proven player would change this scenario in my opinion.

It doesn't need to be a big name, just to be clear, but a guy that is healthy and can play a lot of snaps. Not sure Blount is that guy for a whole season and playoffs.

I am okay with the RBs we have and would not trade for one for the following reasons.

#1 We don't yet know how good our Guards and Center will be so any RB we get no matter how good could be wasted.

#2 What do we trade? We have few picks next year (I think only 7 and 1 per round and are unlikely to get any high comp picks) and i don't see a player that has good trade value. The best player we can afford to move might be Ryan but do we want to trade him? What can he really get us at RB? Most teams in the NFL value RB pretty high cause they lack a QB so the price will be steep. There is no one i want to trade for the price it would cost to get a RB of note in here.

#3 Who is out there? If you are trading then are you trading for a meh RB or do you want a good one? There are very few good between the tackle RBs in the NFL right now. Tell me who you think teams want to part with. How many teams have 2 good RBs so that they don't mind letting one go? I can't think of that team. Maybe Pitt but i wouldn't make that trade either way.

#4 Who do we cute. Lets say we take that decent between the tackles RB. who walks? I don't see a guy i feel like cutting. Lewis? Nope. Blount? Seems you think we need his snaps so nope. Bolden? I don't see it. Do we cut every decent 3rd down back we have and hope we can scoop one on the PS? Not a sure thing and then we lack a Lewis backup (with his injury history no thank you).

I would rather bit the bullet these 4 weeks. Run Blount 30 times a game and run Lewis 10 times a game and a few WR draws. That should be fine. If you burn out Blount get another one off the scrapheap. Sounds cold but lets be honest it is not hard to have a big body back as good as Blount.

Donald Brown is going to silence his critics ... Blount will be lucky to survive training camp cuts.
There will be RB's cut at other camps we can always grab one if needed then.

BB is smarter than you and whom is there that would be an upgrade?

I'm guessing that Dion Lewis is progressing well in his recovery, and that Belichick is hopeful that one of Foster/Brown will push Blount for playing time.

We all know that White and Bolden will fill other roles well, but running the ball does not seem to be in their respective wheelhouses. I'd have loved a cheap(er) vet signing and/or a draft pick, but once again Belichick has ignored my advice.

I would like to see more than 2 recuperating backs myself. Seems like they should have more in camp. If Donald Brown was so great, how did he play that long with our biggest rival [imo] without being noticeable at all?

Hope I'm wrong.

Not many backs the NFL are big enough difference makers. If the passing game works, the running game should be adequate. If the passing game is bad and defenses load the box, there aren't more than a handful of RBs that are going to be successful, and I don't think it's worth a king's ransom to get one of them.

Jimmy G has plenty of weapons. In that respect, it's Matt Cassell 2009 all over again.

If his teammates let him down, it will be the OL. The other offensive skill positions are fine.

I know he has been oft injured but I still like Gaffney a lot.

he's definitely on my watch list in the next weeks.
if he doesnt work then Id wish for a new addition.

Maybe the like Gaffney?

My one disappointment with the move this offseason was no upgrade at RB, I love Lewis but Donald Brown sucks, Blount is going to have to play his ass off this season.

meh........I am sure there will be some scrap heap guys available later in August

Both Blount and Lewis are going to be the featured backs in this offense. Both are coming off of season ending injuries. Blount has always been feast or famine every time he's touched the ball. He needs a full three steps to get going and is just as likely to be brought down for a loss as he is to break off a big one. With the way this OL run blocked last season, that's not exactly a good thing. Lewis is electrifying but cannot be given the workload he was given last year. He simply can't handle it. Brown sucks balls. Can't pass protect worth a damn and is a less than mediocre runner. I really wish the team had selected a back in the draft. Seattle nabbed the one that would have been perfect in this offense - Prosise. 6'1", 220 lbs. of a three down, dynamic threat who is still very much learning this position. Oh well. Now we have to hope for either health or someone who is worth a damn gets cut from another team and placed on the scrap heap.
