Just when I thought race baiting couldn't reach any higher heights.

Wow.

Also, this might be shocking to some people, but you hire based on on ability, not skin color.

FYI....

I give you the 11 members of the Disney's (ESPN's owners) Board of Directors...

Board of Directors Archives - The Walt Disney Company

11 people, 3 women, and one one African Amercian! RACISTS!!!!

That's 9%, well below the percentage of African Americans in the general population (@13%)

Any credit for Strength and Conditioning Coach Moses Cabrera from New Mexico whose parents are hispanic/latino (Dad is Victor Cabrera and Mom is Martha Chavez)? Cabrera replaced African American Harold Nash via promotion in 2016.

No. The PFT article mentions this: " Those numbers do not include strength coaches and other non-football personnel."

Also, the Patriots just hired Camren Williams as a "Scouting Assistant".

The NFL is a classic "good ole boys" club where rich white men hook up their other rich white male friends and it's hard for black men to get into those circles. That's just the reality of the situation. This is why the same terrible coaches keep getting recycled back into the league.

List of current National Football League staffs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Link)

AFCE

Patriots - 15 Coaches - 2 Minority Coaches. 13%
Bils - 22 Coaches - 6 Minority Coaches. 27%
Jets - 17 Coaches - 9 Minority Coaches. 53%
Dolphins - 20 Coaches - 5 Minority Coaches. 25%

The Jets have 19 Coaches according to their website.. And that is not including the 3 Strength and Conditioning personnel.

Also, I hadn't realized that Pepper Johnson went to the Jets from the Bills.

That's true in general, and has absolutely nothing to do with Bill or the makeup of his staff.

BB did a lot for the careers of Ozzie Newsome and Romeo Crennel. That disproves serious bias right there.

His former-NFL-player coaches have, I think, been largely black. No bias problems there.

His entry-level hires have been from groups that are traditionally white -- his own family, lacrosse players, small liberal arts universities, whatever. I wouldn't mind a bit of affirmative action to get a black face or two into that mix, but that's all anybody should ask of him in that regard.

I have a problem with the article. "Bill Belichick has the NFL’s least diverse coaching staff" is such a clickbait BS heading. It was using a single stat to take a slap at BB without, of course, mentioning any of contributions to Amer-I-Can etc... Irresponsible.

BUT. A responsible writer could and should continue to dig into why minorities are not a larger proportion of the NFL's coaching tree. Should the NFL set a hiring quota?

Unfortunately this author piggybacked an ESPN article that focussed on the NFL to take a cheap irresponsible shot at BB.

This stat also has to be considered as a snapshot in time. BB has had a staff which consisted of anywhere from 13-39% minorities.

Percentage of Minorities on Patriots coaching staff:

2016 - 13%
2015 - 23%
2014 -23%
2013 - 28%
2012 - 28%
2011 - 28%
2010 -39%
2009 - 29%
2008 - 21%
2007 - 14%
2006 - 14%
2005 - 14%
2004 - 21%
============= Rooney Rule (Added for reference. Understand it was a HC focused rule.)
2003 - 29%
2002 - 23%
2001 - 29%
2000- 27%

Had to Edit original percentages from 2008-2015 because when I originally googled Brian Flores a white or hispanic guy showed up in the results. Thanks Google.

Edited. Thanks.

The fact his staff has a greater proportion of black coaches than the proportion of blacks that make up the population (per an earlier post) kind of makes the whole thing a non story.

It's a little misleading though, to compare it to the general population, when nearly 70% of NFL players are African-American. The disparity gets even worse when you compare that to the diversity rate for execs and owners.

****! Goodell is going to take two first round picks at the behest if the NAACP and Troy Vincent. Brady might be suspended for four more now too. F*ck!:eek:o_O
at least now i know how many draft picks it going to cost us

Not sure I understand. Are you saying you're against diversity or?
Not going to speak for him, but I *THINK* he's saying he's against diversity just for the sake of diversity. May be wrong. Either way, I'm sure he'll be around soon to clear it up.

Does BB have any ex-NL players on his coaching staff? If he's picking few coaches that were ex-NFL players, why even bring that stat up?

I find that point a little mis-leading as most HC spend a lifetime coaching while most players spend a lifetime playing.

I find it insulting that you think BB needs to take affirmative action. Especially since he just hired Camren Williams as a Scouting Assistant. Williams is black.

Both Of Bill Belichick’s Sons Will Work On Patriots’ Staff This Season

Look at what the last census said about the population breakdown:
Blacks - 13.3%
Hispanic/Latino - 17.6%

Also, as someone else mentioned, they don't count the Strength and Conditioning Coach where Moses Cabrera is now Lead.

Belichick has given plenty of opportunities to people. Romeo Crennel. Pepper Johnson. Patrick Graham. The former DB whom they hired as an Asst. DB coach only to relieve him half way through the season because he messed up McCourty and Butler so bad.

Then you have the likes of Troy Brown working with the receivers in an unofficial capacity. And there is a chance they will do the same with Mayo down the line.

The color of your skin shouldn't matter in this day and age.. The fact that we still have laws and mandates forcing such things is as harmful as they are helpful..

Ray Ventrone is the only former player on the staff that I know of.

There have actually been very few NFL Players who have made the change to coaching,. Ed Reed joining the Bills. Ray Ventrone joining the Pats. Vrabel with the Texans. Those are some of the more recent.

You already had the likes of Jeff Fisher, Tony Dungy, Mike Mularkey, **** Jauron, Mike Ditka, Dan Reeves, Mike Singeltary, Mike Caldwell. Tom Landry. Don Shula. It could be that the uptick in CTE over the past 3 decades have limited players abilities to teach and be effective at coaching after their playing careers are done. But that is pure speculation on my part.
