We need gun control (numerous places), axe control, ( Germany), bomb control, (Boston Marathon), truck control, (Nice France),747 control, ( NYC), meat cleaver control (France), according to our erstwhile leaders.

I concur! Disband the secret service and their guns. We don't need walls, tear down the walls around the White house and Chappaqua. Let Michelle, Chelsea and the rest, take the same chances as 330 other Americans.

What the ****, seems like every week there's a new attack. If they want to create some mess in the olympic games nothing will stop them, it's happening in the 1st world, imagine in Hell de Janeiro where cops are not getting paid because the state is broke.

You might as well make an "OFFICIAL: Thoughts and Prayers Thread", and just update it whenever there is another shooting at this rate. The hell is happening with the world today? World War 3 fast approaches, my friends.

Awful. I guess in some parts of the world, it already feels like world war 3. Syria, Palestine etc. Can't imagine what they have to go through.

I think it's already started.

Their lives are hell.

It's sad that a "thoughts and prayers" thread can't go more than 2 posts before someone injects politics.

But they start their own wars all the time.

That's a lot different than attacking a country that is not at war. Especially if they had the grace to allow them to immigrate there.

I really wish people that want to inject that crap would go down to the political forum and spew it down there.

The shooter hacked a Facebook account and urged people to go to the mall for a free giveaway to attract more people to the site. May he burn in the hottest corner of Hell.

This. Sadly, Unfortunately is so true.

I've attached a picture of Kabul 1972, Palestine 1930 and Syria before the wars. Beautiful places. The people didn't want this. Greed and corruption and media bias is what happened to them.

What are your thoughts about Turkey? I've never been there, but I've heard wonderful things about Instanbul. A poster down in the PoFo has compared it to Italy and said it was very tourist-friendly before all hell broke loose.

Damn...I was really hoping this was an old thread :(.

I've never been to Turkey personally but have many close friends who are living there and in America. I see a lot of the beauty on their Facebook pages. Their beautiful families and landscapes. Some of them are on vacation there now and were caught in the middle of the coup. Thankfully, they are safe and they were really proud of being involved in stopping the coup attempt.

They tell me of how beautiful Turkey is, especially away from the city. They have amazing beaches and ski resorts. Their history is recounted by thousands of years (not hundreds). Their civilization is older than all of Europe. It is definitely on my bucket list.

It is hard for me to have an overall sample of Turkey because most of my friends are very educated, I.e. Masters and PH.D. Level. They are scientists, economists, writers , professors. But they also strive for religious enlightenment. To them (and me), science and religion are one and not mutually exclusive.

[Reading] If one is interested in logical religion, read the teachings of Said Nursi (Risale-Nur). It has been translated into English by various academics. Nursi was labeled enemy of the state by the ottoman. He taught for free and was imprisoned a long time. [/reading]

But I've been to Italy. Italy is a newer turkey if that makes sense, although Italy has also been around for a long time.

One thing that the western world is deceived by the media is that they think that "all-hell has broken loose" in Turkey. It's very far from the truth. The citizens simply do not allow it. At least that's what my friends tell me. They are tight knit. Yes, there is a sense of fundamentalist movement creeping in but the human rights activists are quite vocal in Turkey and it doesn't get reported in the west.

Edit: I want to point out that Turkey is the opposite of Saudi Arabia where Wahabbism has taken over logical reasoning. The state sponsored academics are spreading a militaristic and extreme version of Islam. Even though Mecca and Medina are in Saudi, the government is not recognized as true authorities of Islam.

They've warred between tribes & countries throughout history in the ME.

ISIS and al Qaeda weren't spurned by revenge, it was out of religious doctrine.

sharia law is also not related to greed.

Too many of them actually believe their Qoran literally. That's what needs to end
