ESPN: Bill Belichick has the NFL’s least diverse coaching staff

We are living in a society that you are better off belonging to a certain group, whether is a race, a gender or sexual orientation. I've seen companies and groups add people because the way they looked and were, rather than they were more qualified.

That being said, overall prejudice is still around. But BB doesnt strike me as racist, homophobic, etc, thus I'm happy he keeps hiring on merits, rather to appease certain stupid masses

Shouldn't that say Kraft has the least diverse staff?

I agree.

Everyone on BB's staff has 206 bones, blood, organs, a brain, love football, are intelligent, committed to winning, being the best and work hard.

Hes not into diversity whatsoever.

Somehow I feel like you're referring to "reverse racism" when in fact just having the last name Washington (most common black surname in the US) can get you automatically denied for loans and interviews.

As for the topic at hand: I agree with the article. It's hard to argue with the results, and the more worrying thing is the nepotism. That's the part that has always rubbed me the wrong way.

Romeo and Pepper say hi. So nope.

Ivan Fears & Brian Flores

Don't the Patriots also have one of the smallest coaching staffs in the league? By my count, it's 15 people, besides Belichick. I took a look at the Rams, Jets and Colts and they were 21, 21 and 19, respectively. The Bills are at 27. Maybe the Patriots could hire people in roles like Assistant Strength coach, Senior Offensive Assistant, and Assistant Defensive Backs coach, but then they'd be criticized for making those moves only to avoid criticism.

"But never since the times of slavery has there been a time when there weren't white families reaching out. During the slave period, there were free houses for slaves owned by whites. The NAACP was created by a white woman. Branch Rickey was as important as Jackie Robinson. Throughout our program you'll find people in different races doing all they can do. There are special people who fight for the right thing. Bill Belichick is one of them"

- Jim Brown

Dear ESPN

2008 New York Times article

If Bill Belichick can be judged by the company he keeps, then his relationships with Jim Brown, the legendary football player, and Bill Russell, the epitome of winning, provide an intriguing insight into a man few outsiders know.

The tie that binds them is an initiative that Brown began two decades ago when he founded his Amer-I-can Foundation, which works with gangs and youth throughout the United States to end violence by boosting self esteem, providing jobs and promoting self-worth and personal responsibility.

….

“He has been face to face with my gangsters in L.A. and in Cleveland,” Brown said. “Belichick is the only person that you would know who has been in my home with these guys. He has been in the hotel room in Cleveland with them; not only that, he’s been to the graduation; not only that, he got us our first contract in Rhode Island. And not only that, when he fined his players one year, he gave all the fine money to the foundation.”

I'm not bothered by it at all. F' the haters. Best man up. Of all the people I can think of, I suspect BB would hire the most qualified and capable person for a position of need without any any influence except job skill. I guess that's the PC definition of being a racist. For other positions, he has demonstrated he is influenced by familiarity and 'family'. I guess that's also racist if you are white.

Interesting point. Wonder if the rankings would be different by proportion.

Jared: There's a distinct over-representation of men in this company. Look around. I think it would behoove us to prioritize hiring a woman.

Gilfoyle: I disagree, OJ. We should hire the best person for the job, period.

Dinesh: And Carla is one of the best.

Jared: Right, let me rephrase: I think having a woman in the company is important but hiring someone only because they're a woman is bad. I would never compromise Pied Piper.

Richard: Okay, just to be clear, our top priority is to hire the most qualified person available, right?

Jared: Of course.

Dinesh: But would be better if that someone was a woman even though the "woman" part of that statement is irrelevant?

Jared: Exactly. It's like we're the Beatles and now we just need Yoko.

Dinesh: That's the worst example you could have used.
