Aaron Rodgers overrated?

Tannehill? What? The guy hasn't even made the playoffs... Tannehill? What? Huh? How?

Among all active quarterbacks, Ryan Tannehill is in the top 10 in completion percentage, completions/game, interception percentage, and passing yards/game. Those four statistics tell you that he is accurate, takes care of the ball, and he moves the chains.

Ryan Tannehill has a better completion percentage 61.9% over his first four years than Andrew Luck - 58.1%. Tannehill's completion percentage in his first four years is 2nd highest in NFL history except for Carson Palmer's 64.1%.

Tannehill has played in a chaotic environment and still posted two back-to-back 4000+ yard seasons in 2014 and 2015. Ryan Tannehill has thrown for more yards 15,460 than Andrew Luck's 14,838 in their first four years.

This despite leading the league being sacked over the past four years and and leading the league in 2013 and 2015 in yards lost due to sacks. Put a line in front of him that could fog a mirror, and maybe have the same system for a couple of years in a row, and Tannehill's numbers would be top 5.

I'm surprised at the lack of attention that goes to Russell Wilson whenever these QB discussions come up.

46-18 regular season record, 7-3 playoffs
64.7% complete with 106 TDs and 34 INTs in regular season
60.5% with 16 TDs and 9 INTs in the playoffs.
13,974 yards regular, 2,328 playoffs
I SB win and 1 NFC title in 4 years with no one and dones.

This is a very interesting year when it comes to QB rankings across the league. The top two are going to be solidified. After that, it becomes interesting. Just to toss out a couple of examples of what I'm referring to...

1. Does Newton mature and continue to grow?

2. Does Russell Wilson continue the improvement we saw in the second half of the 2015 season where he actually became a competent quarterback from the pocket?

3. How much improvement will we see out of the big second year guys - Winston and Mariota?

4. Will Bortles lower his interception total (which led the league in 2015).

5. Will Romo stay healthy and regain some of the polish that he didn't have before he went out in 2015 (Romo was on pace to blow away Bortles' INT total)?

Nobody is going to call some nutty whackjob an elite QB. I liked the kid until he started spouting his "God made me do this" nonsense...

Tannenhill is not in the top 20. He'll be a backup by the end of the next year
If you saw my list of QB's I thought were better than Tanny earlier in this thread, I counted up about 20-21 that I would take over him right now.

I am too, but I think it's mainly because a) they had the original Beast Mode for so long on an offense that, until a year or two ago, was considered a run-first offense and b) they had a great defense that also sort of took center stage. His career arc seems to be taking a Big Ben-like curve, though he won his first SB a bit earlier. But I do believe Rus. Wilson is legit.

Among active QBs at the start of 2016 training camp my top six are:

Cam Newton
Tom Brady
Russell Wilson
Ben Roethlisberger
Aaron Rodgers
Ryan Tannehill

This is not a career ranking - just what they can do for their team this year. Brady is the GOAT, no question.

Aaron Rodgers is 19th among active QBs in bringing his team back from a deficit in the 4th quarter to win a game. 19th: NFL Active Fourth Quarter Comebacks Leaders (since 1960) | Pro-Football-Reference.com Rodgers is tied with Mark Sanchez for comeback wins.

Wilson and Roethlisberger have epic comebacks. Brady is the GOAT at 37 in his career.

Newton is #1 for his throwing, his running and the fact that he took his team to the Super Bowl. He now has playoff experience and a very tough lesson in humility that can serve him well. I expect him to be less of a prima donna douche this year and show maturity after his humiliation in the Super Bowl.

The guy that intrigues me most of all is Ryan Tannehill. I looked at his stats for the first four years in a chaotic, disfunctional environment, and am very impressed. Ryan Tannehill NFL Football Statistics | Pro-Football-Reference.com

At 27, I think he's shown more poise and understanding of the game than guys like Rivers or Matty Ryan. If the Patriots could trade for Tannehill to succeed Brady, I think he'd flourish under Belichick.

As much as I'm tempted to, I just won't bite on this one. You are insane if you really believe it.

Wilson was spectacular last year. His running game was not up to par, had issues with getting Graham going and he put up a kick-ass year. Also thought the comback effort in MN in sub-zero weather and the almost comeback CAR was impressive. With that said both 1st 1/2s he sucked. Hes Top 5 IMO.

That sub-zero Vikings-Seahawks game was one of my favourite games of the season. What a shame they're building an indoor stadium out in Minnesota.

Honestly, threads like these are for provincial yahoos. Rogers is obviously a terrific quarterback, and it's kind of silly to spend much time debating otherwise.

Absolutely agree. Rus is legit. He is one reason I usually tune into SEA games if NE is not playing at the time. He reads defenses well, usually finds the open guy, throws a beautiful and high-arching deep pass (reminiscent of Carson Palmer) and he is always a danger to make the play because he extends so many plays. Defenders dive at air when trying to corral him. He's a top-5 QB in the league, no doubt.

If he can throw from inside the pocket successfully as he did in the second half of 2015, Wilson is the real deal. It used to be that was his weakness. Defenses schemed to keep him inside the pocket because he would struggle. That went right out the window last season later in the year.

If only that Brady guy could throw the deep ball. Just think how good he would have been :p

Were do you rate Ben?

Big Ben is 1 SB victory away from completely changing his legacy.. and god forbid....Eli Manning *vomit* as well... if either of them get 3 rings, they'll start to be discussed as all time greats

I would go with russell wilson over rodgers

Hmmmmm.

In a winner take all game I think I'd go with Wilson but I'd need to flip a coin 19 times.

As a QB I put Ben a couple of notches above Eli. Hes just a better QB.

However if Eli does win 3 SBs not totally sure where his placement is in SB winning QBs. I figure hes in the Bradshaw/Aikman bucket as opposed to the Brady/Montana/Elway one.

This is something I randomly thought about.

He is 7-6 in the playoffs

Many QBs have better records in the playoffs Wilson is 7-3
Seattle no way its possible return in 2014NFC game and Rodgers is 8-6
and Wilson with additon 2015 lucky game against vikings and he is 5-4

Which I don't think I'd mind for Big Ben, but if they start talking about Eli that way, then I think I really will give up football.

I think with another two good years Eli is a 1st ballot HoFer (not that I agree with it) as he'll be over 50k yds, 350 Tds and 2 SBs.

Playing for the Giants and being a Manning also will help his cause.
