Sally Jenkins Eviscerates Goodell in Washington Post

This is all well and good and she's been writing these throughout, but it is what it is, and the players got what they signed up for, I'm afraid. They wanted a bigger piece of the pie and, knowingly or unknowingly, gave up a lot to get it. Brady's legacy will be fine, IMHO, especially if he gets another ring or two. People who hate him and think he did it would still believe that even if the NFL came out today and admitted it was all a sham. The F do I care anymore?

F the NFL. I watch the Patriots, not the NFL. I expect a long lock out when the current CBA expires and, as much as I'd miss football, I would be in full support of one. The gross misuse of power here is ridiculous. Enjoy that you won the battle, but you'll have to face Brady when you're handing him another trophy, scumbag.

I dunna know...Montville is pretty good.
Yes, and Willie McD was good also, although I think he was sort of a jerkoff as a person. Of course, being friendly with Whitey Bulger will automatically place you in that category...

He still has enough owners in his pocket because he gave them the petty revenge they wanted. I don't see him losing his job of 50M (or so) paycheck and he's deluded enough to feel the public still loves him. I'm sure he buys his own BS.

The part about the players standing firm and wanting nothing to do with him at the next CBA is cute. If they get him fired I can only imagine what else it will cost them in the negotiations. They would have to give into the 18 game schedule, 5% of revenue sharing and who knows what else to get that done.

Yep. I kinda put Montville in a different category than Willie as he is a columnist and author of a number of books. From a writing standpoint, while I am certainly not an expert critic, I put Montville a couple levels above Shank. His books just had more depth than his.

With that said, if you wanted a story and juice no one was better than Willie.

I think the story is that when Whitey got out of prison (I think the stretch in Atlanta) Willie got him a job at the Globe in the copy room. Whitey lasted 2 weeks.

What they should do is refuse to even sit at the bargaining table while Goodell is commissioner. Once Goodell was removed, they could negotiate without having lost any leverage.

You know what would be hilarious and wicked awesome at the same damn time? If Brady could somehow manage to win league MVP even after missing 25 percent of the season, it would be a giant sized FU to the league, Goodell and the haters. I haven't cared about it much since Brady won it unanimously in 2010 and became the only player in league history to win it that fashion (Super Bowls are all I care about). But if there's a year I'd like to see TB12 do it again, it's this one. Why not go for the clean sweep? Division title, MVP, conference title, and top it off with a Super Bowl ring and MVP. Yeah, tall order but if there was ever a player capable, TB12 is as good a bet as any...even at 39.

Just read CHB's response to me: "Funny. She lost. Won't give it up. Like Japanese warriors in Phillipines after WW2 was over." I just wrote back, "That's an interesting analogy. I offer that because I've often used it to describe old football fans in this area who continue to insist that 'NE is Giant country.' And yes, Sally lost - but it doesn't mean she's not correct."
Have to disagree with you saying "Sally lost." You don't lose when you speak the truth and are on the right side.

Shaughnessey's just pathetic. He's always believed that taking positions against the Boston fan makes him somehow noble, or tough, or something. He's just pointlessly contrarian and smallminded. Awful person.

For "Mr. Robot" fans...substitute the villain Evil Corp with the NFL and the show would seamlessly move forward

I had no clue that show had such good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It's sitting at, IIRC, a 92%. I'll have to get into it.

ok i give up. who the hell is chb? cant be borges, first name is ron.

Thanks Sally for continuing to fight the good fight. My only change to your column would have been "His long-term legacy is as the worst commissioner in the history of all of the professional sports leagues". Second isn't even close.

While I love Sally Jenkins and wanna marry her, I actually disagree with this tiny excerpt from her:

IMO Brady lost in the court of public opinion. Pretty much 99% of non-pats fans think he's a cheater.

Tough call. I think with anyone that has looked into it dispassionately, and is moderately intelligent, she is right. The rest (70-90% of the populace, unfortunately) she is wrong. E.g., even Mr Robot, when protagonist was going on a rant about how dishonest people get ahead, it showed a quick montage, and one of the pictures in the montage was of Brady. Pretty much hate that show now just because of that. It's part of popular culture that Brady is a cheater, it didn't even need explanation, it was just part of a montage.

Don't even get me started on South Park, bunch of #!@$@# @#$#$ dbags donkey elway sucking sycophants, definitely aren't in the dispassionate crowd.

He would have the makings of a defamation suit. He would likely lose, but I wouldn't be suprised if it made it to court. No way he does it though.

He wears it as a badge of honor that so many of the local athletes don't like him. All it really means is that he's just an *******.

Shaughnessy. Curly haired boyfriend, a name given to him by Carl Everett when he was with the Sox
Lol. Thanks. I moved from Boston to nc in 1991- I used to love the globe sports with one exception-chb. I NEVER read him when I lived in Boston and haven't read him since. In a lot of ways he's worse than Borges.

Mike Reiss seems to be enjoying the latest bash Roger Articles: :D

The headline of the piece is:

Why Roger Goodell, not Tom Brady, is Deflategate’s real loser

A choice quote:

Brady will serve an arbitrarily issued four-game suspension to open the season because that’s what is best for his team: It’s smarter to go to training camp next week without any lingering uncertainty or risk of missing crucial late-season games. No doubt it’s easier for Brady to accept because by now he knows that in practical terms and the court of public opinion, he won. Zero evidence showed he ordered anyone to deflate footballs in the 2015 AFC Championship game, and a legion of scientists proved what anyone with a car already knew — that cold weather causes air pressure to drop in footballs the same as it does in your tires. A seventh grader’s schoolboy experiment made fools of Goodell and his underlings in the league office.

A must-read:

Why Roger Goodell, not Tom Brady, is Deflategate’s real loser

Goodell still has a job making an 8 figure annual salary for screwing up a sport I used to really enjoy watching. Tom Brady is sitting out a 1/4 of the season. The NFL has officially denigrated into nothing more than an outlet for nastiness and stupidity.

To add insult to injury, Goodell resides in the most batsh*t crazy state in New England without any negative consequences.

I fail to see how Goodell has "lost" in any way, shape, or form.
