NFL considering narrowing the uprights

So they can add chips to the balls to try to determine if the should mess with the game, but not to accurately figure out if the ball crossed the goal line...
If they want to do that, they'd have the change the rules for scoring TD's. Under the current rule, you would need enough chips to account for the entire surface of the ball, one small chip wouldn't work for an oblong ball. It wouldn't even work if you put 2 chips, one at each "point" of the ball because the middle of the ball could break the plane.

I hate constant changes, but this is actually a good move IMO. Great field goal kickers will benefit, while teams will need more touchdowns and less "I keek a touchdown."

Did I read that right? How freaking unfair is that to just do it on Thursday night games!

I don't think using chipped footballs on Thursday night games but not others is going to affect anything.

If we are going to start adding chips, a few sensors and GPS coordinates backed up with satellite imagery we might as well make it interesting.

I don't get the hate for the kicking game. Was fine the way it was with the xp at the 1.

I have no problem with that

At a recent monthly meeting of the NFL's: Solutions to Slow the Patriots Down Committee.

Problem: The Patriots win too many Super Bowls

Response: Field goals have been a big key to their success.

Solution: We must make field goals harder.

Next months agenda:
Make coaches less comfortable on the sideline ... discussion regarding banning the cutting of hoodie sleeves.

I don't hate it, it just doesn't involve the whole team and isn't as exciting or important as scoring touchdowns. In fact, it has become rather routine.

Besides, it wouldn't eliminate the kicking game, it would just make it more important to have a skilled kicker, which we do.

So the receivers are making too many receptions, by this rationale they should make the ball smaller as well so it can increase the difficulty?
Need to make the balls bigger. Smaller footballs are easier to throw and catch.

What part of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it?" Do these bumbling morons not understand? I understand at least what they're trying to get at with the player safety rules, but seriously....
...

I guess it depends on how we define "broke."

I honestly don't know the answer to this question, but isn't it possible that it's "broke" that, except when a team needs a TD with time running out in the fourth quarter, the game has become a "three down game" once a team is inside the 35 if it has a very good K like Gostkowski? And, from inside the 30 if a team has even an average K?

Is that how the game was meant to be played?

Or have the proliferation of Domes and the emergence of "Long Snapper and Holder" as effectively "Skill Positions" taken the game away from its roots? "Soccer Style" K's who can kick the ball accurately with a high degree of success from 50+ yards-in are relatively recent phenomena.

As I said, I don't know, but I think it's worth discussing.
