I like that people understimating Jimmy G

This year is a little different. They may play Brady a little more in the PS since he won't be able to be in touch with coaches during weeks 1-4. That said, maybe Brady 20-25%, JG 50-60%, Brissett 20-25%.

I think we see less of Jimmy G come preseason some may argue with me about this but I think the least amount of tape AZ has on the offense and Jimmys strengths and weaknesses is BBs best weapon.
He would much rather have Jimmy limit those reps and save them for un taped practices then have tape the whole league can see.
I expect a very vanilla offense all preseason and people thinking Jimmy will sink only week one to see him put up a good game against the Cardinals I think his quick release will be the Cardinals achilles heal their linebackers against our short to mid passing game I like our chances on O.
Especially if Blount or Say Arin Foster gets this run game going.

I would hope that BB would care more about his team's preparation than preseason film

Umm. Let's see here. No Edelman possibly to start the season. Massive o-line questions. Brand new offensive personnel at other key positions. A lack of a running game that most here didn't give a s*it about for years will rear its ugly head. All of these would be mitigated, as they always have been by TB.

You may want to gloss over all of this. I mean with some injury/personnel,issue, they smoked Buffalo at home last year, correct? How about Philly? They beat the Jets both times, right? And by wide margins?

That's the room for error in the modern NFL. You remove a chess piece like Brady and it's gets that much tougher. I pray and expect Jimmy G to do good and have success. I don't however ignore the possibility that it won't be enough. That's what the NFL is banking on.

A 2001 offensive approach with this personnel grouping should limit mistakes - and overall the talent level is much higher. The defense will be the key - can they get close to 04/05 status?

Instead of a "He's gonna light it up 4 and 0" or "They're going 0 and 4 and go into a death spiral" pissin' contest, how about you sharp football minds tell us what he does well, what he does different from Brady.

Not trying to be smart, seriously don't get to see much preseason.

First off, he obviously is more moble than Brady (who isn't?).
I get the impression he is a very good runner. Will they have designed run plays? Does he roll out?

My other though is he throws a good intermediate to long ball. Is that true? I recall in preseason he nailed some deep routs.

Supposed to have a quick release. Not as quick as Brady?

To be frank, there will be some growing pains- he'll lead receivers, get fooled by coverages, fail to account for the extra rusher, etc. etc. He also doesn't have Brady's mastery of the offense so we won't be able to dive in the playbook as deep, or throw out the gameplan and adapt/improvise on the fly.

I have no idea how he will do, but we know that BB is very good at positioning players to succeed by playing to their strengths; the rest is up to them. We'll for sure tweak the playbook to adapt to Jimmy's strengths, run a few plays for him that we've never seen before.

He did have a deep ball connection with Brian Tyms who unfortunately is no longer here.

Disagree, I think Belichick's focus will be on getting Garrapolo ready not on worrying about tape. Like they did with Brady they have been figuring out the routes and plays Garrapolo is best at and are building game plans around those plays and let it grow as he gets more comfortable, they aren't going to send him out there to try and be Brady and use the whole playbook. I expect there will be situations he will struggle at and that there are a good number of plays he's become good at, they will try to keep him in as many of those situations as possible. He's got the weapons and a big factor will be the health of Dion Lewis, if Lewis and the two TE offense are up and running they should be very tough to stop even with Garrapolo at QB.

The Patriots have lost Brady for a month but they are loaded offensively and they have the GOAT coach with plenty of time to prepare for this, whereas had Brady gotten hurt they would have to do this on the fly.

I don't think Jimmy G will be a liability turning the ball over he might turn it over once or twice in AZ but it won't be from holding the ball down it will be a tight throw where a AZ back is too talented not to make a tough bang bang play.
I fully trust he will be put in position to make high percentage throws and rely on alot of yac.
Will hit one or two long plays when the AZ defense comes at Jimmy but will be caught off guard with his cool head and quick release.

I think this is key. I expect Arizona to play pretty tight on our receivers, to try and take away his first read. Basically to try and take away the short stuff. We will have to be willing to take the shackles off and try and hit some long plays. He can also use his feet to extend plays - and Arizona will have almost no film on that involving the Pats offense. This first game is not make or break, but if we win it - there will be a collective "OH, ****!" around the league. It is a huge opportunity.

Arizona was one of the 3 worst teams in nfl last year in defending 2tes. They also saw among the fewest te sets , which is kinda strange- you'd think people would try to attack weaknesses. Maybe just shows how few teams have 2 decent tes. Anyway, I expect bb/jmcd/jg to exploit this. Cardinals will be getting graduate-level schooling with gronk and Bennett. Will also be curious how much they blitz. Usually a lot, but Pats destroy blitzes( of course with tb). But Pats still have a ton of wrs, rbs and tes who get open fast- even if je is out-dola lewis gronk hogan etc-jg will have lotta options. My guess is zona would've blitzed less than usual vs. Brady- but will blitz jg- hoping to force mistakes- until he burns them too much. Which he will.

It'll be interesting to see. Jimmy's got the quick release and the high football IQ. He's been in the system. I think we'll be fine.

And no one can discount his hair. You have to admit he's got great hair.

For those disagreeing BB doesnt want much Film showing Jimmy running a pro offense.
I remember the year we traded for Randy Moss and he destroyed it in the preseason and everyone was put on alert before the regular season.
Oh wait.

Thinking weeks 1-4 you are going to see our opponents playing the run forcing JG to win it with his arm. Not sure he can do that. I won't be shocked if we are 2-2 or worse
