Brady accepting suspension:(

My guess is that Brady means he's "no longer proceeding with the legal process" to overturn the suspension, which, really, is the only part that would really matter to him (the $230K he could recover is pocket lint). So even if the suit goes on in his name, I imagine he's mentally checked out of it (though of course would be happy if he ultimately won).
That's all well and good and might, in the end, have the benefit of "being the Truth," but it's not what Brady said.

IANAL, but, since the Patriots were not party to the suit, the only "damages" at stake would be Brady's loss of playing time in four games and the $200k+/-. If Brady is no longer Party to the suit and since the only "damages" were related to his suspension, how can the suit proceed? He'll have served the suspension and he wouldn't be claiming that he wants his two hundred grand back, if he isn't party to the suit.

If I'm the NFL, since Brady would have served his suspension and my right to impose that suspension has therefore, de facto, been upheld, I'd file a one page Brief saying that we no longer have a stake in this matter and regard it as a waste of the time of the Court to pursue this matter (of course, they'll need ten pages to say that, but that's how it would boil down).

In other words, I don't get it. But I'm not sure that matters.

This is a good motto.

I disagree. If Olson told Brady that there's no reason not to continue and every reason to continue. Fight to the bitter end.

I think Olson told Brady something like "There's an X% chance that fighting the suspension will result in being suspended in December or January." I think that's why Brady decided to not ask for a stay.
One man's "there's an x% chance..." is another man's "your chances are between slim and none."

I totally agree with you. Which is why I think that regardless of what Brady said in his FB post, Brady's name will stay on it and Olson & Co will be asking for the $235,000 back.

It's actually a nice way to thread the needle. Brady gives the team certainty about when the suspension will be but he still keeps fighting for the union and his fellow players.

But we'll know for sure in 88 days!

Bingo. It will be the "I know the evidence is really sketchy, but you didn't take it all the way...so...."

unfortunately..

btw kudos to all of the posters on this site who read all of the documents/providing everyone on here with info. at the end, it was a gigantic waste of time.:)

It's not the NFLPA's resolve that's in question. Are the players willing to strike over this? Last time they went on strike, they folded. NFL players have the worst contract in major league sports and that's on the players.
To be fair, they also have average career lengths of something on the order of 3 years, so they don't have a lot of time to make their money. A strike costs time.

I believe he did this in the best interests of the team so they could make specific plans.

Yup. Showing dignity and grace as opposed to Goodell's avarice and vindictiveness.

I have to respectfully disagree. TB had 2 options. Cave, which he did or go nuclear, which was the only last real option. Guess he took option A. I feel totally and utterly let down. You are also wrong that Goodell will get the worst of it. Brady has, and Brady will in the end take the brunt of it.

Now, we all get to hear he's a cheater and a cheater he will known to be. By giving in, he proves he's not innocent because he's partly guilty. At least that's the argument that will be put forth.

I really thought the suspension would never really stick and turn the NFL into the WWE. Instead this is what we have.

You're going to hear that regardless of what happened. The bigger question is why are you giving so much weight to what jealous fans of other teams have to say? What Brady did is the right call. Take the suspension, get it out of the way, come back guns blazing. The distraction is no more and the team can go through a normal TC.

I still would be willing to kick in some bucks for a group to hire a helicopter and drop a few tons of steaming cow manure onto the front of Goodell's house in Maine.

Brady fought the good fight. The cards are stacked against him now. At best, he can delay his suspension until next season at this point.

I support his decision. This is a sad day for the NFL even if people in the NFL League Office are cheering.

Now, what would be intensely frustrating is if NE misses the playoffs (or HFA or a bye and loses) by one game and then Brady ends up winning the case in the end.

very disappointed at this. Now it looks like he is guilty

Guys, there will be no strike. There will be no defamation suit. It's over. The team will benefit from Garroppalo getting time with the first unit. The team will win, alot. Brady will come back week 5 breathing fire. When he is up for the Hall of Fame, there will be former players/talking heads sitting around laughing at the idea that his legacy is tarnished by deflategate. I'm still much more upset about the 1st round pick, which we were never going to get back anyway.

I wish Brady had done this ever since Kraft opened his BIG mouth...best course of action I am sure his Lawyer$'s are pissed. Luckily he had some $$$ to burn a less established player would have caved long time ago.

One very small silver lining in this: he won't be as banged up and worn down as everyone else come playoffs.

While it's outrageous that Brady even has to make this decision, I think he's made the right one to cut his losses and move on. I hope the NFL thinks long and hard about getting rid of Roger Goodell. I am a huge Pats supporter as most people know, but I have lost any love and respect for the NFL as a whole and in some respects, for Robert Kraft as an owner, who chose to support the money-making NFL over his own player. I am going out of my way not to spend any money on NFL merchandise or products and will not be watching any games that Tom Brady is not the QB of because of a suspension. I hope other Pats fans will join me in my boycott of the NFL.
